Hail Of Bullets Parts With Martin Van Drunen

Dutch death metal outfit Hail Of Bullets has parted ways with singer Martin van Drunen. The band issued this statement online via Facebook:

"We are sorry to announce that Martin van Drunen is no longer part of Hail Of Bullets. On a personal level it’s no longer possible for us to continue the cooperation with Martin. Unfortunately this means we have to cancel all upcoming shows until further notice.

"This does not mean the end of Hail Of Bullets. The main reason for starting this band 8 years ago was our mutual love for real death metal and to have fun playing our favourite kind of music and we did not want to lose this ‘fun part.’

"We acknowledge the fact that Martin’s a good singer with a distinctive voice but he’s not the only great singer on this planet. For the record, there's no hate or anger here, but this simply wasn't working out anymore.

"We wish him all the best in his future career. To be continued…" More...

Hail Of Bullets Streaming New Single

Dutch death metal giants Hail of Bullets have launched the landing page for their new album "III The Rommel Chronicles."

Pre-orders are available here, and you can check out the first single "Pour Le Mérite" in the player below.

"III The Rommel Chronicles" began to take shape in the second half of 2012 when Hail of Bullets started writing songs for this third album, which sees the band approaching things a bit differently lyric wise. Metal Blade Records comments:

"Instead of describing a certain campaign or theatre of war, this album focuses on the military life and rise and fall of German field marshal Erwin Rommel. Despite fighting on the wrong side, Rommel was undeniably a great strategist who was both feared and admired by his enemies. Musically, 'III The Rommel Chronicles' recalls a bit of their debut album. The songs are faster, more raw, more aggressive and direct than on 'On Divine Winds' which had a more epic, heroic feel. Once again, production duties were handled by Ed Warby and the album was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö. A new lyrical approach also necessitated a different style of artwork, which was provided by Dutch artist Erik Wijnands."

The track listing is as follows:

1. Swoop Of The Falcon
2. Pour Le Mérite
3. DG-7
4. To The Last Breath Of Man And Beast
5. DAK
6. The Desert Fox
7. Tobruk
8. Farewell To Africa

Maryland Death Fest IX Day Three

The ninth annual edition of the Maryland Deathfest has grown into a four day affair, spanning Thursday night, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Despite a last minute scare with Sonar possibly closing down, the even took place at Sonar, with the outdoor stages at either end of a closed off Saratoga Street.

This year, Metalunderground.com writer Emily Hingle (aka Buick McKane) was on hand for the entire festival (you can read her reports from day 1 and day 2) and Doug Gibson (aka deathbringer) was present on Saturday.

After an adventurous drive around the venue a few times trying to figure out how to reach the parking lot with Saratoga Street closed off, I finally arrived in time to see Creative Waste’s set. Sonar is a dark venue at any time, but entering from the afternoon sunlight, it seemed pitch black and took a few minutes to adjust.

Creative Waste took the stage and their sound was painfully loud. And they’re only a three-piece band, with a vocalist, guitarist and drummer - no bassist. The Saudi band described themselves as grindcore, but sounded more like a very hardcore influenced brand of metal. The music wasn’t my thing and the excessive volume that was not pleasant even with ear plugs sealed the deal for me.

Mammoth Grinder took the stage next, and I didn’t recognize them at first. The first few songs sounded a bit thin and reminded me of Prong, who while I enjoy, always had a weaker sound as a 3-piece. A few songs into their set, things got heavier and thrashier, evoking thoughts of Slayer. Then I recognized them as the band I saw at SXSW earlier this year. The remainder of their set was fast and heavy and made Mammoth Grinder the best band I witnessed on the inside stage that day. More...
