Tygers Of Pan Tang Shares "Electrifyed" Video

New Wave Of British Heavy Metal favourites Tygers Of Pan Tang, who recently completed a short UK tour with Demon, has debuted a new music video for the song, "Electrifyed." You can check it out below.

As vocalist Jack Meille puts it: "In Tygers history rarely has a song title suggested the album title but this time it was clear for all of us that 'Electrifyed' was the one. It's another 'Robb riff-based song' which will keep you headbanging all the way through."

And Robb Weir, celebrating today, adds: "I'm shocked! The last Tygers single was released on April 21st 2023… Can you believe that: 2023! I'll tell you something even more shocking… 'Electrifyed,' the brand new single from the big cats, is out on the 4th of May. If this doesn't blow the door off your fuse box, nothing will!"

With its driving rhythm section, electrifying twin-guitar attack, and anthemic chorus designed for maximum impact, "Electrifyed" captures everything that has kept the Tygers relevant for over 40 years, and proves they’re still pushing forward at full throttle. More...

Raven Debut Cover Of Metallica's "Metal Militia"

Raven have released their cover of Metallica’s classic track “Metal Militia,” now available for streaming. The British proto-thrash veterans were among Metallica’s earliest tourmates, having shared stages with them during a 1983 tour.

Their rendition appears on the upcoming tribute compilation “No Life ‘Til Leather – A Tribute To Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All”, which pays homage to Metallica’s groundbreaking debut album (not “Load,” as the band cheekily notes) and is set for release this Friday, November 14th, via Silver Lining Music.

Raven frontman and bassist John Gallagher spoke about their take on the song — which features his brother Mark Gallagher (guitars/vocals) handling lead vocal duties — stating: More...

Tygers Of Pan Tang To Re-Issue 2008 Album

Robb Weir, Tygers Of Pan Tang founder and keeper of the flame, was at a crossroads. He had tried to keep the Tygers alive with differing lineups but now he was in the position of seeing his hopes dissolve completely as the band were unable to find just the right vocalist. He was determined to give it one more chance and the band cast around for a new front man. He knew that this was possibly his last chance. Enter Jack Meille, resident of Florence and possessor of a set of pipes that could not only do justice to the Tygers back catalogue, but crucially, create the hard rock melodies essential to the band’s sound for the future.

Robb remembers Jack’s audition well. "I knew, from the moment I put my hand up to stop Jack’s audition 40 seconds in and offered him the job… I just knew he was going to be the ‘Voice’ of the Tygers." He joined the existing line-up of Robb Weir, Craig Ellis, Dean Robertson and Brian West and soon they were in the studio together recording what would become "Animal Instinct."

Jack has strong memories of his first session recording with the band. "I was so nervous on the first day of recording in the studio. I had written quite a few melodies and lyrics but it was the first time that I had recorded away from Florence, in a studio I had never been in. Everything was so new, exciting and demanding at the same time! I remember I had the best sleep of my life as I was so exhausted after every session."

There was always something about that original release though that bothered the band: the sleeve. It was felt that it didn’t do the band justice. Step in Andy Pilkington, responsible for the last two Tygers albums’ covers. He was asked to create a cover that would sit happily alongside the quality seen in other Tygers album sleeves. They also felt that the sound required a new mix and called upon the services of trusted friend and producer Marco Angioni to add the necessary sheen to an already fine sounding album. A bonus track, "Don’t Say Rock’n’Roll Is Gonna Die" has also been added to the re-issue.

But we will leave the final word to Geoff Barton (the man who coined the term NWOBHM) who, when he reviewed "Animal Instinct" for Classic Rock magazine, reckoned it was not only an album deserving of 8 out of 10, but he confessed it to be "preferable to the then current offerings from Whitesnake and Def Leppard."

"Animal Instinct" will be reissued on CD, LP (transparent light blue vinyl, limited to 500 copies) and digital formats on November 22nd, 2024 via Mighty Music. More...

70,000 Tons Of Metal 2024 (Day Two)

Day two of 70,000 Tons Of Metal was an early start, and by early, I mean around noon. The first bands of the day normally start playing around ten in the morning, but only the very hardcore or the still inebriated fans are having metal for breakfast. One of NWOBHM’s elite bands, Tygers of Pan Tang, was the first band on our list that day. They were good, but at this point of their career, they reminded me of your friend’s fathers band playing classic heavy metal at your local bar and grill. Next up was Nervosa. There have been so many line-up changes over the past couple of years, I wasn’t sure who was currently in the band other than Prika Amaral. There were some technical issues at the start of their set, but they were cruising along by their second song.

With our boat cruising through the Atlantic Ocean towards Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, it was time to enjoy some of the other things on the Freedom Of The Seas other than just metal. There are several restaurants on board the ship that are not included within the price of admission. You pay extra for these restaurants and you must make reservations right away because the spots are limited. My wife and I made reservations at the Izumi Hibachi (Japanese steakhouse) and at Chops Grill (steakhouse) on back-to-back nights.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Windjammer Grill or the main dining room, but sometimes you just want to get away from it all and these restaurants are a good option and a not too terribly expensive option. There is also an Italian restaurant and a Johnny Rockets burger grill to choose from.

For late night eats, the standbys have always been Sorrento’s Pizza and the Promenade Café. However, the Windjammer is now offering late night eats from midnight until 4 am. This wasn’t available in 2020 and was much appreciated by the looks of all the metalheads filling up their plates to refuel in the middle of the night. More...

Tygers Of Pan Tang Shares New Live Track

Welcome to the first single and video from the soon to be unleashed live album from the Tygers Of Pan Tang, "Live Blood." "Gangland," which first appeared on the iconic “Spellbound” record, has been a staple of the Tygers live set since it made its first appearance in 1981.

