Century Media Celebrates 20th Anniversary

2008 has become an extremely exciting year in the history of Century Media Records, one of the world's most respected independent homes for heavy music, as the label is celebrating its 20th anniversary!

The company's Anniversary year started off with an extremely successful, first-ever yard sale/party at the Century Media office in Dortmund (Germany) in June, where several hundred guests partied out on exclusive live shows by Angel Dust and Turisas. A video with impressions from the event can be seen at this location. A photo gallery for this event can be viewed here.

To further celebrate this anniversary Century Media Records will release the very special 2CD compilation "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" on September 15th in Europe and on October 14th in North America. The various artists covers-release includes 32 mostly exclusive recordings and will be available in stores for the price of one CD. Sticking to the "keep it in the family" slogan, CM approached their artists about covering songs from other acts within the label's repertoire and the response from the musicians was overwhelming.

Some choices were obvious and homages to the bands that influenced them, others were inspired picks. This combination ended up leading to a heavily entertaining and truly special final result across all sub-genres of heavy music.

Never Say Die! Euro Club Tour Planned For 2008

The hugely successful Never Say Die! club tour will return this November in collaboration with Altamont Apparel.

Here is the planned Altamont Never Say Die! 2008 Club Tour line-up:

Parkway Drive
Unearth
Despised Icon
Architects
Protest The Hero
Whitechapel
Carnifex

The tour will be sponsored by Altamont Apparel, the innovative clothing brand which uniquely captures the youthful spirit of counterculture warriors - a perfect fit for those attending Never Say Die!. “Altamont Apparel was founded with music at its core, so we are both happy and proud to be the official partner of this tour” commented Scott Sentianin, Altamont Apparel. Marco Walzel, Avocado Booking, adds, “The link between punk, metal and hardcore with skateboarding and extreme sports/lifestyles has always been a strong bond. It makes perfect sense for Altamont to be a big part of this tour and I’m very happy to have them on board.”

The lineup will include PARKWAY DRIVE (Burning Heart Records) who have proven their headline status for this tour with their titanic barrage of riffs, breakdowns and high energy performances - as best evident on their many European tours (the last of which had the majority of their shows sold-out). Also no strangers to touring Europe, UNEARTH will join the tour as co-headliners in the UK and direct support in mainland Europe, and just in time as their brand new album on Metal Blade Records will be hitting the streets. DESPISED ICON have exploded onto the scene with loads of touring and have helped define deathcore destruction with a highly acclaimed new record on Century Media Records. The UK is represented on this tour by ARCHITECTS, recently signed to Century Media, who bring the chaos factor to the bill with their vicious metalcore assault. Bringing a flair for the technical and progressive end of the spectrum, PROTEST THE HERO have been lavished with rave reviews from the press for their new album and tireless touring. Rounding out the package are two up-n-coming brutal acts from the U.S. that are rapidly gaining steam and buzzing in the underground, WHITECHAPEL (Metal Blade Records) and CARNIFEX (Victory Records) who will both have new records in time for this tour.

“We’ve worked very hard to raise the bar for this tour,” says Ivonne Davies-Kreye, Avocado Booking. “It is easily the best line-up and will prove to be the best concert going experience of 2008.”

Here are the initial Never Say Die! tour dates: More...

Architects Singer Receives Death Threats

Architects frontman Sam Carter has received death threats from irate Bring Me The Horizon fans after uploading a video featuring a staged fight between himself and BMTH vocalist Oli Sykes. The video was filmed at an all-day event in Karlsruhe, Germany and shows Carter "kicking the shit" out of Sykes. The clip - which was uploaded onto YouTube - has been viewed almost 15,000 times.

"We're mates with the guys and were sharing a bus for the whole two week tour!" Carter tells K!. "The fact that people believed it was real is just so ridiculous! We filmed the fight about three times and even added in comedy punch noises and yet kids were still sending us over-the-top hate mail!"

