New Dark Tranquillity Video Available

Currently touring the US with Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada, Swedish melodic death metal masters Dark Tranquillity now present you their new promo video for the song “Shadow In Our Blood,” which was created by Vasara Films (Turisas, Dragonforce).

Vocalist Mikael Stanne reports in from tour: “Four shows into the tour we are now in lovely Atlanta, Georgia. The shows so far have been amazing. Tons of people have come out to all the shows and we have had a blast performing every night. We have been trying out some of the new songs and the response has been amazing. So we cannot wait for the album to come out so that we can play more of the new stuff that we are very proud of.

"The video for 'Shadow in our Blood' is online now and if you guys are into torture you might get a kick out of it. Imagine being strapped to a speeding motorized vehicle like one of those wooden maidens on pirate ships for 15 hours in the freezing cold forests of Finland and you might get an idea of what the video is all about.

"The guys from Vasara films, who also filmed and edited our live DVD, 'Where Death Is Most Alive,' once again did an excellent job. Enjoy!"

Metalunderground.com's Best of 2009 Awards

Here we are, more than one month into 2010, the Super Bowl past, as we've yet to post our staff picks for 2009. Nevertheless, I polled our staff here at Metalunderground.com at the end of last year to obtain their picks in several categories in metal for 2009 and will now present those results.

The outlook for 2009 in metal was perhaps positive, but not phenomenal before the year began, having seen a number of landmark releases and tours in the two years prior. But when the year was over, I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised at what a good year in metal 2009 turned out to be. As the metalcore trend fades further into horizon, we had hardly a mention of metalcore bands in this year's poll. Sure, the stalwarts will still have success, but the novelty has worn off and the genre as a whole does not generate as much buzz anymore. The only noticable trend was the growth of the thrash resurgence, which is hard to fault, giving the year a very solid metal feeling.

That said, let's get down to the details and talk about those bands that made 2009 such a solid year for heavy metal by announcing the Metalunderground.com staff picks for 2009. Here are the Metalunderground.com staff picks for the following categories: Best Metal Album of 2009, Best Metal DVD of 2009, Best Metal Newcomer of 2009, Best Live Act of 2009, and Most Anticipated Release for 2010. Dark Tranquillity's Turkey Tour Cancelled

Dark Tranquillity has issued the following message:

"Right now, a mere 15 hours before planning to leave for the airport, we got informed by the promotor Unirock that the entire Turkish tour has been cancelled.

"This is incredibly frustrating for us. Turkey is the home of some of the most passionate and devoted D.T. fans on the planet, and we very much looked forward to the adventure of playing not only Istanbul but other cities as well.

"We've spent lots of time and energy preparing for these shows; rehearsing, hiring crew, fixing merchandise and working out an enormous amount of practical and logistical details, and to see it all getting cancelled in the very last minute is extremely disappointing.

"We understand that the people that planned to go to the shows will be very upset and disappointed by this news, and we want it to be crystal clear that we - the band - had no part in the cancellation.

"We hope to able to return to Turkey as soon as possible."
