Musicians Comment On New Morbid Angel Album

Morbid Angel's new album "Illud Divinum Insanus" will be out in less than a week, and Season of Mist has now asked a series of famous names in the metal what they thought of the influential extreme metal act's new opus. The commentary from the various musicians can be viewed below, or you can check out Metalunderground.com's review here.

"The new Morbid Angel album will cause 3rd World War. After June 7th, the extreme metal scene is never gonna be the same again... And I already can't wait the moment I'll be sitting on my sofa listening to 'Illus Divinum Insanus' while the world burns! Ha!" - Nergal, Behemoth.

"No other band in the entire Extreme Metal genre but Morbid Angel would have ever dared to make 'Illud Divinum Insanus'. There are going to be quite a few unimaginative underground purists who think they know better what kind of album Morbid Angel should or should not be putting out, but with 'Illud Divinum Insanus' Trey and David prove that they answer to no one but themselves. It is an incredibly well written, performed, recorded and produced record." - Karl Sanders, Nile.

"One of the best death metal releases since their last album with Vincent. I'm not too much into the techno bits but I am a dude who will appreciate and respect bands doing new things, progressing... So it's all good. Vincent's vocals of course are still as good as they come. And the riffs are definitely there, Trey always delivers. New drummer is killer too!" - Mikael Akerfeldt, Opeth.

"The ultimate voice of death metal is back, as hellish as ever!" - Mikael Stanne, Dark Tranquillity.

"Glad to see Morbid Angel are back! We had our share of criticism when we first incorporated electronic elements in our sound and we know it takes courage and passion to follow one's own stream of inspiration. This time the guitar work is more impressive than ever and those 11 songs are a real 'tour de force'. With this new album they're not afraid to take the hit from the more conservative audience but that's what it means to be extreme!" - Vorph, Samael

"Innovation, wits and a feral 'no compromise' attitude is what brands the greatest of bands. 'Illud Divinum Insanus' is all that and a leap further! Hail Morbid Angel!" - Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen, Ava Inferi, ex Mayhem. More...

Nightrage Comments On "Vengeance Descending"

Nightrage has re-released the "Sweet Vengeance" and "Descent Into Chaos" albums together as a two CD set titled "Vengeance Descending." The set includes liner notes by Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates), Marios Iliopoulos, Fredrik Nordström, and Gus G. as well as new artwork by Gustavo Sazes. The set also features the song “Gallant Deeds,” which has lead vocals by Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquillity.

The song was very different and very cool. So I was happy to do it. It didn't fit on the album though so this is the very first time you guys get to hear it. Hope you like it!"

Dark Tranquillity Issues Tour Recap

Dark Tranquillity has issued the following recap of the band's recent tour dates:

"What a ride! After having spent most of the year touring other continents and laying to waste innumerable summer festivals, we finally brought the 'We are the void' experience to the European club circuit.

"The whole 'Where death is most alive part II' experience was amazing, and the seven weeks were filled with great shows and unforgettable moments. The idea of having a different local support band - determined by public vote - every night in mainland Europe turned out to be successful as well; we got to hear a lot of great acts and even got some tattoos courtsey of JP Mottin of El Comer Ocho. So we'd like to extend our most sincere thanks to everyone that took part in the shows - the awesome support acts of Insomnium, Avatar, Marionette and Omnium Gatherum, the beloved crew of Basti, Jorge, Jukka, Anders, Matti, Mikko and Jörg, all local support bands and of course all the fans that came out to the shows to give us the time of our lives.

"We've gotten some questions regarding the setlist. We shifted things around a bit to keep some variation for ourselves and for the numerous people that attended several of the shows, but these are the tracks that at some point were played. More...

Inmate Checks In With Show Recap

Slovenian metallers Inmate have checked in with the following update about the band's recent live shows supporting Dark Tranquillity:

"As you have probably noticed, we had 2 special shows in the past couple of weeks. Inmate was a support band on Dark Tranquillity world tour in Zagreb and Vienna. Our first stop was in Zagreb, Boogaloo club. We opened the show. Although we had mixed expectations because we played there for the first time, we didn't expect such a phenomenal respond. The crowd was more and more into our music and at the end of our performance we received a huge applause. Zagreb was ours. At the end of the show many people congratulated us and admitted they didn't expect such a performance from a support band. An answer to many of you out there: Guys, we are definitely coming back to Zagreb a.s.a.p.!

"Two days later we orientated our GPS towards Vienna. Szene , a well-known club in Vienna, was the target. We were happy to meet guys from Insomnium and Dark Tranquillity again. The first information we received after coming to the place: SOLD OUT SHOW! Woooooooow! We felt really great on the stage that night. Much more relaxed and a little bit more used to such a big crowd. We expected many people to attend our performance because of a sold out show. But to have a full venue at the end of the show … a dream come true. Headbangers in front line, applause of the whole hall and people asking for more! Thank you, Vienna. More...
