Dutch doom / death metal division Asphyx continues to promote latest album, "Incoming Death," which was released at the end of September via Century Media Records and nominated as one of our best metal albums of the year.
Asphyx is now launching a new music video for the album's merciless opening track "Candiru." The clip was shot during a recent appearance at Turock Open Air festival in Essen, Germany and was edited by Maurice Swinkels / Younique Film, who most recently worked with Asphyx on the "Forerunners Of The Apocalypse" clip.
Vocalist Martin van Drunen comments: "'Candiru' is a no-nonsense, non-compromising 3 riff containing fast Asphyx death metal track. A gory story about a revolting little fish from the Amazon that can nest itself in human genitals to suck blood after it got there via the urine stream. Only removable through amputation, so be careful there were you relieve yourselves folks! The video was recorded at this year's Turock Open Air in Essen Germany, which we can almost call our second home. The very first time we ever rammed that tune on stage. We had a ball, as always, so hope you do too while watching this." More...

The Netherlands has always had a soft spot for hard music. The country has played host to many metal festivals over the years, most notably the Eindhoven Metal Meeting, where many of metal's most beloved names have performed and several have recorded live albums. Their contribution to the music itself has also been quite noteworthy, especially in the death metal field. Today we'll be looking at another of their more notable bands, Overijssel's, Asphyx.
Asphyx was formed in 1987 by drummer Bob Bagchus and guitarist Tonny Brookhuis, who soon recruited a second guitar player named Eric Daniels and singing bassist Chuck Colli. This lineup lasted for two years but only recorded two demos, "Carnage Remains" and "Enter the Domain" before replacing Colli with Theo Loomans for the "Crush the Cenotaph" demo, which itself was the last recording before Brookhuis quit the group. Left as a trio, they recorded an album entitled, "Embrace the Death," though due to label problems, it remains unreleased to this day. More...
Only about a week left to go until the long awaited new studio album "Incoming Death" by Dutch doom/death metal act Asphyx is released worldwide on September 30th via Century Media Records. Therefore, Asphyx is pleased to debut a promotional video clip for the new album's track "Forerunners Of The Apocalypse" today.
Directed by Maurice Swinkels / Younique Film (Exodus, Kataklysm, etc.), who already worked on the "Deathhammer" clip by Asphyx, and featuring conceptual illustrations by Roberto Toderico.
Asphyx vocalist Martin van Drunen checked in with the following comment about the video: "'Forerunners Of The Apocalypse' is the first official video from the 'Incoming Death' album. Done on a hot Thursday night at the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen, Germany, where massive credits go out to the crew there. Lots of sweat, beers, laughter and probably the loudest playback session ever in metal! Filmed and edited by the one and only Maurice Swinkels, who probably went deaf after this. A grand cheerz also goes out to Roberto Toderico for the great Mongol warrior drawings! It was the last track written for the album, about genocidal ruler Genghis Khan. Especially about the sacking of Urgench, where 1.2 million were decapitated without mercy. A fucken stampede of a headbanger, so break your necks on this one!"
The track list for "Incoming Death" is:
2. Division Brandenburg
4. The Feeder
5. It Came From The Skies
6. The Grand Denial
7. Incoming Death (see music video here)
8. Forerunners Of The Apocalypse
9. Subterra Incognita
10. Wildland Fire
11. Death: The Only Immortal

Death is coming nearer with the release of the long awaited new studio album by Dutch Doom Death Metal division Asphyx on September 30th, 2016 worldwide via Century Media Records.
Consequently, it's about time to launch the first song off "Incoming Death"! Check out
the relentless title track in the player below. The video enhancing the song was edited by Carl Assault and features live-footage from the band's performance at Brutal Assault Open Air 2015.
Asphyx vocalist Martin van Drunen checked in to comment on the song as follows:
"Incoming Death was music-wise composed in perhaps 10 minutes when Husky and Paul were checking the sound in the Perle am Rhein studio for the flexi recordings. When we all freaked out on it, we knew we had the title track for the album. It's so typical our ASPHYX death metal style. Straight forward, no nonsense, three riff, in-your-face death metal. Not that we were looking for a title track that would be in the tradition of 'Death The Brutal Way' or 'Deathhammer'. It just came out like this. It's a damn neck breaker to raise hell to when playing live and that's why the choice for the track was only natural. Stanza, chorus, repeat, bridge, stanza, chorus, end. That's how it's done. On Instinct. Lyricwise three times death and gore by plague, aliens and zombies. And some metal beasts are even shorter than two minutes! So grab a beer, bang that head and scream along. This is fuckin' Asphyx and we always deliver the goods!"
The track listing reads as follows:
2. Division Brandenburg
4. The Feeder
5. It Came From The Skies
6. The Grand Denial
7. Incoming Death
8. Forerunners Of The Apocalypse
9. Subterra Incognita
10. Wildland Fire

Dutch death/doom outfit Asphyx is fiendishly pleased to reveal the cover art and track listing for upcoming full-length offering, "Incoming Death," which has been slated for a September 30th, 2016 release date through Century Media Records. Asphyx vocalist Martin van Drunen checked in with the following comment about the album:
"'Incoming Death,' the third Asphyx album after our resurrection in 2007, contains 11 furious songs in the traditional death/doom style which we are known for so well. Only more unmerciful than ever! Lyrical themes include gore humor, death, doom, war, sci-fi, the varying trustworthy Asphyx subjects, each fusing perfectly with the metal of the tracks.
"The album title already existed two or three years ago, being a phrase that doesn't really exist but refers to what entrenched soldiers cry out when under severe artillery fire. Thus 'Incoming Death' implies another relentless bombardment of monstrous Asphyx death/doom metal!"
Once again, the album's artwork was imagined by the always prolific Axel Hermann (Sodom, Grave, Morgoth, etc.), who commented on the artwork approach as follows:
"'Incoming Death' is my tenth collaboration with Asphyx. Instead of visualizing the obvious, which would have been a reaper just collecting the soul of a dying man on his deathbed, I tried a maybe more sinister approach, simply by giving the concept a slightly different twist. A demon-infested living cemetery filled with decaying souls, forever being tortured with their own consciousness...or worse!" More...
The Dutch doom/death metal pioneers from Asphyx are ready to announce their new studio album release, following 2012's "Deathhammer" record. The new album is now finished and will be entitled "Incoming Death."
This new release is due out worldwide on September 30th, 2016 via Century Media Records. Vocalist Martin van Drunen checked in with the following status report:
"Four and a half years after the release of 'Deathhammer,' we finally managed to finish its long awaited successor. It will be out on September the 30th, as always on our beloved label Century Media. Expect 11 unmerciful battering tracks in the typical Asphyx death/doom style, but also the most varied Asphyx material up to date without losing our rawness, brutality and heaviness. The album will be entitled 'Incoming Death.' And like 'Deathhammer,' it's a phrase that doesn't really exist, but refers to what entrenched soldiers cry out when under severe artillery fire. Thus 'Incoming Death' implies another relentless bombardment of monstrous Asphyx death/doom metal!
"Recorded on different locations throughout 2016 and once more mixed and mastered by the mighty Dan The Man Swanö. Serious ear bleedings guaranteed! It's also our first record also featuring Husky on drums, who is now with us for already two and a half years molesting the pig skins with the absolute perfect Asphyx attitude, passion, pride and mayhem. We are very proud of this best Asphyx album ever! And knowing our dedicated fans worldwide, they will be proud of us as well! Soon we will hit the stages on every continent to do what we do best; Intense, loud, sweaty, filthy and ruthless live performances!" More...

