Slough Feg is proud to announce the arrival of new drummer, Addison Filipczyk, who fills in following Harry Cantwell's departure.
Bassist Adrian Maestas comments, "After trying out drummers for a few months we think we've found the right guy. Welcome aboard, Addison!"
Singer / guitarist Mike Scalzi gave only a short list of the new drummer's vital statistics:
- Loyal Slough Feg fan since 2007
- Sharp wit / keen philosophical / linguistic intellect
- Corrective lenses necessary when drumming / viewing oversized metal chicks' asses
- Huge heavy metal fan, with tastes ranging from early Maiden and Priest to Budgie and Beethoven
- Corporate spirit with liberal incentives towards Slough Feg's prime directive
Guitarist Angelo Tringali couldn't be reached for comment, but his answering machine informed us that he was out in search of "a different lime and whiskey cola."
Addison will make his debut with Slough Feg on April 16th, 2015, at the Eagle S.F. in San Francisco. More...
The heavy metal stalwarts in Slough Feg have announced that longtime drummer Harry Cantwell will be leaving the band after the July 28th show at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco.
Cantwell has performed with the band for the past seven years, and on the last three studio albums "Ape Uprising," "The Animal Spirits," and "Digital Resistence." The band plans to begin auditioning new drummers as soon as possible. Interested drummers can reach out at the Slough Feg Facebook profile.
Vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi offered the following comment: "After almost seven years as drummer of Slough Feg, Harry Cantwell will be leaving the band after our July 28th show at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. We're sad to see him go, for he's been a great drummer and also truly great person, and of course we wish him luck in all of his future pursuits. Luckily Harry gave us plenty of notice, and also played fantastically at the last two shows in Minneapolis and Chicago--- so not a drop of bad blood here.
"I'm sure we'll all remain friends, and of course we'll continue to use Harry's talents as fashion consultant to the band after his departure. So come celebrate Harry's last show on July 28th at Bottom of the Hill!! Obviously this news brings up the question: what are we gonna do about a drummer? Well, we do have some stuff scheduled for a few months down the road, so we'll be auditioning drummers ASAP. If you think you're up to the task, then let us know!!!"

Slough Feg comments: "We're really excited to be hitting Europe again, especially some of those countries we've never played in before… like Italy, the land of Mike and Angelo's ancestors! Plus we're very happy to be sharing these shows with Norway's Magister Templi - one of the best newer heavy metal bands, and they're awesome guys to boot."
The "Digital Resistance" album was recorded with Justin Weis (who produced the album with vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi) at Trakworx in South San Francisco from January-October 2013 and marks the band's first new studio album since 2010's "The Animal Spirits."
Slough Feg will release new album, "Digital Resistance," on Tuesday, February 18th throughout North America.
In anticipation of this release, the band has partnered up with Pitchfork.com to give fans a chance to hear the entire album before it is released. Stream all ten tracks at this location.
"Digital Resistance" was recorded with Justin Weis (who produced the album with vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi) at Trakworx in South San Francisco from January-October 2013 and marks the band's first new studio album since 2010's "The Animal Spirits."
When asked if the new album was a concept album, singer and vocalist Mike Scalzi explained that "Digital Resistance" is a concept album in the sense that The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" is a concept album. "It has somewhat of a consistent lyrical theme that runs through several of the songs, but not every song--- it is not a concept album in the sense that our "Traveller" album is." More...
Slough Feg has launched the title track from brand new album, "Digital Resistance." The record was recorded with Justin Weis (who produced the album with vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi) at Trakworx in South San Francisco from January-October 2013 and marks the band's first new studio album since 2010's "The Animal Spirits."
When asked if the new album was a concept album, singer and vocalist Mike Scalzi explained: "It has somewhat of a consistent lyrical theme that runs through several of the songs, but not every song--- it is not a concept album in the sense that our 'Traveller' album is."
Check out the new track below, or pre-order the album over at this location. Mike Scalzi elaborates on the concept behind the title track:
"This song represents a last ditch effort to escape the inevitable. There will be no victory over technology-- nor should there be in a broader sense--- but I do fear what we are becoming. Biological evolution moves so slowly that we cannot perceive it. But social and moral evolution may come in great jolts or leaps. This can be dangerous to the preservation the species, biologically and morally/socially. But it's also just fun to sing about 'killing technology' (like that other band from Canada did a long time ago). It's a very dramatic subject. That's why I call it 'Voi-Vaudeville.'" More...
Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of Slough Feg, who's style is an eclectic mix of Celtic folk and traditional metal peppered with buckets of energy and lyrical depth.
On February 5th the label will be releasing three of the band's early releases that, until now, were only available as imports. "Twilight of the Idols" (1999), "Down Among the Deadmen" (2000), and "Traveller" (2003) will be packaged as a 3CD box set will also be made available on their own, digitally, via iTunes, Amazon, or your favorite digital retailer. Check out samples from these albums and preorder your copy right here.
Guitarist/vocalist Mike Scalzi comments: "We are very excited to announce that we have signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records for a new album, which we are beginning to record this month. The new material will be standard Feg-Fare--- that is, totally non-standard!! Of course there will be some galloping, rollicking, bouncing buccaneer riffs unearthed from the Voi-Vaudevillian vaults, and a touch of good-'ol misery and madness (not to mention more peevishly punctuated puns) in the lyrics. But this time there will also be a cavalcade of cacophonous crooning to add to the caterwaul, as well as the lavishly-landscaped luster of some majestic Morricone-esque riffs at which to marvel---perhaps a slight proto-American-West feel. So as usual, you'll just have to wait to hear it yourself!!!
"We are also equally excited (if not more excited!!) to announce that Metal Blade is re-releasing our second, third and fourth albums in the form of a bad-ass box set!! It's about time these albums were made available in the USA!!! They've always been imports in the past, but now you can get them all at once!!" More...

