Ukrainian black metallers Balfor are streaming pre-production versions of two tracks as a demo of what is to come on the band’s sophomore full-length album.
“Heralds of the Fall” and “Wolfbreed” were recorded in November 2012 at the Blacklight Studio, Ukraine, with long-time Balfor producer Dmitry “Yrt Glormkhaoth” Shulgin recording the bass guitars, while the band’s former guitarist Alexander “Agnarr” Takhmazov recorded lead guitars. Keyboards are by Ivan Popov.
Balfor is expected to enter the studio to record the full album later this fall. Having recently announced a lineup change that saw all the former members aside from founder and frontman Thorgeir leave the band, Balfor is set to play its first show with its new lineup on June 23rd at the Kilkim Zaibu Festival in Lithuania. Ukrainian black metal act Balfor previously announced a line up change that sees virtually the whole band departing, with only front man and guitarist Thorgeir remaining. Commenting on the reason for such a drastic change, Thorgeir said:
"We parted ways for a variety of reasons and we hadn't actually worked together for a very long time. This decision was not an easy one, but it was a necessary one that took into account the needs and interests of all the band members, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the guys for all this time we worked together, it was a great experience! But sometimes a change is necessary if you want to move forward."
With work having begun on the sophomore full-length album, Balfor's new line up, which consists of Thorgeir on vocals and guitars, Warider on guitars and backing vocals, Athamas on bass and vocals and Khaoth on drums, marks a new stage in the band's development, one that Thorgeir is very positive about.
"We have been rehearsing together since the beginning of the year, and I am now very sure that the new line up works just as well, if not better, than the previous incarnation of Balfor, because new blood has brought a fresh perspective to the band's music and a lot of enthusiasm. Warider, the new guitarist, is quite young, but hugely promising, whilst Khaoth has honed his considerable drumming skills with Dark Metallers Khors. Athamas brings with him not only the experience he has gained with bands like Deferum Sacrum and Raventale, but he is also a great vocalist, which is able to give an additional perspective to the Balfor sound." Vocalist Anton Thorgeir Primak, founder and frontman of Ukrainian black metal band Balfor, has announced he has ceased cooperation with fellow band members Erland, Dooms, and Dragon-T. Thorgeir comments:
"Our ways parted as a result of different circumstances, we haven't worked together for a very long time. This decision was not easy, but it was necessary and considers the interests of all band members. Sometimes changes are necessary if you want to bring a new horizon. I want to thank the guys for all this time we worked together, it was great!
"Also I'd like to say for all our fans that Balfor's principles remain the same, I'm true to you and continue to work for you on a new album. See you soon and stay fucking metal!"

Ukrainian black metallers BALFOR, who recently signed to Pulverised Records, have issued a statement announcing guitarist Agnarr’s unexpected departure. Agnarr was forced to quit the band following a recent injury that’s said to be serious enough to stop the guitarist from performing in the studio or live. No further info on the injury was given.
BALFOR founding frontman Thorgeir comments, “We are very sorry that this has happened to Agnarr. It’s a terrible thing when a musician is no longer able to play, and he is one of those musicians with a natural talent and a lot of experience. We hope that he’ll be able to overcome the effects of the injury and eventually return to playing. BALFOR is certainly going to miss both his musicianship and his companionship.”
Dragon-T, former guitarist of thrash metal band Hell:On, will replace Agnarr. “Once again we’ve been lucky in our search for a guitarist,” Thorgeir notes. “Dragon-T is as skilled as Agnarr, both live and when it comes to recording, and the fact that he was available just when we needed him was a stroke of good fortune for us.”
Dragon-T’s first live appearance with BALFOR was at the Metal Heads Mission Festival in Kiev this weekend where BALFOR headlined. Upcoming live dates for BALFOR include:
5/22/2010 - Hot Jam Club - Lugansk, UA
5/23/2010 - Vorovskogo Club - Dimitroy, UA
7/6/2010 - Rockmaraton Festival - Pecs, HU
BALFOR will release their debut full-length, Barbaric Blood, later this year.

Ukranian black metallers BALFOR has announced their signing to Pulverised Records. Self-described as as "barbaric black metal" that explores themes from their country's warrior past, the band's recently completed debut full-length, “Barbaric Blood,” is expected for release in early 2010.
