The organizers of the ProgPower USA festival have announced a surprise headline set for this year's sold-out edition of the internationally renowned festival. Saturday night (October 6) will now finish with an all-star cover set featuring vocalists from both the showcase and the festival. Each vocalist will be given the opportunity to perform 1-2 cover songs of their choice with the music being provided by the members of PAGAN'S MIND. Additional guests will join them throughout the set.
"The fans have made this festival a success and it's time to give something back to them," said ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston. "I wanted to announce this after the sell-out as a reward instead of in advance as an incentive. It's going to be one hell of a party on stage."
As a result of the additional performance, there has been a major change in the schedule and door times. "I had to shake things up quite a bit to make this work," Harveston explained. "However, the fans can relax knowing that not one band will have a single minute cut from their previously announced set lengths."
Century Media announce the signing of montreal's The Agonist:
It is extremely rare to find an up-and-coming metal band taking strong political stands, much less one that’s led by a dominating, beautiful, edgy female. But it is exactly this unique dynamic that led Century Media Records to sign Montreal’s THE AGONIST (formerly The Tempest) to a worldwide deal. This quartet delivers introspective, scathing lyrics, and their debut album Once Only Imagined, which is set for a summer release, will definitely catch people’s attention.
Vocalist Alissa White-Gluz’s vegan roots fuel her need to promote the protection of the planet and its inhabitants, and she does so through this outlet. Along with guitarist Danny Marino, bassist Chris Kells and drummer Simon McKay, each member brings their own rich musical backgrounds to the table, creating the perfect expression of melody and madness. Make no mistake, this is a straight-up metal band that holds nothing back with one goal in mind: to make music that is as catchy as it is heavy; as sweet as it is loud; and as angry as it is melancholy. Be sure to visit www.myspace.com/theagonist for new photos and new tracks. A new track, “Rise and Fall,” also appears on Century Media’s free spring sampler.
Alissa states: “We were definitely intrigued when Century Media took notice, simply by chance, after hearing a few unmastered tracks of ours. This partnership with Century gives us the platform to say what we need to say and do what we need to do, and that is promote and educate the public on some fundamental causes that are quickly being forgotten, voiced through provoking music that carries the message home.” More...
SONATA ARCTICA lead vocalist Tony Kakko and keyboardist Henrik Klingenberg will host a listening party for their new album, Unia, at Lit Lounge (93 Second Avenue - between 5th & 6th Streets) in New York City on Monday, April 2nd. Scheduled for North American release on May 22nd, Unia will be played in its entirety on the Main Floor between 8 and 11 p.m. A 21 & Over event, admission is FREE, and Vice TV will be on hand to interview fans in attendance. Tony & Henrik will also be Guest DJs at the club.
Checking in from his home base in Kemi, Finland is Tony Kakko:
"'Unia' means 'dreams' in our native tongue Finnish. I reckon we are not gonna have much time to sleep & dream 'cause we will be actually LIVING ours in NewYork City, USA! Can't wait! Finally, the fifth studio album we've worked our asses off for is ready and we could not be any happier with the result! The sound is so full and warm, heavy while being gentle... The production is so much bigger than on any other SONATA ARCTICA album with choir, strings, and all sorts of weird instruments, like the bouzouki [a stringed instrument with a pear-shaped body and very long neck], to mention one. The only fear I have is that all the people who listen to 'Unia' will not be able to pick up everything we've knitted in there, 'cause the whole album is so full of little details. This album will open and open and open up more and more with each listen - like a good novel or a movie - and really stand the thousand spins that people want to give the album. I've lived with this music for almost 2 years now and you'd think I'd be bored with it by now, knowing all the tiny details there, but no! This rollercoaster ride still gives me a rush! You'd need to be me to know how great it feels. So I've tested it for you. It's safe. Just sit back and enjoy! Henrik and myself will tour the world meeting you all, partying with ya all, walking you through 'unia.' North America, ready or now, here we come - and beware, 'cause I'm bringing Henkka with me... HAHA!"

Machine Men are happy guys these days. The young Finns earned great reactions during their performance at Earthshaker Fest last weekend and made a lot of new friends. What´s happening right now in the official Finnish single charts can easily be described as little sensation: the single “Falling”, taken from the upcoming album “Elegies”, is still in the top 20 on position 17 in its third week. Wow!
Machine Men will be performing on Wacken Open Air 2005 (Saturday, August 6th, W.E.T. Stage at 16:15 CET to 17:00 CET) to convince the metal fans with another brilliant show. All the metalheads who are not able to join this huge event will get their chance to catch up our newcomers on stage soon, as Machine Men are confirmed as support for Sonata Arctica on their European tour.
