Swedish melodic death metallers, Soilwork have issued the following update regarding the addition of session gutiarist, Sylvain Coudret:
"As many of you may have noticed, we have a new session guitarist in our ranks- none other than mr. Sylvain Coudret of SCARVE! Sylvain's doing an amazing job so far and it's a blast to have him around. He is with us for our last three fests: Germany's Summer Breeze, Brutal Assault (in rainy Czech Republic from where I'm writing this) and Bloodstock in Derby, UK... so come and enjoy a little round of SOILWORK live annihilation this weekend!" French masters of modern dissonant thrash SCARVE have posted a new song, entitled "Endangered", on their MySpace page. The track comes off of the band's upcoming album, "The Undercurrent", which will be released this April through Listenable Records.
The follow-up to the group's critically acclaimed "Irradiant" album (2004), "The Undercurrent" was recorded in part at the Dug-Out facility in Uppsala, Sweden with renowned Swedish producer Daniel Bergstrand, whose previous credits include MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and STUCK MOJO.
SCARVE has yet to announce a permanent replacement for singer Guillaume Bideau who left the group in May to join the Danish modern metallers MNEMIC. The vocals on "The Undercurrent" were handled by former DARKANE singer Lawrence Mackrory.
"The Undercurrent" track listing:
02. Imperceptible Armageddon
04. The Plundered
05. Assuming Self
06. Fathomless Descent
07. A Few Scraps Of Memories
Danish modern metallers MNEMIC have tapped SCARVE singer Guillaume Bideau as the replacement for Tony Jelencovich (ex-TRANSPORT LEAGUE, B-THONG). As a result, Bideau has left SCARVE in the middle of the recording sessions for the band's follow-up to 2004's "Irradiant", which was previously expected this fall via Listenable Records.
Bideau joined SCARVE in November 1998 and performed on all three of the band's albums: "Transluscence" (2000), "Luminiferous" (2002) and "Irradiant" (2004). A replacement for Bideau has yet to be announced. You can download a full-length MP3 of the song "Mirthless Perspectives", taken from "Irradiant" here.
As previously reported, MNEMIC recently employed the writing talents of guitarist/producer Roy Z. for one song that will surface on MNEMIC's upcoming album, due out in early 2007. The talented and heralded guitarist and songwriter for TRIBE OF GYPSIES, as well as producer of such recent metal classics as BRUCE DICKINSON's "Chemical Wedding", HALFORD's "Resurrection" and JUDAS PRIEST's "Angel of Retribution", Z. collaborated on guitar recently with MNEMIC as the band prepare to start recording their untitled third album for Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented the band: "The track has turned out really good. You can hear the heavy mixture of Roy's along with the MNEMIC style.
"We've been a fan of Roy's work since first hearing his production on the DICKINSON and HALFORD albums, he always comes out when we are playing in L.A. and is a good friend of the band. We've actually never collaborated with other musicians before when it came to composing songs, so we thought we could combine some of his heavy grove with some of our polyrhythmics and make a song."
Phaze I, a new project from brothers-in-crime David & Frank Potvin (Lyzanxia) and long time friend Dirk Verbeuren (Scarve, Soilwork) signed a deal with Scarlet Records. The band just finished working on their debut album, mastered by Peter In De Betou (Rammstein, Marduk, etc.) at Tailor Made Studios and already described as the perfect mix of extremely powerful bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, At The Gates, Strapping Young Lad and, of course, Lyzanxia and Scarve. "Apocalyptic Metal" is the right definition for Phaze I's sonic holocaust. The album is expected to hit the streets on May 22nd. You can listen to the track "Stench of Their Flesh" on the band's MySpace page.
French metallers SCARVE have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We're currently adding the last bones to the rough skeleton of what will eventually become SCARVE album #4! About eight brutally groovy and savagely fast tracks are nearly complete now, and we have another three of four on the way, so it all looks quite ravishing here in our snowed-in rehearsal space in the Northeast of beautiful France. Dirk [Verbeuren, drums; also in SOILWORK] and Guillaume [Bideau, vocals] will head to Sweden's Dug-Out Studio next week to start tracking the drums with good ole' Daniel Bergstrand [MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, STUCK MOJO] at the helm. In the meantime, sassy dude Mattias Nilsson will help Sylvain [Coudret, lead guitar], Patrick [Martin, rhythm guitar] and Loïc [Colin, bass] to fine-tune the guitar and bass sounds which we're tracking at home this time. Vocals and mixing duties will be handled by Daniel sometime in June. Until then, we'll do our best to keep you posted right here with diaries, studio pictures, videos of us naked and other fun stuff!"
