Angra Discuss New Album

Brazilian melodic metallers ANGRA have posted the following message on their official web site:

"ANGRA is putting the very final touches unto its new album. The CD is going to be released in October and shall be the main event in the band's 15th anniversary celebrations.

"The name of the record has been finally announced. It's called 'Aurora Consurgens', which is also the title of an old book written by Saint Thomas of Aquin. Such book was used by Jung to establish relations between dreams and different mental conditions. Contrary to the band's latest album, 'Temple Of Shadows', the forthcoming effort is not a concept album. However, all lyrics do have a common theme: the various mental issues, including suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia, manic depression, sociopathy, etc. The artwork was once again designed by Portuguese artist Isabel de Amorim. Bruce Dickinson In Tribuzy Project In Brazil

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson is travelling to Brazil this week to play with friends in a special Tribuzy project. He met Renato Tribuzy a few years back and was very impressed with his music. They became friends and Bruce contributed the vocal on a song on his album. On this trip Bruce will sing on this song backed by his mates Roy Z and Chris Dale, both of whom he has played a lot with in the past.

Also involved in the project are Roland Grapow (Masterplan, ex-Helloween), Mat Sinner (Sinner, Primal Fear), Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Kiko Loureiro (Angra), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura).

The set will consist of Tribuzy songs, but it is likely that Bruce will pull on his own repertoire a little too at some stage...

Dates are as follows:

Nov. 12 São Paulo - Credicard Hall
1ov. 13 Belo Horizonte - Chevrolet Hall

The support act for the concerts will be Jeff Scot Sotto.

Live Report from ProgPower VI

The weekend of September 16-17th was quite a memorable one for me. I traveled down to Atlanta, Georgia from my New Jersey home to attend ProgPower VI. This year’s ProgPower consisted of Angra headlining Friday night’s show along with Conception, Orphaned Land, Circus Maximus, and Manticora opening. Saturday’s line up consisted of Stratovarius headlining, along with Therion, Pink Cream 69, Symphorce, and Stride opening.

During my stay, I was able to interview Mati from Orphaned Land and met Mark Edwards from Overlorde. Both guys were exceptionally kind, down to earth, as well as excellent guitar players and should definitely be listened to when the opportunity arises. Though Overlorde did not play, Orphaned Land did and put on quite an amazing show. During their set I found out that one of the guys standing in front of me was so dedicated to the band, that he flew all the way from Israel, where Orphaned Land is from, just to see them! What makes Orphaned Land such a band to command this response from a fan is the fact that they are very energetic on stage, quality musicians, and are able to bring everyone at the concert together. To see Orphaned Land is its own experience in itself. No matter who plays with Orphaned Land, the show will be memorable! More...

Angra Complete Work On New Album

Brazil's Angra have completed work on their follow-up to 2001's "Rebirth", tentatively due this fall through SPV Records (NTS Records in France). The band have posted the following message regarding the as-yet-untitled effort: "First of all, the songs are awesome! Really, really good! The production is perfect too, the sound of instruments is even heavier and clearer than in our previous albums. The band sounds more powerful and tighter as well.

"This is a very complex record, truly sophisticated. It's not just another metal album, it’s much more than that. The richness of the songs can be felt in the concept, the versatility, the spontaneity, the technique, the feeling and the emotions that flow throughout the whole record. It's easy to figure out our emotions in the tracks. It's a special thing, totally unconventional.

"The story is about the saga of a crusader knight that ends up disputing the expansionist ideals of the Catholic Church in the eleventh century. He is known as The Shadow Hunter. His way of thinking changes step by step until he gets to the point of beginning a new reforming order. There's a lot of things happening in his life and each song is a chapter of the story. It's amazing to follow the lyrics as you listen to the songs. Each situation is totally different from the other.

"Overall, this album is a bit longer than the others ANGRA has made so far. We tried to do something new and didn’t think twice about the possibility of experimenting. After all, we always focus in the artistic side and in what has been Angra's most striking mark since day one: ORIGINALITY!

"Today is July 14th and we are leaving for Japan. We'll meet Kiko there (he's going from Brazil) and the three of us are gonna promote the album. We're doing a couple of acoustic gigs, plus interviews, photo sessions and so on. However, we look forward to coming back to Brazil and showing to the fans what we achieved in the new album, ANGRA's very best in our opinion."

GAMMA RAY's Kai Hansen and BLIND GUARDIAN's Hansi Kürsch are among the guests confirmed to appear on ANGRA's much-anticipated follow-up to 2001's "Rebirth", tentatively due this summer through SPV Records (NTS Records in France).

According to an official press release from NTS, the as-yet-untitled effort "is a conceptual one. It tells a very interesting [story] developed by guitar player Rafael Bittencourt. The writing is extremely well done and the lyrics of each song are tightly connected to the others." As previously reported, much of the initial recording sessions for the new CD took place at Mosh Studios in São Paulo, Brazil under the guidance of producer Dennis Ward (SILENT FORCE, PINK CREAM 69).