Pulverised A&R manager Calvin Chiang comments, “BALFOR are one of those bands that has pretty much the whole package: Top-class musicianship and excellent songwriting prowess that perfectly describes their brand of darkened black metal. It is our pleasure to be working with BALFOR on their debut album. Expect nothing less than killer headbanging riffs blending together with the atmospheric feel that is ever so essential in black metal.” More...
Ukrainian Black Metallers Balfor have added a second guitarist to their original three-man line up. Former Unerase guitarist Agnarr has started rehearsing with the band and according to vocalist/guitarist Thorgeir is already up to speed with Balfor’s material. “Agnarr is a highly trained and skilled guitarist, with a real instinct for music, so he got the feel of what we wanted straight away”, said the front man. “When we were recording material for our new album, we realized that the fuller sound we had developed was going to need an additional guitarist in order for us to be able to reproduce it live. It also takes some of the pressure off me on stage. Singing and playing at the same time is one thing, but when you want to give the audience a less static show, and communicate with them at the same time, it doesn’t always work too well, so a second guitarist is the perfect solution for us."
Ukrainian Black Metallers BALFOR have made available for streaming their cover version of SATYRICON’s "K.I.N.G." The track, which the band recorded at the Blacklight Studio in Kiev, will appear on the “Dominions of Satyricon” tribute CD that is due for release shortly on the Empire Records 606 label. Front man and guitarist Thorgeir commented “I have a lot of respect for SATYRICON’S work, and 'K.I.N.G' is probably one of my favourite tracks of theirs, so I was really keen to get involved in the project. We didn’t want to record a straight copy, and I think the style we chose to use for the guitar break probably makes it a little more “metal” than the original, and I’m sure there will be the usual armchair critics ready to criticise us for our version, but what the hell, we all had a great time making it!”
Returning to BALFOR in time for the recording of 'K.I.N.G' was the band's original drummer Erland, who had previously left to concentrate on other projects. “It’s good to have Erland back in the ranks” Thorgeir went on to say. “We were very lucky that he became available again at the right time to take over from the departing Vortigern. Vortigern is a great drummer and a good friend to the band, and his work on the new album is very much appreciated, but he wanted to move away from the style of music BALFOR plays, and into something completely different, and we wish him every success for the future”.
The band is in the process of adding the finishing touches to their first full-length album “Barbaric Blood,” and will shortly be looking for a conventional label for its release, having previously released their 2006 “Pure Barbaric” EP via the internet. "K.I.N.G," together with two preview tracks from the new album, are available for streaming on BALFOR’s MySpace page.
Ukranian black metal horde Balfor are streaming online the song "Behold My Hate" from their upcoming album "Barbaric Blood". The song can be heard on the band's MySpace page.
Balfor issued the following statement about their upcoming album:
Balfor, whose style crosses the divides between Black, Death and Battle Metal, and who define their music as "Barbaric" Black Metal, continue to explore the theme of their country's dark barbaric past in the new album, which, according to vocalist and guitarist Thorgeir, represents a considerable step forward for the band. "As we started recording the new album, we realised that the material actually required a fuller sound than the three members alone could produce, so we drafted in Alex Brilliant (who really lives up to his name) to do some of the guitars here and there, and we have added keyboards. The preview track gives a good idea of what we are aiming for, and we are very happy with the way things are progressing with the album, and so far fans who have heard the preview track, seem to like the direction we are taking".
Ukrainian black metallers BALFOR will enter the Blacklight Studio in Kiev on February 19 to begin recording their next full-length album, entitled "Barbaric Blood". The CD will be mixed and mastered by Borge Finstad at Norway's Toproom Studio (MAYHEM, BORNAGAR, ARCTURUS, VINTERSORG, EXTOL, ULVER, TRISTANIA).
"Barbaric Blood" will be the follow-up to the 2006 "Pure Barbaric" mini-CD, which the band released for free download on a net label. Tracks from the mini-CD can be heard on the group's MySpace page.
This time the band will be looking for a label to release the album in the conventional way. BALFOR's founder, guitarist and vocalist Thorgeir commented: "Our previous releases had been conventional, but releasing the mini-CD on a net label served its purpose very well. We needed to get more exposure and get more people to listen to our music, and for that it was perfect. But we wouldn't want to go along that route for a full-length album. We still believe the traditional way is the best." More...
