Ministry Announces New Album Release

Al Jourgensen will release his band Ministry's new studio album, "From Beer To Eternity," on September 6th via 13th Planet Records. This album will follow previous release "Relapse" (reviewed here) and pre-order info will be posted soon on Ministry's Facebook.

As fans of the band know, after last year there wasn't going to be another Ministry album, but as Jourgensen put it recently, "I had no choice."

Sessions for what would become "From Beer to Eternity" began last December at Jourgensen's 13th Planet compound in El Paso, TX with Jourgensen (who produced the album, composed the music and wrote the lyrics for all 11 songs), guitarists Mike Scaccia and Sin Quirin, drummer Aaron Rossi and bassist Tony Campos.

Rough tracks for 18 songs were finished on December 19th, and three days later, the 47-year old Scaccia died from a heart attack he suffered onstage while playing a live show with his band Rigor Mortis in Dallas, TX. Jourgensen, Quirin, Rossi and Campos were absolutely devastated.

"We have never, in the history of Ministry, ever had a tracking session like that before," states Jourgensen, "everything went so smoothly, it was surreal. And Mikey was so on fire and inspired, and really a driving force for this record." After returning from Scaccia's funeral in Dallas, and shouldering the weight of grief as well as the desire to honor his fallen comrade, Jourgensen locked himself in his studio with his engineer and co-producer Sammy D'Ambruoso for three excruciating months. Ministry Frontman Speaks On Guitarist's Passing

Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen has posted a message online paying tribute to his bandmate Mike Scaccia, who passed away in the early hours of December 23rd whilst performing on stage with Rigor Mortis. Jourgensen's message reads as follows:

"I just lost my lil' brother and my best friend. The 13th Planet compound is devastated, completely in shock and shattered. Mikey was not only the best guitar player in the history of music, but he was a close, close, close part of our family — and I just lost a huge chunk of my heart today. Our lives are forever changed. Life without Mikey is like orange juice without pulp — kind of bland. I have no words to express what this guy meant to me, my family, my career... everything!

"Get to know his lead parts, for they are in the pantheon of music! Unfortunately, most of you didn't get to know Mikey's soul, which is in the pantheon of humanity. He is my hero, my friend and my idol. Mikey was always beside me - my right-hand man - through thick and thin, the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful.

"Rest in peace my brother, my friend, my heart.

"Please pray for Mike Scaccia and Jenny, his wife and their children, and his family."

Al Jourgensen Collapses On Stage

Ministry has posted the following message online about Al Jourgensen being hospitalized after an on-stage incident:

"Ministry Front man Al Jourgensen collapsed on-stage during the live Ministry performance and was rushed to hospital via ambulance where he was examined by numerous physicians and diagnosed to have had a full-system collapse due to extreme dehydration and heat exhaustion intensified by the lack of ventilation on stage at the venue. Doctors confirm via blood tests conducted that Jourgensen’s alcohol blood levels were well below normal and no narcotics were found in his system. As a result, Ministry has cancelled today’s appearance at the L’Etaples France Rock en Stock Festival in order to allow Mr. Jourgensen a few days rest to recuperate and receive additional medical attention in Switzerland. Jourgensen fully intends to complete the remaining shows on the Ministry DeFiBriLlaTouR European leg."

Jourgensen extends his most sincere apologies to his devoted Parisian fans who displayed so much love, respect and concern for him before and after the Ministry show. Says Jourgensen: “I will make it up to you, somehow. I love Paris, I love the Parisian people. I’m so sorry …but, shit happens and the shit hit the fan for me last night.”

Ministry has been performing in support of new album "Relapse" (reviewed here), and you can also check out our show report of the band playing at the Tuska Open Air Festival.

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival 2012, Day 3

Day three was upon us, and the only thing that banished the gloomy weather was knowing that the day held a few favorites in store. For me at least due to a stubborn illness I caught only the biggest acts. With a healthy mix of folk metal, deathcore, and even some classically inspired loveliness Day three promised to be another rousing adventure in Helsinki for everyone who came out to enjoy.

Suicide Silence was the first act of the day. The energetic Americans started the day off with some epic stage presence and brutal death core that prepared our ears for what was to come this day. Usually I’m not into this genre, but these guys have the kind of energy that is contagious. Singer Mitch is unusually acrobatic for a front man and has the audience frantically headbanging and moshing as he seemingly defies gravity while singing.

Next up was everyone’s favorits cellists, Apocalyptica. There’s something about this band that just pleases everyone, form pretentious purists to the most brutal metal fans; these guys have a very wide fan base. Always impressive is the fact that these well trained musicians can get a clean sound from their strings, even despite the humid weather and rain which usually wreak havoc on acoustic instruments. It’s hard not to enjoy the enthusiastic act on stage when the music can go from lovely, to rageful from one beat to the next. Though I wouldn’t have dreamt it doable these guys run around, headbang and essentially violate their cellos with bows that drop horse hair all over the stage; all while emitting music that permeates the festival grounds with its torment. "Fix: The Ministry Movie" To See Release In April

"Fix: The Ministry Movie" will be released on April 10th, 2012. The following press release was issued about the movie:

"Raw and uncompromising, FIX is the story of the rock band Ministry -- hard living in the fastest lane, told for every fan, or merely the morbidly curious, whomsoever wished that just for a few nights they might have an all access pass into the belly of the rock beast --a chance to go behind that locked door at the back of the bus, and hang out one-on-one with whatever's lurking there.