Death should be credited with creating death metal, at least the old school style we recognize now, as they birthed the infamous Tampa, Florida sound. Bands such as Autopsy and Obituary—two of the forerunners—would not exist without Death. Death is not the true father of death metal, though. That distinction goes to Possessed. The California Bay Area group not only played a style of brutal, vicious metal, with loads of Satanic imagery, they also coined the term “death metal” on the “Seven Churches” album.
Around 1985, albums similar to “Slowly We Rot” (Obituary) and “Mental Funeral” (Autopsy) simply did not exist. Thrash was the fasted, craziest music around. Of course Possessed has already been mentioned, but the influence of Slayer, who obviously influenced Possessed, can not be under recognized. Where Possessed was different was they used a rougher production. Dark Angel, whose drummer, Gene Hoglan, would go on to be one of the most heralded drummers in the metal biz, certainly showed a good dose of Slayer in their sound. In the beginning, Slayer was nothing more than a faster, nefarious, more solo-oriented Venom protégé. More...
After returning from a tour of Latin America, Dutch metal band Asphyx continues working on new material to finally follow latest studio album release “Deathhammer” from 2012. Check out impressions from the tour in the video clip below, while the band had this to say:
“Asphyx recently ended a small tour throughout Latin America, which was the first tour of the band for over 20 years. We performed in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Sao Paolo, Curitiba, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Lima, Mexico City, San Jose and Medellin. Thanks to all local promoters and venues, D-19 and especially our dedicated and insane fans it became a fantastic experience we'll never forget and a great success for Asphyx. So a massive 'cheerz a lot!' to everybody in making this possible and all the hordes that came to support the band.
"So many stories to tell, so many great times and shows we had. Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia; all you crazy metal heads can be proud of your countries and continent where death metal is so very much alive. It was indeed death... the brutal way! And let's hope Asphyx can return in the near future!
"In January 2016, Asphyx will hit the rehearsal room to finish composing and arranging the final pieces for the follow up of 'Deathhammer.' And then hit the studio for the primary recordings, which will also feature Stefan 'Tormentor' Hueskens on drums for the very first time. So we start the new year off promising and 2016 will definitely see another brutal Asphyx album in our own particular style.” More...

"Asphyx is proud and very pleased to announce their first tour on the South American continent. As many of our long term die-hard and dedicated followers come from there and were begging us to fly over this is thus for us like a dream come true that finally the Latin American hordes are able to witness an intense Asphyx show of which we are infamous for. Originally released in 1991 ("The Rack") and 1992 ("Last One On Earth"), the first two full-length albums by Dutch death/doom commando Asphyx are finally returning back on vinyl. Both are set for worldwide release on March 16th, 2015 via Century Media Records. Asphyx vocalist Martin van Drunen has checked in with the following comment about these re-releases:
"Over the years Century Media has put out a lot of superb vinyl re-releases. Especially for that LP freak of today for whom it's difficult, if not impossible, to find the originals. Even I couldn't obtain everything as a young metalhead back in the days and therefore I am happy that labels do decide to re-release some sonic classics.
"And so is the case with these first two Asphyx albums. After the mauling 'Death...The Brutal Way' and crushing 'Deathhammer,' old and new Asphyx fans are now given the opportunity to add 'The Rack' and 'Last One On Earth' to their vinyl collection. Two outstanding re-releases by dedicated metalheads for loyal metalheads. Kept as close to the originals as possible, not only when it comes to the artwork of ancient master Axel Hermann, but also sound-wise these take you back to the early days of true death metal...and of Century Media as well!
"The band is proud of these milestones, as lots of the tracks are still and always will be played live with the intensity and volume Asphyx is so well-known for. So get your hands on these albums, and give 'em a deafening spin on your record player! Vinyl...The Brutal Way!"
Both vinyl editions orientate on the original pressings and feature the original covers. Both albums are based upon the original early 90's recordings and were specially mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel / Temple Of Disharmony (Massacra, Dissection, Grave) in December 2014. You can also see Asphyx live on these dates: More...