American heavy metal band Slough Feg has completed work on the band's follow-up to "Ape Uprising," which is entitled "The Animal Spirits." Vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi comments on the new album: "The title sounds like it could mean plenty of things, but really refers to an Aristotelian theory of perception that was somehow taken seriously until the mid to later 1700's (?!) Why this was I don't know, but it involves these bizarre fluid called ‘animal spirits’ traveling through a person's veins carrying information of what they have perceived, storing it in the heart, and then releasing it again when that thing is remembered. It really a primitive precursor to the idea of neurons firing in a chain, containing ideas. So that's what people will find if they do a little research about the title."
Going further into the themes of the album, Scalzi elaborates: "The content of the record is (subject wise) is not too far from usual SLOUGH FEG material. The first two songs are about Medieval Catholic theology. Then it switches to basic horror themes, a couple of songs about some insane person who thinks he's a vampire, and then a werewolf (inspired by the Gothic soap-opera ‘Dark Shadows’) then there's one of our weird ‘what if Dicky Betts of the Allman Brothers had joined Iron Maiden in 1980’ instrumentals. Then a few more songs about frustration, misery and madness, and a final fast, driving rock/metal number called ‘Tactical Air-War’, which will be sung by Bob Wright of Brocas Helm!”
You can listen to two new MP3s off the album, "The 95 Thesis" and "Free Market Barbarian" at this location. The album is set for a North American release on October 26th via Profound Lore Records. More...

The Noctis III Metal Festival in Calgary, Alta. is ready to unleash a two-day extravaganza of high-octane metal, and Canada’s first ever metal conference.

Some of the scheduled topics cover what it takes to get signed these days, tips on landing tours, how to get endorsements and distribution deals, how to promote your band, DIY recording, metal concert photography, and the future of metal journalism.
Following the conference is an 18+ club night showcase at one of Calgary’s premier metal venues, The Distillery, where headliners Novembers Doom, Slough Feg and Ares Kingdom will be sharing the stage with local acts Kilyakai, Norrath, Truck and Tosca, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The two-stage main festival on Oct. 3 takes place at the University of Calgary. “(It’s) another show in Canada, which tend to be great shows for us, and the promoters having a keen interest in us and what we do,” enthuses Cynic's Masvidal. “They asked us if we’d like to speak and discuss songwriting and our creative process, and I was completely open to that. I thought it’d be interesting, and just being part of a collective seems cool. One of our managers is gonna be there, the head of our label is gonna be there, so it’s kind of a team effort.”

Stereogum has premiered the viral version of The Sword's new video for "Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians." The video is set in a post-apocalyptic world, thousands of years after the end of human civilization. A new race is born - one that has no idea that man had once ruled. The directors, Mike Colao and Josh Litwhiler, used a technique called "rotoscoping", where they traced over live-action film movement, frame by frame. The result is a visually captivating look into what could be the future of the human race as we know it.
Yesterday also marked the release of the band's two-song, 10" picture disc. Although already sold out through Kemado, you can purchase the songs on iTunes.