"Embedded during Ministry's entire SPHINCTOUR in 1996, director Doug Freel and a single camera captured the band poised to take on popular music's title of 'Next big coolest, hardest, most bad-ass, thing,' but Al Jourgensen's legendary drug abuse had him teetering at the very edge of insanity, all the while still at the helm and steering both the Ministry ship, and his own physical and mental health, straight into the rocks.

"What started as a commitment of filming for a few days turned into the shooting of fifty-two successive shows in thirteen different countries. Within the first few minutes of the finished piece, we see why the filmmakers felt compelled to stay on the tour as we too are drawn into the mayhem and the anarchic drama of life on the road with Ministry. It's like watching a car wreck in slow motion... It's hard to look away. More...

Ministry Streaming Entire New Album

As we approach the official street date for the thirteenth album from industrial metal purveyors Ministry this Monday, March 26th, fans worldwide can stream all eleven tracks of the mutinous album via Metal Injection all weekend right here. The following press release was issued about the album:

"Following a dozen full-length releases over the past thirty years, and recently ending a four-year hiatus, from deep in the heart of Hell Paso Texas, Al Jourgensen’s Ministry rises against the political machine one more time with the release of 'Relapse,' the album boasting some of the band’s heaviest and fastest material in years, fueled by Jourgensen’s disgust at the world that surrounds us.

"The album strikes out with the no-holds-barred album opening track 'Ghouldiggers' aimed directly at the pitfalls of the industry he has survived over the years, from there segueing directly into one of the heaviest Ministry anthems in years with the crushing 'Double Tap' attack. Jourgensen has rallied with the Occupy Wall Street movement over the past year and recently released the riotous video for the raging '99 Percenters,' speaking out for the majority of the world’s oppressed populations against corporate corruption. Ministry Reveals "Relapse" Track Listing

Deep in the heart of Hell Paso Texas, Ministry’s Al Jourgensen re-opened the doors of his industrial compound studio in Fall 2011 and invited his favorite co-conspirators Mike Scaccia (Rigor Mortis), Tony Campos (Static X), Tommy Victor (Prong) and Casey Orr (Rigor Mortis/Gwar) to climb on board the Ministry pirate ship and de-construct and re-construct Jourgensen’s monsterpiece "Relapse."

Thirty years and twelve albums later, as well as a near-death experience in 2010, Jourgensen rises as a phoenix from the ashes with "Relapse" -- still angry, still political and very very pissed off. Relapsing back into the music industry after a four-year hiatus, Jourgensen launches his audio assault with “Ghouldiggers,” a no-holds-barred metal bullet aimed directly at the pitfalls of the industry he has survived. The following press release was issued about "Relapse:"

"Everything Jourgensen predicted on Houses of the Molé, Rio Grande Blood and The Last Sucker has transpired and as we approach the Mayan calendar of the End of Days in 2012, Jourgensen, re-invigorated by the global 99 Percenters and Occupy Wall Street movement, navigates through Relapse once again as a reluctant prophet accusing, dissecting, cajoling and exhorting greed, corruption and lies.

"Reaching back to his punk rock roots, Jourgensen and his MINISTRY pirates cover S.O.D’s 'United Forces' – a track written 20 years ago still relevant today as a call to arms for the unrighteous and to those who feel disenfranchised by the 'system' as it stands today.

"Sited as the driving force behind a cross-section of metal genres from industrial Nine Inch Nails to thrash artists Static X and Nu Metal’s Korn, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Limp Biskit, and receiving six Grammy Nominations for Best Metal Performance, Jourgensen returns with his greatest achievement to date with Relapse. Leave it to Jourgensen to make a comeback with a relapse. Check out video footage documenting the making of Relapse at this location."

The "Relapse" track listing is as follows:

1. Ghouldiggers
2. Double Tap
3. FreeFall
4. Kleptocracy
5. United Forces
6. 99 Percenters
7. Relapse

Ministry Signs Worldwide Deal With AFM Records

AFM Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of industrial veterans MINISTRY, one of the most innovative and legendary bands of our time. AFM will release Ministry's highly-anticipated comeback album Relapse in March. Prior to the album, MINISTRY will release a digital single, entitled “99%” on December 23rd, 2011 via the band's iTunes store.

Currently, Ministry mastermind Al Jourgensen is finalizing the last mixes on the new material. Al Jourgensen comments on the signing: "Our 13th Planet Record releases have been distributed in Europe via AFM through our partner Soulfood Music in Germany for several years now, and we have established a solid business relationship, so it made perfect sense to take the next step and have AFM Records come on board and be involved with the new Ministry release for worldwide and digital distribution. I’m pretty psyched about the collaboration, based on the response and enthusiasm I’ve received from AFM so far…"
