Manowar's new studio album, "The Lord Of Steel" (reviewed here), will be released into worldwide retail on September 28th, 2012 following its previous digital release and limited-edition pre-release as the "Hammer Edition" in collaboration with Metal Hammer.
The retail edition of The Lord Of Steel will feature different mixes and mastering, new art by fantasy artist Ken Kelly, and other surprises. The album will be available as CD, limited-edition vinyl and digital album.
"Manowar has always dared to do things differently. You have to look at these two versions like a movie that comes out in alternate versions; a Director's Cut or alternate endings or stories even told from different perspectives," explained bassist Joey DeMaio. "For those of you who enjoyed the first taste of The Lord Of Steel, meaning the Metal Hammer version, I can tell you that the forthcoming Lord Of Steel release on Magic Circle Entertainment will be even more unique and yes, more brutal," he continued. Manowar's new studio album, "The Lord Of Steel," will first be released worldwide on June 16th, 2012 exclusively on iTunes and on the band’s own online store, The Kingdom Of Steel.
On the same date, Metal Hammer UK will release a special ‘Steel Edition’ of Metal Hammer #233, including the CD and a digital copy of the album. The following press release was also issued:
"The Lord Of Steel is blazing with pure power, untamed energy, and a sound as raw and wild as a force of nature. Track titles like Annihilation and Hail, Kill And Die! set the tone for a record that is packed with surprises.
"In contrast to the 2007 release Gods Of War, this new album is not a concept album, yet each song tells a different story, retaining the Manowar vision of righteousness, honor and everything Manowar fans have come to know and love."
Manowar fans should expect to have “their heads completely blown off” said Manowar bassist Joey DeMaio in a recent interview, and explained that “…this album is all about brutality and raw power!” More...
Manowar and After Dark Films announced today that a track from the new, forthcoming Manowar album will be the theme song for the After Dark Action franchise film, "El Gringo," an action Western starring Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2, The Bourne Ultimatum), Christian Slater and Yvette Yates (Without Men).
After Dark Action will showcase "El Gringo" and four other original, adrenaline-pumping films theatrically as a commercial film festival in US markets nationwide and on Video On Demand on May 11th. The following press release was also issued:
"Directed by Eduardo Rodriguez (Stash House) and written by Jonathan W. Stokes, 'El Gringo' is about The Man who crosses into Mexico with a satchel of $2,000,000 cash, a bloody past and a plan to live out his remaining days on a beach. Instead, he gets stuck waiting for a bus in El Fronteras, a sleepy desert town that’s so uninviting that – forget about the ocean – he can hardly find a glass of water. Then, word of his money spreads to the underworld. Under sudden attack from corrupt cops, gangsters, and desperados, The Man must push back his retirement plans, lock and load and save sleepy El Fronteras through a dizzying display of spectacular gunfights."
View the trailer of the upcoming action-packed "El Gringo" featuring a segment from the new Manowar song below. "El Gringo" marks the first time Manowar has written a song specifically for a movie. New York true metal band Manowar posted a question and answer interview responding to frequently asked fan questions relating the long awaited follow up to the 2007 release "Gods Of War." It appears the yet untitled album will premiere on June 21, 2012 at the Gods of Metal festival in Italy.
The posting reads as follows:
With MANOWAR non-stop in the studio working on the new record it is not easy to get a hold of them these days. The band took some time during a brief recording break to answer some frequently asked fan questions.
Q: How are MANOWAR doing?
Donnie: We’re doing great! We are having a blast in the studio, I am really happy with my drum sound and with these new songs I can really stretch out and burn.
Joey: Couldn’t be better. We are still so energized from the live shows last year that you can feel this killer energy in the studio coming out of the speakers. It’s amazing.
Q: Why haven't we heard more about the album on Facebook or on your website yet?
Eric: We've simply been so concentrated on working on the material that we literally couldn't be stopped. When you're in the middle of a creative process, or recording, there is simply no good time to take a break.
