Danish hard rock/traditional metal act Pretty Maids posted a preview clip for the new track "Mother of All Lies." The song, which will be released as a single and video on January 22, 2013, appears on the band's forthcoming new LP "Motherland," due out on Frontiers Records on March 22, 2013 (EU) and March 26, 2012 in North America.
After their successful and highly acclaimed 2010 album “Pandemonium”, Danish melodic Hard Rockers, Pretty Maids celebrated their 30th anniversary with their debut visual release “It Comes Alive (Maid in Switzerland)” in 2012. “Pandemonium” showed the world that Pretty Maids were in a creative spring again, with the band in their finest moment. The melodic approach brought a return to the “Future World / Red Hot and Heavy” era of the eighties, but with an updated sound and freshness that consolidated Pretty Maids as strong as ever.
In late spring 2012, the band gathered to finally write the follow up album. Singer Ronnie Atkins tells: “We knew it was going to be a tough one to follow ! I remember back in the day when we had to follow up albums like 'Future World,' we tried more or less to copy the songs from the previous album to keep the same kind of balance. But this time we just wrote what came natural to us and that’s what became 'Motherland'."
The band teamed up again with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe) for the new album. Ronnie says: “Jacob was a natural choice since we had a great experience with him producing the “Pandemonium” album. The recordings went smooth to begin with, but then we had to start touring again during the weekends and this created some stress. Though I really feel strongly about “Motherland”. In my view it has all the ingredients of a good Pretty Maids album, maybe even more melodic than “Pandemonium” and absolutely, as far as I’m concerned a worthy follow up”. More...
Avantasia mastermind Tobias Sammet announced the next special guest for the forthcoming LP "The Mystery of Time," this time its Pretty Maids vocalist Ronnie Atkins. The announcement reads as follows:
"After Biff Byford (Saxon), Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween, Unisonic), Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, ex-Vengeance), Bruce Kulick (Grand Funk Railroad, ex-KISS, ex-Meat Loaf) and the German Filmorchestra Babelsberg another participent can now be announced: It's Pretty Maids vocalist Ronnie Atkins who will sing a role on the new Avantasia Metal Opera "The Mystery Of Time" (out in March 2013)."
Tobias commented on the addition of Atkins: "I have been a huge Pretty Maids fan since I was a teenager. I already asked Ronnie to be on the Metal Opera in 1999, but he was busy back then. Last year I saw Pretty Maids live, and they were a steam train on stage, unbelievable. After the show we met and Ronnie was a great guy. Finally after 13 years, I am really proud to have him on the new Avantasia album. And his kick-ass performance leaves no doubt: It was a great decision to ask him!" More...
Danish hard rock/metal act Pretty Maids announced that the follow up to the 2010 release "Pandemonium," will be entitled "Motherland." The band has been in the studio recording the album and issuing video blog reports, the latest of which can be seen below. Recently, Pretty Maids made its first United States appearance at ProgPower USA XIII in Atlanta (show report can be found at this location).
The band has not changed the "Pandemonium" production team with Jacob Hansen at the helm. Song titles in the works are "Mother of All Lies", "I See Ghosts", "The Iceman", "Why So Serious", To Fool a Nation" and "Motherland." Fans can expect "the usual dose of heavy guitar riffs and superb hooklines in the finest tradition of the band musical style." "Motherland" is expected for release in the spring of 2013 through Frontiers Records.

If there was ever an event for a first time festival goer, it would be ProgPower USA. Unfortunately, fans here are spoiled by the incredible privileges, some of which could never be properly duplicated by any of the huge European festivals. In Atlanta, you won’t find camping sites, 80,000 people and huge immense lines for signing sessions. What you will find is a community of about 1200 well-educated and well versed fans that throw an amazing party and represent some of the nicest people from all over the U.S. and the world. However, it is a party which also includes the many members of the best bands you can find in the world (not just those who are playing) all within an incredibly intimate setting of a venue that is as unmatched in sound quality as it is fan friendly. For its first 12 years, ProgPower USA seemed out of my reach for reasons I cannot fully explain or comprehend (stupidity comes to mind). However, lucky #13 consisted of a lineup which I personally felt was the strongest in its history (though called “weak” by progressive fan standards), and was perfect for my very first taste of the ProgPower USA experience. As soon as this lineup was announced last year, I drew up the battle plan to attend. The ability to see Serenity, Mystic Prophecy, Pretty Maids and so many others make their debut U.S. performances was something of a dream for this aging fan boi. Topping it off was a headline performance my current favorite Epica, so finding a way to get there became mandatory. What transpired exceeded all my hopes and expectations, a dream I wish I never woke from. (For complete reviews, check out Metal Underground.com's road reports on Day One, Day Two and the pre-show with Nightwish & Kamelot by colleague Progressivity_In_All.) More...
