Gus G. comments on Firewind’s return: “So the time is finally here! We are just about to fly over to North America for the ‘Tyranny and Bloodshred’ tour and we're really excited. We're grateful to return to U.S. soil only a few months after our maiden tour, and this time Apollo (vocals) is on board with us. Ex-Divine Heresy Singer Explains Split
Former Divine Heresy vocalist Tommy Cummings has spoken with MetalInjection.net about his split with the band aswell as an insight to what you can expect from him in the future. You can check out the video below. More...
Divine Heresy Vocalist Fired From Band
Dino Cazares', best known for his time with Fear Factory, band Divine Heresy has fired their singer Tommy Cummings. Headbangers Ball has posted the following blog with quote from guitaist Cazares:
"He gave us 10 different reasons why we should stop — 'My microphone doesn't work, I got diarrhea, the monitors are fucked up' — whatever he could think of. We decided that's not fair to the fans. We wanted to give them a full show."
In part, the other members of Divine Heresy decided to finish the gig because they didn't think Cummings was being honest about why he wanted to cut the set short. "We felt that he wanted to end the show early to go hang out at the New England Metal Fest, which we were supposed to be performing at the next day," Cazares said.
But when Divine Heresy blasted into the next song, Cummings became unglued. He tried to pry the drumsticks from Tim Yeung’s hands, then he shoved Cazares, knocking him down. "The venue has a weird step onstage, and I hit the step and fell after he pushed me," Cazares said. "He just caught me off balance. It was extremely unprofessional, and, in my head I just knew it was over with him."
The Poughkeepsie incident was the final straw in a relationship that had grown increasingly strained over time. From the start, Cummings' hardcore and hip-hop background clashed with the rest of the band’s brutal death metal orientation, and as the lead singer, he seemed to see himself as the leader of the group even though the band was formed by Cazares. "He's a big, intimidating guy and he knows how to use that to his advantage," the guitarist explained. "We didn’t agree on a lot of things and we thought it was better that he left."

DIVINE HERESY — the new Los Angeles-based band featuring former FEAR FACTORY/current ASESINO guitarist Dino Cazares alongside drummer Tim Yeung (ex-VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL), vocalist Tommy Cummings (VEXT) and bassist Joe Payne (ex-NILE, DOMINATION THROUGH IMPURITY, LUST OF DECAY) — has just completed its first tour of Australia, where the group performed with the likes of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, AS I LAY DYING and SHADOWS FALL, among others. "As the YouTube footage proves [see below], the crowds in Australia were amazing," says guitarist Dino Cazares. "It was killer to be able to play shows across the entire continent and to perform alongside a bunch of great bands and great friends."
The band kicks off a brief tour of the southwest this weekend when they play the DEVILDRIVER-headlined Texas Metal Fest in Houston, where Cazares will actually pull double duty by performing with both DIVINE HERESY and his other band, ASESINO. Shortly after the tour wraps up with a hometown performance — the band's first of 2008 — at the Whisky in Hollywood, the band will film a new video for the title track of their debut album, "Bleed The Fifth". Metalunderground.com's Best of 2007 Awards
Looking back, 2007 was an interesting year in metal. The year started off great for tours - here in the US and seemingly everywhere from the news we reported all year - and continued to offer strong showings throughout the entire year. However, we lost quite a number of brothers in metal in 2007. Despite that fact and the fact that there were few truly big releases in 2007, it still seemed to be a good year for metal as a whole - a year in which the underground got to shine through just a little more than usual.
That said, let's reflect on some of the things that made 2007 such a good year for heavy metal by announcing the Metalunderground.com staff picks from 2006. As in previous years, I've polled the entire staff here at Metalunderground.com about their favorite albums and performances of last year.
Here are the Metalunderground.com staff picks for the following categories: Best Metal Album of 2007, Best Metal DVD of 2007, Best Metal Newcomer of 2007, Best Live Act of 2007, and Most Anticipated Release for 2008. More...
All That Remains Finalizes Headlining Tour Dates
Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS has finalized all dates for the band's forthcoming headlining tour, which is slated to start later this month and will feature support from Chimaira, Five Finger Death Punch, Divine Heresy and Prosthetic labelmates Light This City. Divine Heresy will open the tour's first string of dates with Light This City taking over opening duties on Feb. 21.
"We are gonna be pulling out all the stops for this one," ALL THAT REMAINS frontman Phil Labonte previously said. "We're gonna have a far bigger production than we have ever had. I won't make any promises and we're probably not gonna play anything off of ‘Behind Silence.’ No time to teach old songs. We have a record to write as well as get ready for a tour. And it's gonna be a sweet tour!"
Tickets for ALL THAT REMAINS’ headlining tour are available online here. The band continues to support its latest effort, ‘The Fall of Ideals,’ which saw a July 2006 release through Prosthetic Records. Also recently released this past fall were a reissue of the band’s since out of print debut ‘Behind Silence and Solitude’ as well as the band’s first-ever DVD, ‘All That Remains Live,’ which features all the band’s music videos, footage from two live shows, behind the scenes footage, interviews with the fans and the band, and more.