"All-day events can get boring very fast so we conjured up the first idiotic thing we could think of and made it as unbelievable as possible," laughs Sykes. "Sam was getting death threats from kids off MySpace and at the same time getting praised for laying me out! We're sorry if anyone was upset by this although I'm sure most people reading this probably like the thought of me getting a punch in the face!"

The video can be viewed below: More...

Blessed By A Broken Heart Post New Songs Online

Canadian's finest, BLESSED BY A BROKEN HEART, are invading Europe in January and early February for their first full European tour with labelmates Maroon as well as UK darlings Bring Me The Horizon and Architects after playing a sold-out UK only headlining tour with Enter Shikari in 2006.

The group's unique, infectious brand of '80s madness is undeniable, and they deliver a plethora of balls-out, party rock anthems that are so catchy and infectious, they will soon be your new guilty pleasure. This Montreal-based six-piece have put the pedal to the metal and will storm over the Atlantic to steal all our booze and women while having the times of their lives.

Their sophomore, appropriately entitled album "Pedal To The Metal" is scheduled for a release in the spring 2008. The effort was recorded by GGGarth (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kiss, Motley Crue, Rise Against, Atreyu, Biffy Clyro, Nickelback, Rage Against The Machine, Testament) and mixed by Mike Hatalak from It Dies Today who also worked with Roses are Red and Dead Hearts. Sikth Parts Ways WIth Vocalists

SIKTH's FORTHCOMING tour in July under the 'This Ain't The Summer Of Love' banner will be the last with singers Mikee Goodman & Justin Hill.

The decision for the frontmen to part company with the North London troupe is an entirely amicable one, with Goodman leaving to pursue other musical activities, including his longstanding Sad Season project, another brand new outfit (based in Brighton) plus work on the production side. Hill, meanwhile, is going to focus on the production work that is becoming increasingly successful for him.

The remaining four members, guitarists Dan Weller & Pin, drummer Dan 'Loord' Foord & bassist James Leach, are now well underway with the writing of the third SikTh album; already they've amassed a great deal of fresh material guaranteed to further extend the boundaries of progressive metal music. Simply, the future for SikTh continues to be an exciting one.

Needless to say, SikTh is now on the look-out for a new singer or singers, and applicants should contact the four musicians at sikthmail@googlemail.com. More...

Architects Replace Frontman

Rising Brighton metallers ARCHITECTS will part ways with frontman Matt Johnson at the conclusion of their headline tour on February 3rd, 2007. He will be replaced by fellow Brightonian Sam Carter, formerly a drummer with hardcore crew Nervous Wreck and indie-punks This City.

Matt Johnson, who has fronted the band since its inception in late 2004, is departing the ranks for personal reasons on very amicable terms, and has issued the following statement via the bands website:

"The last three years in Architects have been absolutely amazing, some of the best times I've had in my life and I wouldn't change that for the world. I'd like to thank everyone for their support, it means more to me than any of you could ever imagine. I'm moving onto other things in my life and wish the band and Sam all the best for the future."

New vocalist Sam Carter, 18, has already made onstage appearances during the bands headline tour at Johnson's invitation; the two frontmen sharing the mic on the track 'The Darkest Tomb'.

But Sam will now be joining Architects full time as they enter the final stages of pre-production for their second album, the follow up to 2006's acclaimed 'Nightmares' debut. "I'm really excited about this year," says Sam; "I know the boys are looking forward to a fresh start, and Matt has been really supportive of me joining, which has helped a lot. I can't wait to record the new CD - it's gonna be incredible."

Architects will be heading into Outhouse Studios, Reading with producer John Mitchell (Enter Shikari, Funeral For A Friend) in mid-March to lay down thirteen, as yet untitled tracks for the highly anticipated new album, which is tentatively scheduled for release in June 2007.

Architects have also just unleashed their debut video. Created by Sitcom Soldiers (Devil Sold His Soul, Secondsmile, Circa Survive, A Wilhelm Scream), the video is for the track 'In The Desert', and is due to hit the national music channels this month.
