With the Queensrÿche canvas wiped completely clean and the band's easel the strongest and most stable it's been in years, Eddie Jackson, Todd LaTorre, Parker Lundgren, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton forge ahead to create yet another QR masterpiece. The band has already begun writing new material for the follow up to their critically acclaimed self-titled 2013 Century Media Records release, Queensrÿche. The new album is tentatively scheduled for release in early summer 2015.
"The Queensrÿche internal dynamic has certainly changed in terms of musicianship. It's more of a cohesive team and the chemistry we have now is making what we can do creatively limitless. For Queensrÿche, it was always about being able to write together as a band. We didn't have that for a long time but now that it's back, we feel extremely liberated," states founding guitarist Michael Wilton. "We've already begun the writing process for the next album and have a few songs demoed that we feel really good about. We're taking the songs in the classic Queensrÿche direction but maybe a little more progressive and heavier at times. The thing is, you never know what you really have until it's complete. We can't wait for the final outcome. Writing with such a dynamic group of individuals has been nothing short of amazing."
Queensrÿche recently reached a settlement in their dispute over the ownership of the Queensrÿche name and brand. Century Media is pleased to announce that Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton have successfully agreed to purchase Geoff Tate's portion of the Queensrÿche name. The band will buy out their former lead singer's share of the Queensrÿche corporation while allowing him the ability to be the only one to perform Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II in their entirety. He will no longer have use of the TriRyche logo or any other album images aside from the Mindcrime releases. He can only refer to himself as the "Original Lead Singer of Queensrÿche or "Formerly of Queensrÿche" for a period of two years and that text must be at least 50% smaller than his name in all materials. After this two year period passes, he can only refer to himself as Geoff Tate with no mention of Queensrÿche at all. Geoff Tate will be able to finish any confirmed dates billed for More...
According to the Seattle Times, and confirmed and shared via the band, the long standing battle over the name Queensryche was settled out of Court. The band consisting of Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson along with Parker Lundgren and vocalist Todd La Torre will be the sole band with the right to operate and tour as Queensryche. Former vocalist Geoff Tate will pursue other endeavors, but retain the rights to "perform the concept albums 'Operation: Mindcrime' and 'Operation: Mindcrime II' in unique performances."
According to the article, a joint statement was issued, which states: "We wanted to let Queensryche fans around the world know that an amicable settlement has been reached between Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Geoff Tate with regard to the future of the Queensryche name."
Tate will do a brief Queensryche farewell tour this summer before launching a new chapter his career.
“It’s the rebirth of Queensryche and the way it used to be,” Wilton said by phone last night. “We’re rebuilding the Queensryche name.”
Tate stated: “One thing that’s really important for people to understand is that this never went to court. They (Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield) bought the name from me. But I retain ‘Operation Mindcrime.’ It’s sort of similar to the Pink Floyd situation where Roger Waters retained ‘The Wall.’ ‘Mindcrime’ was my thing and my story, so it’s appropriate that I keep that. So they will continue on as Queensryche, and I will continue on as me.” More...

Author Ian Carroll has launched a crowd funding campaign to release a book about the many bands he has interviewed at the Download festival.
Full details on the campaign and perks for contributing can be found at Kickstarter here. Carroll comments:
"In 2005 I started to write the book of the Donington & Download Festival (including Monsters Of Rock at Milton Keynes).
"I was coming to the end of completing the Official Book of the Reading Festival and saw Donington as the second release in my 'Festival Series' of books, covering my favourite festivals that I attend every year - Donington/Download Festival is the longest running rock festival in the UK, covering all genres from rock to classic rock, Emo to Screamo, Punk to Hardcore, Black Metal to Death Metal and every style in between, plus in the last 5 years the addition of drum & bass and dance - the festival that caters for all.
"I have traveled the length and breadth of England interviewing bands and artists for the book and have had some great times in amongst the hard work. I've also had many phone interviews from Metallica to Testament, Lordi to Staind, Alice Cooper to Queensrÿche and also what was possibly one of the legend Ronnie James Dio's last interviews, prior to cancelling his final UK tour." Queensrÿche recently filmed a "mini movie" with the tracks, "Spore," "Midnight Lullaby," "A World Without" and "X2" providing the score to a 10-plus minute story, dubbed "Queensrÿche: Ad Lucem." The film was created by Veva Entertainment Co. with director Daniel Andres Gomez Bagby and producer Marco De Molina and was filmed last month on location at Central City Stages in Los Angeles. The release date of the mini movie was not yet revealed.
Vocalist Todd La Torre, issued the following statement: "We decided to take a different approach with this video, which is comprised of four pieces of music from our latest self-titled release, Queensrÿche. It's a conceptual mini-movie music video that invites the audience to scratch beneath the surface a bit, rather than the usual "chewed food" that so many are used to being fed. We really wanted to deviate from a performance type of video so the music and story-line could be the main focus."
La Torre also adds, "The overall theme of the song Spore is one that deals with personal demons, relationship struggles, career pressures, personal/professional morals and ethical dilemmas. These are issues we all face on some level and the video touches upon them all. Midnight Lullaby/A World Without deals with the loss of a mother during childbirth, leaving a father as a single parent and struggling to move forward through the turmoil. X2, though it opens up our album, provides for a nice outro to it all. The end result is a roller coaster of emotion in an effort to find a healthy resolve. Given our history, we feel that this multifaceted conceptual video, along with a great cast of actors to suit, will really resonate with our fans." More...
