Jonas Renkse To Guest On New Pantheon I Album

Katatonia vocalist Jonas Renkse will contribute guest vocals on a track on “Worlds I Create”, the forthcoming album from Norwegian Extreme Metallers Pantheon I. “Jonas and I have been friends for some years now”, explained Pantheon I guitarist and front man Kvebek. “We both like the extreme and the melodic, and often talk about our musical visions, so I asked him if he would like to do some guest vocals on the new album, and he agreed straight away. The track we chose was 'Ascending', and his voice is perfect on it, awesome, in fact. It adds a new soaring dimension to the whole sound.”

“Worlds I Create”, the band’s third full-length album, will be available on Candlelight Records at the end of July.

Katatonia Issues New Recording Update

Katatonia has issued the following recording update:

“It has been play time down the rathole! Like kids in a toy store we lined up a wide arsenal of analogue and digital pedals for any needs. We brought out all kinds of different effects to color both clean and dirty guitar parts as well as fx leads and anything in the twilight zone between guitar and synth sounds. Sometimes we've been wanting to go for a old broken 70's sound, maybe spiced with old analoge pedals such as Sovtek's Small Stone pedal that was built in the shell of an old landmine. Multieffect pedals such as the flagship in TC Electronics G-System, just as the Boss GT-3, my old companion for the last 10 years has been up and running to provide some of my custom settings maybe for the last time... From Guyatone, Seymour Duncan and Electro-harmonix we used various tube pedals such as a couple of overdrives, reverbs, stereo delays and tremolos and compressors. No need to put your trust in plug-ins, if you can have the real deal in hardware.

"On the amplification side we explored the clean channels of both the Alligator and Mr. Hector amps and the good ol' rectifer together with Celestion equipped speaker cabs from Laboga. Great thick, full clean tone.

"Instrument wise, the active emg's has done it's work and for the clean guitar parts we have been through various passive single coils, split humbuckers or a combination of both on a bunch of different top of the line guitars. More...

Katatonia Issues Recording Update

Sweden's Katatonia has issued the following studio recording update:

"After the midsummer weekend, it was time to get back to biz. The recording facilities down in Varberg were changed to David's own Ghost Ward studio (off the record referred to as 'the rathole') which is located in a suburb north of Stockholm. This week's schedule was rhythm guitars, so I stepped into the picture together with Jonas and David to find a heavy distortion sound to fit Daniel's great drum production.

"We recently entered a brand new collaboration with with Laboga amplifiers from Poland and we endorse both their Mr Hector and Aligator models. Obivously, the entire Monday was spent fooling around with different configurations of mics, speakers and knob settings. In the past, this procedure could very likely end up taking more than one day, but this time we found the 'sweet spot' pretty much right away. More...

Katatonia Releases New Studio Diary

Katatonia has issued the following report from the studio:

"The last cymbal hit of the drum session still ringing in my ear... I have a very good feeling about the whole thing. The playing first and foremost, and the sound is beautiful, the acoustics are ace! Plus we won't have to listen to nothing but drums 10 hours a day anymore. Daniel should be proud. We haven't had the time to do anything else as we're on a pretty tight schedule with this album. We saw some horses the other day and we celebrated David's birthday with cake, beer and various medications and oh, our new collaborator Frank Default (more known as the creative force behind the previous single's remixes and 'Unfurl' production) came down to help edit some of the drums and made sure we didn't fall behind schedule. So the time has come to wrap up and get outta here. Feels good to have a few days at home in Stockholm and celebrate midsummer. Next week we'll move on to rhythm, lead and clean guitars. The foundation of darkness is now rock solid."

Katatonia Issues Studio Recording Update

Katatonia front man Jonas Renkse has issued the following studio recording update:

"After a long nocturnal car ride through heavy rain and on frog flooded roads, me, Daniel and David (recording engineer) finally found the lonesome path leading to a studio pretty much located in the middle of nowhere. We got the gear into the studio, had a quick lookaround and were then heading for bed. Both me and Daniel were (are) sick and since drugs are a big part of rock 'n' roll lifestyle we went through our medicine stash and found a big bottle of cough surpressing stuff that would also provide extra good sleep... yummy.

"Day two was all about getting the drums up. Provided with a beautiful orange Gretsch kit Daniel started to play around with his setup. It took some time. Putting up all the microphones took some time as well. By midnight we could finally hear the sound of the drum kit through the studio monitors. More...

Katatonia Recording New Album

Katatonia has issued the following announcement about preparing to record their upcoming 8th studio album:

"We've been very busy lately writing and completing the material for our 8th studio album and we're proud to announce that Katatonia will enter the studio this summer, starting in a studio in the south of Sweden with drums courtesy of Daniel on June the 10th. We'll then continue on the remainder of the sessions in a studio here in Stockholm further through july and wrap it up in august.

"We'll keep the info short for now as we'll launch a studio diary to give you all the in-depth information and details on the album making incl album/song-titles, audio teasers, album artwork and also our tour plans along the recording process. We can already confirm that initially 13 tracks will be recorded and a selection of 11-12 songs will make it onto the album. We got a few big surprises to reveal and we're confident this material is our most varied, diverse and possibly strongest shit all together on one and the same album. The release date is set for late October on Peaceville."

Bloodbath Return to The Studio

Guitarist Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström of the Swedish death metal "supergroup" BLOODBATH has issued the following update:

"BLOODBATH just spent the last week at Park Studio in Stockholm where Axe [drummer Martin 'Axe' Axenrot] put down an (un)healthy doze of all the basic ingredients and more to get this death metal monster meal cooking in hell's oven. We're talking classic old-school skin-pounding, furious blast beats, double-bass drums, all kinds of tempos and a heavy load of killer fills, yeah you name it… This time it turned out to be 11 brand new songs on the menu for the band's still-untitled third album."

"So what direction does the material take this time? Well, it's definately taking off where we left with 'Unblessing The Purity'. The material represents nothing but hateful brutality, so there's surely a lot of speed countered with heavy groove. Riff-wise, we're playing a lot with dissonant harmonies for that feverish possessed feeling, but we also brought back the whole melodic yet haunting 'bee-swarming' theme concept from the past albums to represent the classic sound, so there's definately gonna be a good deal of variety on here which we hope to pack together in the most crushing production yet."
