Asphyx Cancels Show In Rome

Asphyx has issued the following announcement about canceling the band's previously scheduled Rome show this coming Saturday:

"For our always loyal die hard Italian Asphyx fans,

"We deeply regret that we cannot come to Roma this Saturday. In 25 years of Asphyx we have never let our fans down when it comes to a show and for us this too is a very sad and dark moment and our iron hearts are bleeding.

"To explain exactly why is too much to tell, but to keep a long story short is that the promoter did not keep promises made to us and because of this we no longer can trust this person or are willing to co-operate with him any longer. We did give him a chance until today but still there were many things unclear and promises broken. Next to our passion for the death metal we play we also are a professional band and under these circumstances we are not able to give you, our fans, the show they deserve to see and experience for their hard earned money. Asphyx Announces Special Roadburn Set

Dutch doom/death metal act Asphyx continues to promote new album, “Deathhammer,” which was released worldwide at the end of February via longtime partners Century Media Records. It is with great pride that Asphyx now announces the band has been invited to appear at 2013’s edition of the prestigious Roadburn Festival. The event's promoters commented:

“We're extremely pleased to announce that Asphyx will be playing a special set of their slowest death/doom (only throwing in a couple buzzing, diabolical tracks for good measure) at the Roadburn Festival 2013 on Saturday, April 20th at Het Patronaat in Tilburg, Holland.

"Especially for Roadburn Festival 2013, Asphyx will put emphasis on their most epic, crushing material, played with guts and balls, and which will guarantee pure doom/death rapture. Along the way, Asphyx' undisputable influence on many bands that have shredded Roadburn stages will become apparent as well.”

The Roadburn Festival 2013 will run for four days from Thursday, April 18th to Sunday, April 21st, 2013 (the traditional Afterburner event) at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. Other acts appearing at Roadburn Festival 2013 include Alcest, Castle, Hour of 13, Jess and the Ancient Ones, Kadavar and many more will be announced soon. More details can be found here. More...

Dew-Scented Confirmed For Summer Breeze

This year's Summer Breeze festival will be taking place from August 16th - 18th, with full details available at the festival's website here. The organizers of Summer Breeze have now issued the following announcement about confirming new bands:

"Since the release of their amazing breakthrough album 'Inwards', Dew-Scented have been at the forefront of European thrash metal. Since then, the cool bunch led by frontman Leif Jensen have been producing fantastic albums full of unstoppable riff power and overwhelming intensity at nicely regular intervals, cementing the band's excellent reputation time and again. In 2012, Dew-Scented aim at kick-starting their career with an entirely new line-up – with the exception of band boss Leif – and the fantastic new album 'Icarus', and are gearing up to shatter the Summer Breeze Open Air into small pieces. We are stoked to welcome the indestructible machine called Dew-Scented at our festival once more. Get thrashed!

"When Agrypnie played the Summer Breeze festival in 2008 for the first and only time so far, they were booked as consolation for all those who were mourning the recent disbanding of Nocte Obducta. Four years, one studio album and one EP later, the Hessians have made a career for themselves, having now reached the same level as the aforementioned group. Their new studio album is still being recorded as we speak, but their last EP 'Asche' was already an announcement for big things to come in the realm of post black metal. Expressive, multi-faceted, melancholic, dynamic – all these attributes fit Agrypnie like a glove and are underlined by the fact that their songs don't ever become predictable or interchangable. One of the most exciting bands our scene has to offer nowadays."

Forgotten Tomb Confirmed For Extremefest 2012

Extremefest 2012 will take place in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on the following dates:

5. July 2012 - 7. July 2012 DE – Hünxe, ExtremeFest Germany
5. July 2012 - 7. July 2012 AT – Salzburg, ExtremeFest Austria

The organizers of Extremefest have now issued the following announcement about confirming Forgotten Tomb and Ultrawurscht:

"Forgotten Tomb been around since 1999 and the Italians have caused quite a stir in the black and dark metal underground! 'Songs To Leave' (2002) or 'Love`s Burial Ground' (2004) are rightfully considered milestones of melancholic dark metal that the fourpiece infuses with doom and black metal elements. In 2011, Forgotten Tomb released their most recent effort 'Under Saturn Retrograde' and fans can look forward to one of the rare appearances of the Italians at the Austrian and German editions of Extremefest!

"It´s all about the sausage with Bavarian / Austrian act Ultrawurscht! Their highly explosive mixture of death metal, grind and hardcore – or simply 'Wurschtcore' – will one day conquer the world, and if you had the chance to check out albums such as 'Cheese Ass Built My Hot Dog' you`ll agree! Mixing metal and sausages should be declared a form of art anyway, so slap some wieners on the grill before checking out Ultrawurscht`s exclusive set at the Austrian edition of the Extremefest 2012!"

Amon Amarth To Headline Summer Breeze

The Summer Breeze festival organizers have issued the following announcement about confirming Amon Amarth as a headliner for the festival's 2012 edition:

"Behind the 24th door of our Advent Calendar there's none other than our favourite vikings AMON AMARTH, who are now confirmed as the second headliner for the 15th SUMMER BREEZE Open Air beside Subway To Sally.

"It's almost incredible the way our Swedish friends have enjoyed a continued rise to the top of the scene. Top-ten chart entries, headliner slots on all major festivals, sold-out tours, enthusiastic fans everywhere – by now Mr Johan Hegg and Co. have become real stars, but they still have their feet firmly planted on the ground, because they haven't forgotten where they started. And that's why they like to return to those places, one of them definitely being SUMMER BREEZE!

