Unearth To Be Joined By Former Drummer
Unearth has announced that it will be rejoined by drummer Derek Kerswill for a one-off show in tribute to former band bassist Chris 'Rover' Rybicki, who passed away at the hands of an alleged drunk driver this past September. The show will take place at Saint Michaels Hall in Lynn, MA on February 19th. The band commented on the gig by saying:
"In an effort to keep the focus on recording our new album and to show everyone that we are still indeed friends with our former drummer Derek Kerswill and that our split was solely because of 'creative differences,' we have decided that he is the best fit to play drums for us at Roverfest this Saturday night.
"Both the band and Derek agree that this was the best way to end our chapter together while also paying tribute to our fallen friend and former bassist Chris 'Rover' Rybicki. So if you are attending the show on Saturday at St. Michaels Hall in Lynn, you will get a chance to see our last gig with Kerswill."

2011 Mayhem Festival Trailer Posted Online
A new video trailer has been posted online promoting the forthcoming 2011 edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. While no bands have been announced several sites are citing the following bands and acts that are rumored to appear: Disturbed, Megadeth, Godsmack
In Flames, Trivium, Machine Head and Unearth. An official announcement is expected shortly.
Unearth Recording New Album
Unearth has begun tracking the new album at Zing Studios in Westfield, MA. The band is currently tracking drums with sit in drummer for the album, Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed. "Foley was an obvious choice for this album for many reasons, but mainly because of his abilities and knowledge of heavy music as well as his long time friendship with the band," comments Trevor Phipps. "A decade plus of friendship has made this an easy transition for the band, Foley and our producer/engineer Adam D."
In other news, the band has decided to change the mixing engineer for the album to Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, White Chapel, Devil Driver, Trivium, etc...) from Audiohammer Studios.
Guitarist Buz McGrath added this irrelevant comment about working with Mark, "Mark Lewis mixed me a drink once and i woke up in a swamp covered in anti freeze."
Unearth is aiming for a mid to late June release for the album followed by a world tour.
Unearth To Play Benefit Show For Former Bassist
Unearth's first gig of 2011 will be a benefit show for their former bass player Chris "Rover" Rybicki, who tragically lost his life at the hands of an alleged drunk driver this past September. They will be playing alongside another one of Rover's former bands, No Choice, as well as Screams of Erida and Gasket. All proceeds will go directly to the Rybicki family.
Here are the show details:
Date: February 19th
Place: Saint Michaels Hall, 25 Elmwood Ave. Lynn, MA
Doors at 6pm.
Tickets are just $10 and only available at the door when doors open
More info can be found here.
Unearth Announces Producer For Next Album
Massachusetts metalcore veterans Unearth have revealed the producer hired to help in the creation of its as-yet-untitled new studio album. Unearth have teamed up, once again, with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz to help in the effort, which is currently planned for a mid-2011 release.
Unearth, which recently split with Derek Kerswill, has now issued the following update about recruiting a new touring drummer:
"Branden Morgan of Misery Signals will be helping us out behind the kit on our upcoming European run on the Persistence Tour. Branden is a great drummer and has been nailing all the tunes in rehearsal. Everyone headed to the Persistence Tour can expect Unearth to be as solid as ever during this run. See you all in a month!"

Unearth Parts With Drummer
Unearth has issued the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Derek Kerswill:
"After three plus years of touring the world together and playing on our latest album 'The March,' we have parted ways with drummer Derek Kerswill. The most notable reason for the split are the creative differences. The time has come for Unearth to write a new album and creating music with a tight unit is the only way we can assure the best collection of songs possible. The differences between Kerswill and the band started off as subtle, but became increasingly obvious over the past few months and it was time for both parties to go their separate ways.
"We have shared a ton of great experiences and achieved many of the goals we set for ourselves in the time he was in the band. There is no ill will from either side of this decision and we wish him only the best moving forward. Unearth won't skip a beat, though, as we will be announcing a replacement drummer for our upcoming European stint on the Persistence Tour shortly. Lastly some exciting plans are coming together for the recording to the follow up to 'The March' sometime early in 2011."
"Creative differences are real and unfortunately have gotten the best of me. I wish the guys luck in the future and thank you to everyone who ever loved + supported 'The March'," Kerswill stated.

Headline News
Former Unearth Bassist Passes Away
Massachusetts metalcore act Unearth has commented on the passing of their former bass player Chris Rybicki who passed away due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. The band commented by saying:
"Yesterday we lost our long time friend and original bass player Chris 'Rover' Rybicki. He lost his life from injuries sustained three weeks ago at the hands of an alleged drunk driver.
"Rover hadn't been in the band since 2001, but he remained a good friend to us all throughout the years and this tragedy has hit us hard. Not only was Rover a talented musician, but he was also one of the funniest dudes you would ever know. His wit, dark humor and don't-give-a-fuck attitude made him a unique person that we all loved having in our lives. His memory will live on amongst his family and friends with the countless stories of Rover being Rover. He will be sorely and forever missed. Rover played on our our EP 'Above The Fall Of Man', our debut full length, 'The Stings of Conscience', and also on two tracks off our 2002 EP, 'Endless'.
"We would like to take a second to urge people to not drink and drive. Please be responsible so these tragedies stop happening."
