Below is our complete Alcest news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Damnation Festival veterans Anaal Nathrakh will return to lay waste to Leeds this year for the sixth installment of the UK festival. They'll be joined by French experimental duo Alcest, the synth driven mathcore of Rolo Tomassi, and Fukpig, who make their Damnation debut after a performance at Deathfest earlier this year. The latest additions join the already confirmed The Dillinger Escape Plan and reformed Earthtone9 with many more bands to be announced across three stages.
Festival director Gavin McInally commented: "No band - not even the mighty Carcass - has been requested to return to Damnation Festival by the fans as often as Anaal Nathrakh so it's a pleasure, and a relief, to be able to make that happen. In contrast to the aural chaos of Nathrakh, Alcest will bring a touch of French sophistication to proceedings with their haunting, black metal inspired shoegaze. Rolo Tomassi are one of the rising stars of the current UK metal scene and it's great to be able to host their energetic live show this year. As for Fukpig, well the devastation at Deathfest is responsible for their return!"

LES DISCRETS, the solo project of Fursy Teyssier (Alcest, Amesoeurs), is currently residing at Drudenhaus studio, France, to record his debut album. Fursy: "We finished the recording by the end of last week, and the album sounds reeeallly reallly good. Definitely something to look forward to for you! The album gathers songs that were composed spanning the last years, starting from 2003 to February 2009. This is a collection of the best songs I composed so far!"
The release of the yet untitled album is tentatively scheduled for autumn 2009 via Prophecy.
From July 27th, Alcest will be in Markus Stock's Klangschmiede Studio E for three weeks to record the follow-up to their debut album, "Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde." Mixing and mastering will be done in September at French Drudenhaus Studio. The new, as-yet-untitled record, will consist of six tracks - including new versions of both songs from the deleted EP, "Le Secret," and clock in at around 55 minutes.
Les Discrets, the solo project founded by Fursy Teyssier (Alcest, Amesoeurs) in 2003, steps forth from its Myspace existence into the light of day.
"'Les Discrets' (engl.: the discreet ones) are those creatures that live in nature and who bring nature to life, the ones who make the leaves move, who put dew on the flowers each morning, who throw the pollen in the air ... That's a parallel life that we are not able to see, but that many of us can feel. The project's concept is pervaded by this perception of nature as well as my existential questions, especially about the feelings of love and death, as I always found a parallel between nature and human life and love," Fursy outlines the concept of Les Discrets.
Les Discrets has just signed a five-album contract with Prophecy Productions. The release of the project's as-yet-untitled debut album is tentatively scheduled for autumn 2009.
France’s AMESOEURS (featuring Neige of ALCEST and award winning animation filmmaker Fursy Teyssier of LES DISCRETS) has completed work on their debut album, simply titled “Amesoeurs.”
Amesoeurs' self-titled debut full-length is being released in North America by Profound Lore (Code666 in Europe), following the band’s highly praised and acclaimed 2007 “Ruines Humaines” EP.
Formed by Neige and vocalist Audrey Sylvain in 2004, Amesoeurs is a bleak, violent, melancholic, suffocating, desolate vision, one brimming with negativity and despair. Through their music, Amesoeurs portray a world of urban decay, a lifeless wasteland and a dark realm that becomes all too real in an age of social decay.
By mixing elements of harsh melancholic black metal, post-punk and ‘80s new wave influenced heavily by acts like JOY DIVISION, early CURE, and DEPECHE MODE, “Amesoeurs” is an album that mixes elements for each of the aforementioned genres into one mind-numbing and unrelenting sonic journey where each song translates into a different expression which all weave together.
The tracklisting for “Ameoeurs” is as follows: More...
Profound Lore Productions has announced that they will be releasing the North American edition of the new album from France’s ALCEST, ‘Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde.’ The label goes on to describe the deal and Alcest's debut full-length album:
"In co-operation with Prophecy Productions, Alcest has been a band that we’ve been quite obsessed (and that’s lightly putting it) with for the last while, especially considering we’re great admirers of pretty much anything sole-mastermind and multi-instrumentalist Neige is involved in (be it in PESTE NOIRE, MORTIFERA, and more recently the wonder known as AMESOEURS)."
"Nevertheless, with Neige being one of the most accomplished musicians within France’s black metal scene, he has already made an immense impression with Alcest from the first demo (which was pretty much nestled in black metal and was Neige’s first plunge into the genre likewise), to the magnificent debut EP ‘Le Secret’."
"Although ‘Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde’, Alcest’s long-awaited debut full-length, treads much further from Alcest’s black metal origins, the pure expression that has defined Alcest - and Neige as a musician - flourishes in full-force with this moving and emotionally driven work. To listen to ‘Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde’ (which translates into Memories Of Another World) is to experience a world free of pain, darkness, and despair, and to enter a kingdom of beauty and harmony. The scenario that such an album paints is one where pure joy and happiness triumph through waves of intense cascading light, where innocence prevails, and where the longing for nostalgia reigns supreme. The best way to describe ‘Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde’: overwhelming."
The tracklisting for “Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde” is as follows:
1. Printemps Emeraude
2. Sounvenirs D'un Autre Monde
3. Les Iris
4. Ciel Errant
5. Sur L'autre Rive Je T'attendrai
6. Tir Nan Og
Look for ‘Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde’ to be released in North America early-mid August.
You can hear some material from the band's forthcoming album on their MySpace page and/or download and MP3 of the track "Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde" here.