Bass player Huw Holding, the most recent recruit to the Tygers camp, was astonished at the reaction to "Gangland" when he first joined the band. "It definitely leans towards the heavier side of our live show and the crowd love it" he remarked.

"Gangland" is also one of the first songs that, the then new vocalist Jon Deverill, wrote with the band. He recently described it as "…A diatribe against the establishment, politicians and corruption in high places - quite relevant in 2024 as it happens!." More...

Tygers Of Pan Tang Shares New Lyric Video

Time for a new single from “Bloodlines”, the upcoming album from NWOBHM legends Tygers Of Pan Tang. And guitarist Francesco Marras looked to the band’s history when he wrote "Fire On The Horizon."

"I was inspired by an old Tygers song - 'Running Out Of Time' from the album 'Crazy Nights'," Francesco enthuses. "I wanted to write something fast and powerful to live up to the band tradition of having powerful guitar riffs and short, impactful solos. It sits perfectly alongside the other nine fantastic tracks on the album."

Listening to the song, you can easily understand Marras’ excitement. It’s a sharp riff with lightning solos, making up a fast and energetic track. It won’t have much trouble becoming one of the favourite Tygers’ live tunes and competing with the classics.

"Bloodlines" will be released on LP (black and red vinyl, with the latter being limited to 500), CD and digital formats via Mighty Music on May 5th, 2023. More...

Tygers Of Pan Tang Debuts New Single

Fresh from their return to the road after the Covid-19 lockdown, NWOBHM Illuminati Tygers Of Pan Tang are ready to release the latest album of a career that started back in 1978. But, despite their veteran status, they show no signs of stagnation or tiredness. In fact, powered by what is probably their tightest and better lineup to this date, they unleash a digital single full of energy and power: "Edge Of The World."

"Based on Robb's riff, the new song shows the great songwriting talent of Francesco who came up with the Spanish-flavoured section and the melodic chorus", vocalist Jack Meille offers, about the track. "This song sums up the ultimate Tygers sound: heavy and yet melodic!"

Drummer Craig Ellis adds: "The lyrics were inspired by the unprecedented, strange and worrying pandemic circumstances that each and every one of us suddenly found ourselves in, literally, one more step and we'd be forever falling."

A new Tygers Of Pan Tang album is expected to be released this Spring. More...

Tygers Of Pan Tang Posts New Music Video Online

Legendary NWOBHM band Tygers Of Pan Tang release today the official video for the title track of their new EP, "A New Heartbeat". The video, directed by the band's drummer Craig Ellis, was made in Covid-19 pandemics time, with a working method and a concept reflecting exactly that.

"By the time the World had persevered through over a year of the Covid-19 pandemic we were all in a very bleak state and the band, presented here in black and white from the onset, is a reference to that", Craig states. "As the song progresses and the pandemic worsens each member loses definition, becoming a different person to who they once were. Each member is often in their own modular shape just as many of us have been when having to quarantine, but we also come together at times just as we did during the writing of the new album. The vibrant green, present throughout the video, represents three elements; the moving modular shapes are the covid virus threat that is constantly shifting towards and away from us; the ECG pulse is the aspiration and fortitude to overcome the disease and the menacing tiger in the background is constantly moving towards the screen as we all, together fight and push forward, challenging the pandemic head-on. Towards the end of the video we see a further change clearly indicating promising signs ahead", the musician/director concludes. More...

The band chose songs on the album which they believed to be classics and to represent the renaissance of the Tygers boosted by having a Florentine on vocals! Partially written on the road, the tracks not only have killer riffs, balls and power pushing performances to the limit, but express the band’s creativity and musical chemistry for songwriting. Tygers Of Pan Tang Releasing Self-Titled Album

Tygers Of Pan Tang's self-titled new album is finally coming to North American for fans on February 24th. Following an already successful European launch, band founder/guitarist Robb Weir notes, "its been 34 years since a USA Tygers release and we are super excited to give you this one... it's a monster!"

Who would have predicted that 2016 would turn out to be the most productively successful year since their early days for a band whose history stretches back to the birth of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal?

The year began the signing of a new record deal with Scandinavia’ Mighty Music. Whilst the band was happy to produce at The Blast Studio in Newcastle, the Tygers knew that the mix needed a fresh pair of ears.

Mighty Music CEO Michael H. Andersen recommended Soren Andersen/Medley Studio for the mixing. Soren was only too happy to work with a band whose credentials were so firmly established. For the mastering, Harry Hess of Harem Scarem fame was the perfect man for the job. More...

Denim And Leather: Celebrating 35 Years Of NWOBHM

This month marks thirty five years since one of the most important terms in heavy metal history was coined. After a show featuring Iron Maiden, Angel Witch and Samson, Sounds writer Geoff "Deaf" Barton wrote a review of the concert in which a phrase was used that still stands strong today. It was the time when head banging public was introduced to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The term was arguably created to cause a stir amongst fans who would argue that heavy metal bands in Britain was nothing new and that the likes of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest had been packing out large venues and appearing on such television shows as Top of the Pops for the last few years, despite the dominance of punk rock. However, these bands were different. They possessed the energy of punk but had the look and volume of the early metal bands before them. They took heavy metal away from the grandiose indulgence which some bands had become embroiled in and brought it back to the common man.

It was truly an exciting movement, full of high quality bands which would go on to influence hundreds more and in some cases, become superstars themselves. More or less every metal fan will be able to tell you that Iron Maiden was one such NWOBHM band, with a slightly smaller number being able to point to Def Leppard as another group from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal who went on to stardom after the release of their excellent self-titled EP and debut album, "On Through the Night," following which they shifted direction to the band we know today.