Q: What is the status on the album?
Joey: We are extremely critical of the songs in every step; I have said before that most of the stuff we reject other bands would consider finished. Finally now we are recording. And then the album goes into mixing and mastering.More...
Manowar will be headlining the Gods Of Metal Italy on June 21st, 2012. This will be the fulfillment of Manowar’s promise made 10 years ago to return to Italy in triumph.
"The Italian fans have won; their belief, shown by their non acceptance of false metal is the reason we will finally return." said Joey DeMaio after the announcement. "There was no compromise on our part and on the part of our loyal fans and there never will be. There was a war between promoters as to who would bring MANOWAR back to Italy to give the fans what they want and Gods Of Metal won.
"MANOWAR have a strong and loyal following in Italy and all over the world. This will be MANOWAR's fourth headlining appearance at Gods Of Metal; no other band has ever done that! 2012 is the celebration of 15 years of GODS OF METAL and the festival is like a home to MANOWAR and we are once again proud to bring the band back to Italy" said promoter Andrea Pieroni. Back in 2005, Dimmu Borgir was a band still basking in the unholy success of its latest outing “Death Cult Armageddon.” And yet instead of launching into a new opus for fans to consume the band members decided on a new approach; they would re-release an early and often praised album (“Stormblåst”) by completely re-recording it, updating the sound with modern production and slap “MMV” on the end. There had of course been prior examples of bands making this choice, but it was perhaps here that best truly crystallized the new era of metal re-recordings. No doubt you have heard of similar re-recordings in the same vein, perhaps most recently Gorgoroth’s “Under the Sign of Hell 2011” or Burzum’s “From the Depths of Darkness”? Perhaps not, but that’s what I aim to uncover for you here. More...

Late Friday night, Manowar bassist Joey DeMaio appeared onstage at this year’s Getaway Rock Festival in Gävle, Sweden and announced that Manowar will perform as next year’s festival headliners.
“The Swedish fans have won; their belief, shown by their non acceptance of false metal is the reason we will finally return.” said DeMaio after the announcement. “There was no compromise in their voices, nor in our resolve; we promised each other that it’s all or nothing. It is no secret that there was a war between promoters as to who would bring Manowar back to Sweden and finally give the fans what they want and Getaway won.”
“This is a major step for us and naturally we are honored that we could secure Manowar as headliners for Getaway Rock Festival 2012.” said festival organizer Tomas Gernberg. “Manowar have a strong and loyal following in Sweden, Scandinavia and all over the world. We are proud to be the ones to bring the band back to Sweden.”
“We played our last festival in Sweden in 1999 and we promised we would not return until we could give our fans what they deserve and next year that promise will be fulfilled. We vow to crack the earth with power and might,” said Joey DeMaio.
“This will be a show which no true metal warrior will want to miss. We are calling all Manowarriors not only from Scandinavia, but from all over the world to join us for earth-shattering, face-melting metal.” continues DeMaio, "The voice of the fans in Sweden has been heard, many other countries will also take heed and their voice too will be the reason Manowar will appear in their country next. There will be more news and surprises to be announced!"
While performing a concert in the Netherlands, American heavy metal veterans Manowar paid tribute to their former drummer, Scott Columbus, who died on April 4th at the age of 54. An excerpt reads as follows:
"I'm sure by now all of you have heard that we lost Scott Columbus this week; he passed away just a few days ago. I can only tell you there's a lot of rumors on the Internet flying around because people have nothing better to do with their fucking boring lives than to stir up shit and create rumors 'cause their lives have no fucking meaning. But I can tell you the truth, and the truth is this - Scott Columbus was our brother and your brother in metal. He was a father, and he was a friend. And he was a great musician, and he was a great guy. And he had a heart of gold. And he liked to drink beer, and he certainly liked this country a hell of a lot.
"Scott Columbus will never be forgotten, his memory will live on because he was one of those rare people. And heavy metal will never die as long as we all stick together. More...