SCARVE's follow-up to 2004's "Irradiant" is tentatively later this fall via Listenable Records.
SCARVE's Dirk Verbeuren recently joined SOILWORK as a full-fledged member after having laid down the drum tracks for the group's latest album, "Stabbing the Drama", and touring with the group for the past couple of years.
SOILWORK vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"Maybe some of you guys have seen on Blabbermouth that we've cancelled the show on 'Aggressive Music Festival' in Glen Falls, NY. It came to our knowledge yesterday that our drummer Dirk Verbeuren can't make it to the show since he's playing a festival in Finland (Tuska Open Air) with his other band SCARVE and somehow his flight got cancelled and there was no other flights available that day … This really sucks and we really want to appologize for this, especially for such short notice..
"Mr. David Witte (ex-BURNT BY THE SUN etc.) will fill in for Dirk on the first show on Ozzfest. We're rehearsing right now and he's really doing an awesome job…
"We'll see you in Boston on Friday!!"
As previously reported, New Jersey's GOD FORBID will be taking the place of SOILWORK at the second annual Aggressive Music Festival, set to take place on Saturday, July 16 at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glen Falls, NY.
SOILWORK are currently promoting their latest CD, "Stabbing the Drama", available now on Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2003's "Figure Number Five" was recorded at Fascination Street studios in Örebro and Dug-Out Productions in Uppsala, Sweden with producer Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, STUCK MOJO).
Tuska Open Air Metal Festival has added more international and Finnish acts to the 2005 roster. The line-up is almost complete with only 1 more artist to be added for Saturday afternoon as well as the winner from the band contest at Rotonde-Festival, France, which is to be held later this spring. This year's Tuska-Festival is more international than ever, with nearly half of the artists coming from abroad. The evening clubs will most likely see some international action as well.
New additions in Finnish professionalism will be represented by Apocalyptica, whose cello metal is witnessed way too rarely on their native soil. Apocalytica just recently supported Rammstein on their European tour and appeared stateside on a few selected dates.
German precision and universal greatness is brought to you by the mighty Gamma Ray. The band last appeared on the bill at Tuska 2000 and have since built their fanbase by selling out club shows on a regular basis.
Other additions include up-and-coming death metallers Amoral, Finnish-singing Stam1na and Viikate, as well as Callisto who are about to embark on a European tour in a few weeks.
The search continues for one more, either domestic or foreign artist.
Ticket sales for Tuska 2005 start on Friday April 1st. Three-day ticketcosts 67 euro, one-day ticket 32 euro. Go to www.lippupalvelu.fi to purchase tickets.
Current Tuska 2005 line-up reads as follows: More...

In studio news, the whole band has been spending their time in the studio the past weekend, working on the bass and drum sound. The whole band, except for Klas, who is still in India on an intership. He is expected to be joining the rest of the band in the studio as soon as he returns home next week.
The actual recording process is scheduled to start Tuesday but the band have been working in the studio the last couple of days to start all the preparations. Also, Peter is being extremely careful with his wrists which also takes its time.
According to Peter himself though, the bass drum sound is already incredible (of course!) =) and his wrists are in very good condition.
After a series of very succesful festival shows at Fury Fest, Graspop and Dour fest, Scarve have begun working on the bonus DVD to be added to the "Translucence" debut album re-release due in 2005.
Drummer extraordinaire Dirk Verbeuren has started working on the drum patterns for the upcoming Soilwork album to be recorded in Sept 2004. Scarve are also currently in negotiations for a European tour as well.
Sweden's SOILWORK have announced that recently departed drummer Richard Evensand (now with Chimaira) has been temporarily replaced him with Dirk Verbeuren from SCARVE, who will be filling in as a session drummer for Soilwork's upcoming headlining tour in Europe.
Here's a quote from their website:
"Richard is an amazing drummer and we are very happy that we have had the privilege to play with him for the period of time that we did. Richard and SOILWORK have decided not to continue playing together and we have parted as good friends. We wish him all the best of luck with his future projects."
