This week a new video from Sammy Hagar and Friends and a rock and roll hair flashback that goes way, way back. It’s been 25 years since the classic Sam Kinison version of “Wild Thing.” Putting these two videos together confirms what I’ve suspected: EVERYTHING has changed since 1988! More...
30 years ago the bands Anthrax, Metallica, Motley Crue, Pantera, Queensryche, and Slayer were formed. It was also the year many important hard rock/heavy metal albums were released, laying the groundwork for the eighties. Here’s a look back at ten of these classic albums in no particular order. Same as the “1986 M/F/K” edition there is a twist as Marry/Fuck/Kill rules apply. It’s as simple as it sounds. M (Marry) is a song you want to “save” and listen to forever, F (Fuck) is the song you get one more listen to and that is it, and K (Kill) is the song you want to go away and never be heard from again. In a recent interview with Eric Spitznagel of MTVHive.com, Sammy Hagar discussed topics such as his sexual escapades, doing coke until the sun comes up, and his belief that he was abducted by aliens. An excerpt from the interview follows.
Eric: Okay, let’s just cut to the chase. I’m just going to come out and ask it. Have you ever been abducted by aliens?
Sammy: I think I have.
Eric: What? Really? I was kidding. You seriously believe that?
Sammy: [Laughs.] Now you’re making me sound like a crazy person.
Eric: How is that crazy? I wasn’t there, I don’t know what happened to you.
Sammy: Remember the story in the book, where I have a dream about being contacted by aliens in the foothills above Fontana?
Eric: Yeah, yeah, I’ve got the page right here. “I saw a ship and two creatures inside of this ship… And they were connected to me, tapped into my mind through some kind of mysterious wireless connection.” You’re telling me that wasn’t a dream?
Sammy: That’s right. It was real. [Aliens] were plugged into me. It was a download situation. This was long before computers or any kind of wireless. There weren’t even wireless telephones. Looking back now, it was like, “Fuck, they downloaded something into me!” Or they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment. “See what this guy knows.”
Eric: And this actually happened?
Sammy: That happened. That friggin’ happened, I’ll tell you right now. Another thing happened when I was about four that I didn’t put into the book. One time I saw what I considered to be, well, at the time I thought it was a car with no wheels. We lived out in the country and I saw this thing floating across a field, creating this big dust storm. I threw rocks at it and shit. And I don’t know what happened after that.
Eric: You blacked out?
Sammy: I guess. I just have no memory of it. And that wasn’t a dream. It was during daylight.
Eric: I can understand your apprehension. Alien abduction is a tough sell.
Sammy: Especially back a few decades ago, when this stuff happened to me. I couldn’t talk about it because I didn’t know how to explain it. I didn’t understand the technology. But now I’m pretty sure it was a wireless situation. Either a download or upload. They were tapped into my brain and the knowledge was transferred back and forth. I could see them and everything while it was happening. There was a visual involved, almost like … I don’t know. [Laughs.] Don’t get me going!
Eric: If they were downloading something from your brain, I guess the joke’s on them. Unless they were hoping for the lyrics to “Rock Candy.”
Sammy: Oh yeah, I’m sure they were. [Laughs.] Montrose was a very special band.

This week we fast forward, picture the year 2020…have the past ten years been good to our aging rock stars? Let’s take a humorous look at what may be… More...
This week announced the official open of Feelgood’s Rock Bar & Grill, the new venture from Vince Neil (Motley Crue), in Las Vegas. Neil is by no means the first rock star to open a bar. For many years Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, as well as others have made the connection of booze to rock fans. However, what makes this particular opening special is the expectations set for decadence in a true rock and roll atmosphere. With a sound system fit for a stadium you will find live rock (including a house band), privacy in the V-rooms, and hosting after-parties for the bands Whitesnake and Judas Priest (already booked) Neil is introducing the future of rock bars. The question is who will be the next to follow this trend? I’ve broken down some of the potential favorites: More...
The "supergroup" known as Chickenfoot -- comprised of ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Joe Satriani -- have announced plans to release their first album.
The self-described "accidental" collaboration occurred as a result of jam sessions at Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Their self-titled debut will drop June 5, and comes complete with a "heat sensitive sleeve" which will reveal the cover artwork via touch.
Billboard.com repots that Sammy Hagar is the first signing to new Roadrunner imprint, Loud & Proud, which will focus on established artists. His label debut, "Cosmic Universal Fashion," will arrive on November 18.
Hagar was most recently signed to Rhino, which issued his 2006 album "Livin' It Up." The set has sold 52,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The track list for "Cosmic Universal Fashion"is as follows:
Cosmic Universal Fashion
Fight for Your Right To Party

Former Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar has said the following regarding Presidential candidate John McCain using the Van Halen song "Right Now":
"When I wrote the lyrics to 'Right Now' I intended them to inspire people to not sit around and wait for something they believed in but to go out and get it ' to make a change however they needed to," he said in a statement. "Whether it was McCain who used the song or if Obama had chosen to use the song, with the current political climate, the lyrics still have the same meaning, and we all need to do something to make a difference, every action counts. In fact, I still feel so strongly about this that I wrote a new song "Cosmic Universal Fashion" with a young Iraqi musician in an attempt to motivate a new generation to the same affect. I am pleased to be associated with the lyrics to my original song and the new one in hopes that both will make people move to make a difference."
TheDay.com has issued the following report:
A Vernon man struggled with state police and was ultimately subdued with a Taser Sunday after security guards saw him smoking marijuana at a SAMMY HAGAR concert at Foxwoods.
Raymond M. Croke, 30, of 32 Ridgewood Drive, was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer, and being a fugitive from justice, based on an oustanding arrest warrant from the state of Washington.

MAD ANTHONY EXPRESS will perform both early VAN HALEN songs and various early rock classics; the support act, LOS TRES GUSANOS will play early Sammy Hagar songs; and, finally, Hagar and Anthony will perform as THE OTHER HALF — as in "the other half of VAN HALEN" — to perform Hagar-era VAN HALEN tunes.
