Megadeth, Unearth, Kingdom of Sorrow Slay Mayhem

The heatwave scorching the U.S. has been following the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival from shed to shed and leaned on Boston hard as the mercury hit 105 on the Comcast Center tarmac in Mansfield, Mass.

But that didn't stop me and 15,000 or so fellow headbangers from slipping on our black T-shirts and standing in the blistering sun for 10 hours to get our fill of the biggest metal tour of the summer.

Most people in Boston were in the shade, a pool, the beach or some sort of air conditioned locale, but legions of soaked fans stood on the red-hot concrete for hours watching their favorite bands pay them back in spades.

As if it weren't painful enough to just be outside, the Boston crowd didn't disappoint the bands as pit after massive pit opened up across the venue. By the time Jamey Jasta, Kirk Windstein and the rest of Kingdom of Sorrow ripped into "Enlightened to Extinction," the outdoor stage area was a sea of sweaty, swirling, sunburned bodies. With security hosing down the masses, Windstein was a riff machine and Jasta - one of the hardest working dudes in metal - was on point, as usual. More...

Unearth Streaming Entire New Album

Alternative Press is hosting a worldwide album premiere of Unearth's upcoming "Darkness In The Light" full-length, which is scheduled to hit North American record shelves on July 5th, 2011 via Metal Blade Records. Head over here to check out the album.

The 11-track long player was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley (Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed).

Comments vocalist Trevor Phipps of the record: "This album is without a doubt some of the heaviest, most dynamic and memorable tunes we've ever written. The disc is littered with the shred 'n' stomp-filled songs our fans would expect from us, as well as some added vocal hooks, guitar melodies, guitar solos and some different paths taken in style and structure. We knew we had to continue to separate ourselves from the pack and to cement our place in the heavy metal world as one of the leaders and not as one of the many followers that seem to hop on the trend wagon and give up so easily when the going gets hard. We are here to stay and collectively we couldn't be any more fired up to play these songs around the world for our fans new and old. So check it out, spread the word of underground metal and leave some feedback. See you on the road!" More...

Unearth Streaming New Track "Watch It Burn"

Lambgoat.com is currently hosting the premiere of "Watch It Burn," the opening track off Unearth's forthcoming "Darkness In The Light" full-length. Vocalist Trevor Phipps comments:

"'Watch It Burn' is the lead track from Darkness In The Light because we felt it captured the aggression and heaviness of the album while also staying true to our core sound from our earlier records. This is one of the only tunes without a guitar solo, but the harmonies are there to mix around one of the heaviest choruses we've ever written. The song is angry, fast and in-your-face while also allowing for a melodic bridge late in the song much like some of our older material. Lyrically, it is an anti-extremist song.

"It attacks both the left and right of the political spectrum while also calling into question extremist religious groups and their influence on our culture. All these political and religious extremists seem to manage to do is splinter society and turn people against each other that otherwise likely wouldn't be at odds. Basically we can put aside some meager differences and work to better ourselves or we can keep heading down this destructive path and eventually 'Watch It Burn.'"

To hear "Watch It Burn," point your browser to this location. The band also previously uploaded the song "Ruination of the Lost" online, with details available here.

Unearth Posts New Song Online

MetalSucks.net is currently hosting the worldwide premiere of Unearth's "Ruination Of The Lost," the second track off the band's upcoming "Darkness In The Light" full-length. You can check out the song by heading over here. The band also recently posted another song online titled "Eyes of Black," which can be found at this location.

Commented vocalist Trevor Phipps: "'Ruination Of The Lost' is a pummeling front end album song that showcases our mix of both American and European metallic influences with an apocalyptic lyrical theme. Buz [McGrath] and Ken [Susi] both rip some serious guitar solos in the tune and their guitar harmonies are hauntingly catchy. This one is a high energy shredder while lyrically it speaks about the end of the human race in the not so distant future if we continue to destroy our planet with the current level of disregard year after year.

"It's hard for me to understand why people still let money and politics interfere with any real positive change even with the warning signs Mother Nature has given us. The title of the song refers to the self-destructive nature of the human race and how we are collectively so lost in our lust for money and power that we are destroying the world that gave us life in the first place."
