American sludge metal outfit Baroness will be appearing as the special guests on the January 29th edition of Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson's radio show, the Friday Rock Show. The program begins at nine in the evening and finished at midnight. British listeners can tune into BBC 6 to hear it or go to channel 0120 on Sky TV, channel 707 on Freeview and Freesat or channel 909 on Virgin Media. Fans outside of the United Kingdom can hear the show by going to it's official website.
BARONESS has announced the first dates for their European headlining tour in support of "Blue Record." This tour will kick-off on January 18th in The Netherlands, working its way through the mainland and UK. BARONESS sees the premiere of their first video from "Blue Record," for the track "A Horse Called Golgotha," online now via MySpace Music (and viewable below). The "A Horse Called Golgotha" video was shot in the band’s hometown of Savannah, Georgia with director Joshua Green for The Distillery Collective. BARONESS worked with Greene previously on the band’s "Wanderlust" video from "Red Album" that can be viewed here.
BARONESS is about to embark on a full U.S. tour in support of "Blue Record" starting on November 18th in Washington, DC. Guests on this month-long tour with include EARTHLESS, TORCHE, PIG DESTROYER, US CHRISTMAS, IRON AGE and more.
"Blue Record" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and #117 on the Billboard Top 200 during its first week of release. BARONESS’ John Baizley has announced the details for his first solo art exhibit. Presented by Metropolis Gallery in Lancaster, PA, this event will run through the month of November and for the first time contain original works available for sale. The opening reception will be held Friday, November 6th at the Metropolis Gallery. Additional details can be found here.
Baizley has created the artwork for all of BARONESS’ releases in addition to other classic albums such as PIG DESTROYER’s Phantom Limb and TORCHE’s In Return. The most recent release to feature his artwork is I Told You I Was Freaky by HBO’s Flight Of The Conchords. The few available prints John has made, most culled from album art, or specially made tour-only posters have all been hopelessly sold out, resulting in a fanatic fanbase competing for the precious available works on sites such as ExpressoBeans.com - putting John in the same rabid collector conversation as Shepard Fairey, Emek, and others. When you are at Mayhem Fest this year, you can visit the Revolver tent to pick up your free Limited Edition Revolver/Mayhem special mini magazine. The magazine is just like the regular Revolver magazine, only smaller. It is 42 pages and features 26 bands such as Job For a Cowboy, Anthrax, Darkest Hour, Baroness, and Dying Fetus. Savannah, GA’s Baroness has announced a month long North American tour alongside Clutch. The summer tour will kick off on July 9th and include a free show in Chicago, IL as part of the annual Kuma’s Corner Block Party.
Baroness has recently entered the studio to begin work on their second full length and follow up to 2007’s "Red Album." The band is working with the Grammy-nominated producer / engineer John Congleton (EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, THE POLYPHONIC SPREE, THE ROOTS, BUDDY MILES, BLACK MOUNTAIN) on the still untitled album. Relapse Records has issued the following announcement about Baroness preparing to record a new studio album:
"Savannah, GA's BARONESS will head to Dallas, TX next week to begin work on a brand new full-length and follow-up to 2007's critically-acclaimed Red Album.
"BARONESS will be working with the Grammy-nominated producer / engineer John Congleton (EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, THE POLYPHONIC SPREE, THE ROOTS, BUDDY MILES, BLACK MOUNTAIN) on the band's second full-length. The still untitled album is expected to see a fall 2009 release date."
BIRDS OF PREY's new full-length album, "The Hellpreacher," is currently streaming in its entirety at this location. "The Hellpreacher" saw its North American release on April 28th on CD and LP and will be released internationally on Monday, May 4th.
"The Hellpreacher," the follow-up album to last year's Sulfur & Semen, was recorded last fall at Sniper Studio in North Carolina. BIRDS OF PREY, who's members include those of ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY, BEATEN BACK TO PURE, BARONESS, and MUNICIPAL WASTE, recently posted the album's opening tracks "Momma" and "Juvie" as preview tracks on the band's MySpace page.
Georgia metallers Baroness have issued the following update about new dates and working on new material:
