Maryland's open air metal camping party Shadow Woods Metal Fest today announces that Boston black metallers Lord Almighty will join the lineup this fall. Other newcomers to the fest include Germany's sludge masters Mantar, North Dakota's eerie Ghost Bath, Canada's frosty Numenorean, and New Jersey's Iberian folk-metalists Windfaerer.
The three-day event continues through the morning of Sunday, September 18th at Camp Hidden Valley, in White Hall, Maryland, about thirty miles north of Baltimore. Now in its second year, Shadow Woods Metal Fest strives to showcase the best in underground metal from diverse subgenres.
"Lord Almighty has a raw, fresh approach to black metal," says festival organizer Mary Spiro. "They display both aggression and beauty when they perform, and we are super stoked to have them!" Lord Almighty replaces Chicago's Empyreus on Saturday night.
Friday night headliners include Brooklyn's post black metal pillagers Tombs, Mongolian folk metal warriors Tengger Cavalry, Detroit's horror-death conjurers Acid Witch, and a special reunion performance from Philly's blackened doom two-piece Sadgiqacea. Saturday headliners include black-thrash alchemists Blood Storm, Pennsylvania death metal stalwarts Sadistic Vision, Maryland's doom metal godfather Scott "Wino" Weinrich with friends from Faith In Jane, and Long Island ritualists Teloch Vovin. Shadow Woods Metal Fest, the Mid-Atlantic's open air camping metal party, will once again terrorize the woodlands of central Maryland this fall with three days of more than thirty bands from diverse metal genres and regions.
The 2016 festival runs from Thursday, September 15th through Sunday, September 18th at Camp Hidden Valley in White Hall, Maryland.
"The response from performers and attendees to the 2015 event was overwhelmingly positive with many people telling me it was the best weekend of their lives!" says festival founder Mary Spiro of Metallomusikum.com/Shadow Woods Productions LLC. "We are humbled and frankly completely surprised by the outpouring of praise for the fest. There has been enormous interest from the metal community for certain bands to perform. Our team is taking its time to make sure the lineup matches our attendee's expectations and sets us apart from other fests. We also want each day to have flow. It's a balancing act."
Spiro says that when all is said and done, the final lineup will surpass the ferocity of the inaugural installment. As of February 9th, twenty-one bands have been announced, with more still in the works.
"It could be late Spring before we have the whole lineup in hand," Spiro said. "It's taking longer than we anticipated, but we think our patience will be rewarded, and festival goers will be really pleased with the bands yet to be announced." More...

Baltimore-based duo Darsombra has been slaving away for the past several months booking the most extensive tour excursion in the band’s history, and this week the final few shows are being confirmed. The following press release was issued about the tour:
"Set to begin in just two-and-a-half weeks, on February 28th, Darsombra will take their eclectic and nearly unclassifiable brew of ambient/avant-born noise/drone/psyche rock and synchronized visual performance out to nearly sixty American cities on the self-booked two-month trek! As always, the layered, looped riffs of bassist/guitarist/vocalist Brian Daniloski (ex-Meatjack, Trephine) will be transformed and looped over themselves in an ever-morphing flow of pedal effects and processors, building each song into epic, multi-layered soundscapes.
"Daniloski’s ill wall of sound be paired with cohort Ann Everton’s synchronized visual display, the artist’s organically-influenced backdrops and psychedelic patterns being broadcast directly onto the duo as they perform together, with Everton also supplying more synths, keys and other effects to the actual audio delivery of each performance more than ever on this tour." Following a recent break-in burglary of the Darsombra abode -- the thieves getting away with guitars, computers, amps, visual equipment and more -- the word made it to the proper parties in time and citizens/musicians/friends of the band helped track down and recover nearly all of the lost gear.
In a recent band newsletter, the members simply stated: "Watch out, world!!! This show is FREE because WE LOVE YOU and wanna say THANK YOU for all the love we received after our home was burglarized. So come on out and let us say it in person."
If you're in the area, please come celebrate the duo celebrate and give thanks. Darsombra will perform at Windup Space and will be joined by friends Yeveto, Height, and The Immortal Jellyfish.

After seven active years, from 2004 through 2011, and the last two spent on hiatus, Baltimore-based independent label Public Guilt is officially closing its doors this year. The following press release was issued about the closure:
"Public Guilt had a great run, having disbursed thirty-five unique and eclectic releases from some incredible artists including Aluk Todolo, Aun, The Psychic Paramount, Zu, Strotter Inst., Cream Abdul Babar, Destructo Swarmbots, Terminal Lovers, Darsombra, and many others.
"While we’re sorry to see the label coming to an end, we’re also excited to announce that Public Guilt is selling off its back catalog and many distro items at super low prices, with CD's starting at $1, 7"s starting at $1 and LP's starting at $5. Help the label clear out some space and explore some unique artists while adding a few pieces to your collection now while the stock lasts!"
Darsombra regretfully announces that the band's Baltimore home was invaded this week, the doors kicked-in, and all gear and equipment was stolen.
The band is devastated, as everything used to construct Darsombra's unique audio/visual works has been lost. The band is reaching out to the public for help in tracking down the perpetrators or at least the gear. Darsombra comments:
“Hi friends. We are saddened to report that our house in west Baltimore city was burglarized between 1pm-3pm on Wednesday May 29, and almost everything that we use to make our art was stolen. This is the latest and most complete version of our missing stuff (including some serial numbers where we could find them). If you see any of these items please contact us at our website." More...
Transcendental drone/rock outfit Darsombra will take its sprawling audio/visual live act on the road next week for the twelve city "Southern US Wintour" 2013.
Touring in support of the "Climax Community" LP, released in October via Germany’s eclectic Exile On Mainstream, the Wintour 2013 is set to embark on February 15th, with shows confirmed throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee.
Decibel Magazine is streaming "Climax Community" in its entirety at this location. The following press release was issued about the album:
"The three tracks on the LP traversing forty-five minutes of the outfit’s unique, slow-building, organic transcendental rock. Brian Daniloski, a veteran of heavier, sludgier, grittier rock bands such as Meatjack and Trephine, controls the sound of Darsombra, alternating between mammoth vocal swells and soundscapes and searing guitar riffs, leads, loops, and samples, combining elements of metal, psychedelic rock, experimental/drone, prog and krautrock. But there is more than just Daniloski’s sonic world at play here as video artist Ann Everton takes his work to the next level by bringing her Darsombra-induced visions to the stage through her kinetic psychotropic video projections, creating a constantly shifting backdrop to Daniloski’s live performances." Darsombra's "Eternal Jewel" CD on Public Guilt is now available at darsombra.com. This disc will not be in stores until April 29th.
"Eternal Jewel," the second full length album from Baltimore's Brian Daniloski, is a mix of improvised and structured recordings primarily composed on the baritone guitar. The tracks are best described as equal parts doom, psychedelic experimentation and 20th Century composition. From powerful and doom drenched sections to minimal and shimmering to aggressive rhythms that sound like a pounding string section, Eternal Jewel is some of the strongest material yet from Darsombra.
The packaging for this release features letter-pressed metallic silver ink on thick black gatefold sleeve with a six panel, art only booklet with two mixed media pieces by artist/package designer Stephen Kasner. You can check out the full layout on Darsombra's MySpace.
