U.D.O. Brings On New Keyboardist

Following the recruitment of his son Sven Dirkschneider in the drum position, U.D.O. has now issued the following update about bringing on a new keyboardist for upcoming live shows:

"U.D.O. is very proud to present our new tour keyboarder Harrison Young. The band is currently rehearsing for the tour. Harrison already became a fixed part of the U.D.O. family and everybody is highly motivated to kick ass on tour. This is the best U.D.O. ever with a great NEW setlist!!!!

"Harrison Young is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and audio producer from just outside of New York City, currently living in the Netherlands. "For the past several years, Harrison has been touring the world with Doro as her keyboardist, appearing at festivals like Wacken, Graspop, and Sweden Rock, in addition to countless headline shows everywhere from Los Angeles to Moscow. In 2013, he sang the official anthem of the inaugural Full Metal Cruise alongside Doro in front of hundreds of thousands of people at Hamburg Germany’s 824th Harbor Celebration.

"He also recently released a new album with his long time rock band, Earth Minor entitled 'Across The Atlantic In Record Time,’ which is now available worldwide at his website. Sven Dirkschneider Joins His Father's Band

After splitting with former drummer Francesco Jovino and numerous auditions with possible new band members, the decision has been made – the new drummer and band member of U.D.O. will be Sven Dirkschneider.

'His drumming has simply convinced us most," the band says. "His style of playing drums is fresh and really grooves heavily. It simply is exactly what we need for U.D.O. We also know that Sven fits perfectly into the band family. He has been working as a drum tech for us for more than four years and we know from several world tours that everyone likes him and gets along with him perfectly.“

Sven Dirkschneider is 21 years old and is now the youngest member of U.D.O. From the beginning Sven was in touch with his father's job and ran around backstage at his shows, and he felt at a very early stage that this could be his world as well. His debut show for U.D.O. will be on March 6th in Wuerzburg/Germany.

"It is a very special feeling to be a part of my father’s band," he says. "I somehow have always been around with the band since I can remember. But I have never dreamed of being a real band member one day." More...

U.D.O. Streaming "Basta Ya"

German Heavy Metal force U.D.O. has recorded a special song for upcoming album "Steelhammer," which will be released on May 24th (May 21st USA). “Basta Ya” comes up with a hot topic - the lack of perspectives for the youth in a united Europe.

“The youth in Europe is in a unique situation at the moment,” vocalist Udo Dirkschneider explains. “They are the first generation to grow up in a united Europe and therefore the first who have to deal with the circumstances this brings. Also, however hard their respective situation might be, they hold the future in their hands.“

Dirkschneider himself lives in Ibiza, Spain, a country where the effects of the Euro crisis left unmistakable marks, with an unemployment rate of 50% among the adolescents. "This is something I really think about a lot," Dirkschneider speaks out. "I’m a family father myself, a father of two now adult kids who both just started their working life. Young people need chances, opportunities to reach something. What happens in Spain right now, is far away from this. It’s obvious that a whole generation is in fear of losing their livelihood."

This is the first track Udo Dirkschneider has recorded in Spanish. "Basta Ya" is a typical shout in Spanish speaking countries to protest against injustice. At the same time it’s a shout of motivation, to force a change. Vitor Garcia of Spain’s Warcy sings “Basta Ya” in a duet with Dirkschneider. More...
