In a recent interview with Tomb Of The Opinionated, Obituary singer John Tardy confirmed the rumour that the band has parted ways with bass player Frank Watkins, who has been performing with the latest incarnation of Gorgoroth.
Tardy states: "Frank is no longer in the band and Terry Butler (Six Feet Under) will be doing all the shows that he can with us. Right now we are happy with that and if Terry’s schedule does not allow him to play with us we can always lean on Stever DiGiorgio (Sadus) or Kenny Andrews."
He also gave an update on the band's next studio album, which will be the first to be recorded without Watkins since 1989's, "Slowly We Rot.": "We have been doing so much traveling that is has been hard to get much done but, we have managed to get some songs started. We now have some time set aside to get some writing done so we will know more in the next couple of months. We are in no hurry and are going to take our time and enjoy the writing and recording process!"

"We promised you one surprise act, here is another: One of THE cult acts in the Black Metal Pantheon, the legend that is VON will perform in Bergen during Hole in the Sky 2010. Their two demos 'Satanic Blood' and 'Blood Angel' are among the most unique releases in Black Metal ever, songs like 'Lamb,' 'Devil Pig,' 'Veadtuck,' and 'Watain' have never been copied or bettered in all their minimalistic, hypnotic glory. Founding members Goat and Venien have decided to reform VON for a select number of shows, with Hole in the Sky being one the few festivals."

As the tributes from fans, friends and critics alike pour in, more contemporaries of Ronnie James Dio have spoken about the man, his music and his legacy. You can read some more tributes below.
Exodus' Gary Holt - "What more can be said about Ronnie that hasn't been said by so many others. He was the kindest, most humble metal god I've ever had the pleasure and honor of touring with. I first met him at Foundations forum, about two to three weeks before our tour with them during the Dehumanizer tour, for about ten minutes while he waited outside for his cab. I introduced myself, said it was an all time honor to meet and tour with him and said see you soon. Fast forward to the first day of the tour, and he sees me and says "How are you doing Gary?". I would not have been offended if he never knew my name the whole tour, but he remembered it from a ten minute chat around three weeks earlier. We had many golden moments hanging out with him, while he allowed me to relentlessly badger him for stories about Ritchie Blackmore and the time spent singing for my favorite band, Rainbow. R.I.P., your impact on me won't ever be forgotten." More...

According to a recent post by Obituary guitarist Trevor Peres, police in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador stopped the band's concert taking place due to permit issues. The message reads as follows:
"Local police stopped Obituary's sound check in Cuenca, Ecuador after fans were waiting outside in the rain for three hours because of production delays. The show was billed for Obituary to start playing at 2:30 pm, but due to the PA company getting a late start in the morning Obituary didn't started to sound check until 3:30 pm. During the sound check the local police decided to make an appearance and stop the entire show from going on. Apparently, the local promoter did not have the proper permits to put on a live concert. We were never officially told what exactly the permits were for, but the show was canceled.
"Obituary was ready to put on a show but was stopped. We are very sorry for the fans who drove hours and purchased tickets to see the concert. We hope that this show can be made up to the fans who paid for tickets. As soon as Obituary knows any information we will post it right here."