The morning of September 15th was a bit hazy for most attendees, as the Artmore post-show celebrations had famously ensued when Epica finished up Day One's show at 2:30 in the AM. Really, where else were you going to go after getting 12 straight hours of show time, knowing that the bands you just saw on stage would be mingling with you in the courtyard? It just didn't make sense to go home. Nightwish and Kamelot were off on their tour after playing the pre-ProgPower show on Thursday.
One of the other fun things about ProgPower is that it brings out members of other bands who aren't playing, but just want to see a great show. In the courtyard later in the day, I would run into Pyramaze vocalist Urban Breed (ex-Tad Morose) as well as Oklahoma-based progressive metal band Vangough. I met the members of Vangough at a Mexican restaurant a block up from the venue for lunch and an interview about their most recent album, "Kingdom of Ruin," and their future. Festivities for Day Two kicked off at 2:30 in the afternoon. Brace yourselves, because this is going to be a long write-up. More...
Danish traditional metal band Pretty Maids announced that the band will celebrate its Thirtieth Anniversary with the release of a double live CD and DVD package entitled “It Comes Alive (Maid in Switzerland)” on March 23, 2012 (EU) and March 27, 2012 (North America).
The press release reads: "Following the highly acclaimed 2010 album “Pandemonium”, Danish melodic hard rockers, Pretty Maids have been touring more or less constantly throughout 2010/2011. They undertook a full scale European tour in 2010 and have since played several festivals and occasional gigs. The overwhelming response to the new songs and the ongoing requests coming from the fans prompted the band to take their chance and record a live 2CD/DVD last October 1st 2011. Pretty Maids gathered in Pratteln, Switzerland with an enthusiastic and highly explosive crowd of die hard fans and followers to fulfill the demand, for an energetic and memorable performance which was recorded with a fully equipped mobile studio and cameras.
" 'Riding on the success of our previous studio album Pandemonium and with maybe the strongest line up ever, we thought that we’d make some kind of a live document of what this band is all about in the present time' tells singer Ronnie Atkins. 'It Comes Alive is purely and simply a tribute to all our fans and supporters throughout the world, who gave us so many memorable moments, so much pleasure and making our childhood dreams come through'.
" 'The band’s spirit during the last couple of years has been better than in a long long time' says Atkins. And 'It Comes Alive (Maid in Switzerland)' shows the band at the top of their game, performing songs from a 30 year long career.
" 'It’s always difficult to make a set list that satisfies everyone' continues the singer, 'It’s a combination of what the crowd expect us to play and what we like to play ourselves ! But of course there are songs like 'Future World' and "Red Hot and Heavy' that we have been playing for the last 25 years so, they still get a new life every time we play ‘em and still seem to please our audience. But basically what you will find on this Live album are the songs that we toured with on the Pandemonium tour, with a few exceptions'." More...

PRETTY MAIDS' last album, entitled "Wake Up To The Real World", was released in November 2006 still on Frontiers Records. Singer Ronnie Atkins stated about the CD, "The new record has all the trademarks a good PRETTY MAIDS album should have, and that's the overall combination of good melodies and strong guitar riffs. But the key word, as far as I'm concerned, is it's gotta be melodic: whether it's the heavier and faster tracks or the more ballad/AOR-oriented kind of stuff; in other words 'good songs', and I think the album has got that!"
Danish metal band Missing Tide, which features members from Royal Hunt, Pretty Maids, Manticora, and Kingdom Come, has signed to Lion Music. The band will be releasing their debut album, "Follow the Dreamer," on November 6th through Lion Music.