"What, it's Christmas already?!? How time flies. Our SUMMER BREEZE Advent Calendar had only just begun, and now it's all over again. We hope we were able to fulfill your wishes and expectations, and perhaps even surprise you with one or two of the confirmed bands.

"Here's a final overview of our Advent Calendar, which has been making you company for the last 24 days: More...

Asphyx Streaming New Album's Title Track

On February 27th in Europe and February 28th in North America, Dutch doom-death metal legends Asphyx will be releasing their 8th studio album, "Deathhammer," via Century Media Records. In anticipation of this release, the band is now giving fans their first preview of "Deathhammer" with the premiere of the album's title track on CVLT Nation.com. Click here to check out the song.

In regards to this new, merciless track, the band comments:

"To us this song is 100% real death metal! It's heavy, aggressive and it simply can't get more in your face than this. This song is composed by just a few shredding riffs which stick in your brain like a buzz-saw, vocals so angry that it could be a declaration of war, relentlessly pounding drums and a bass that roars like a tank. We are very proud of this song since it shows our view on real death metal: how we've always seen it, how we feel it and how we want it to be! Martin already roared a clear statement in the very beginning of this song: THIS IS TRUE DEATH METAL, YOU BASTARDS! And so it is!"

Asphyx Announces "Deathhammer" Details

Dutch doom-death metal legends Asphyx have now finished work on their 8th studio album, entitled "Deathhammer." Set to be released on February 27th, 2012 in Europe and February 28th, 2012 in North America via Century Media Records, "Deathhammer" features artwork by the band's long-time partner in designs, Axel Hermann.

Hermann has not only worked on all of the early Asphyx artwork, but is also responsible for classic Century Media artwork by bands like Morgoth, Unleashed, Samael, and Grave. In regards to their newfound collaboration, both parties commented:

"ASPHYX and Axel Hermann is a fusion that has always functioned perfectly...from the days of 'The Rack' back in 1991, 'til 'Deathhammer' in 2012. Like others such as Dan Swanö, Axel may be considered as an external member of the band and when we asked him to do the 'Deathhammer' cover--and as usual we would leave him free in his expression--we were very pleased to hear he was willing to take it on.

"...And the man has exceeded himself! To the perfect death metal album comes the perfect cover that still leaves enough to everyone's imagination. We hope he is as proud as we are on the final result. It seems all falls into place for this deathdozer of an album. I guess Axel can expect an offer from Le Louvre any time now. More...

After Party Massacre Trailer Posted Online

A teaser trailer has been posted online for the new movie "After Party Massacre," which will feature music from Incantation and Asphyx. The trailer is available below.

The creators of the movie also issued the following statement:

"Giving a new twist to horror, the Afterparty Massacre, brings metal, blood and gore back to the screen! Written and directed by both Kristoff (of Horrormerch.com) and Kyle Severn (of Incantation and Acheron), the Afterparty Massacre is one killer party with mind-blowing amounts of blood, metal, flesh and a huge death metal/industrial soundtrack from 16Volt, Asphyx, Incantation, Ventana and more!

"The After Party Massacre centers around a mysterious female fan - Scarlett - who attends a live performance by the metal bands Incantation and Soulless. At this show - Scarlett soon found herself thrown into the dark depths of torture and depravity showing what happens when you push - an already damaged mind - too far. During this show Scarlett encounters a forcibly rough fan that had followed her into an empty corner of the venue. During this altercation she has flashbacks of a dark past and it transforms her into a bloodthirsty killer on a mission to kill her attacker plus anyone and everyone else in her way (friend - fan and foe alike) until only a pile of bodies is left within this bloody massacre.

"With Scarlett being as patient and calculating as she is torturous and demented, her killing spree is a precise and bloody massacre to witness. Filled with sex, metal, and an unpredictable killer who uses an arsenal of axes, sex toys, box cutters, and power saws as her tools of torture and dismemberment. The After Party Massacre is a huge blood filled splatterfest that is too brutal to miss!"

Asphyx Issue Update On New LP "Deathhammer"

Dutch death metal legend Asphyx posted an update on the recording of the forthcoming LP "Deathhammer." The album is the follow up to "Death....The Brutal Way" in 2009. The new LP is scheduled for an early 2012 release through Century Media Records.

The band checked in with the following status report about the new album:

“By now, all the guitars, drums and bass tracks for the upcoming 'Deathhammer' album are recorded. Drums were recorded in the classic Harrow Studio, known from the Asphyx classics as 'The Rack' and 'Last One On Earth.' The guitars and bass were recorded in The Mörser Studio. In a few weeks, the vocals will be recorded in the Harrow Studio as well and then Dan Swanö will do the album’s mixing and mastering, just as on 'Death…The Brutal Way' and 'Live Death Doom.'

" 'Deathhammer' promises to be a darkened successor of 'Death…The Brutal Way.' Almost every band is praising their newest album to be heavier and more brutal than the previous one, but actually in this case it's the harsh truth. 'Deathhammer' is in every way heavier, doomier and darker. Maybe it’s because of the fact that most of the songs were written in late Autumn/Winter?! We do not know…but it’s easily our heaviest effort so far!."

In other Asphyx news, the band will be playing a string of dates in Europe, including an appearance at the NRW Deathfest in Germany on Saturday, September 17th, 2011. Asphyx will also perform at Metropool in Hengelo, Holland on October 15, 2011, where the band will play the complete “Last One On Earth” LP. Another appearance is scheduled at this year’s Eindhoven Metal Meeting on December 16, 2011, where the band will be play the “The Rack” album in its entirety to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its release.

Confirmed 2011 tour dates include:
