Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
October 22, 2016-Texas Revolution Festival held in Austin is a festival run by promoters Come And Take It Productions.
I’ve covered a lot of Come And Take It shows for Metalunderground.com, including the spring version of the festival, Texas Independence Fest in 2015. That festival featured such bands as Between The Buried And Me, Vital Remains, White Chapel, COC, Death Angel and Cavalera Conspiracy. Tonight billed such artists as Hatebreed, Devildriver, Soilwork and Crowbar.
The Independence Festival was a three-day outing, while Texas Revolution was only one day. Both festivals were held at the same venue—Empire Control Room & Garage. The Control Room stage was an smaller, inside stage that held many of the lesser-known and local acts. Ringworm headlined that stage. The Garage is an outside stage that housed the headliners. I took the Metra to the CTA Blue Line since I didn't want to pay for both gas and city parking. Besides, mass transit probably caused more damage to my hearing over the years that heavy metal ever did. On the way down to the city, the train conductor asked if I was in high school as he was offering student discounts and I looked like I could be a teenager. I'm 28. That's the downside of shaving my beard off every spring and staying clean shaven all the way through the summer until late autumn. With it, I look 16. Without it I look 45. I simply cannot win.
The venue is located in Wicker Park, which is the Hipster capital of Chicago thanks in no small part to the Subterranean being located right next to the Double Door. If there was any further proof that the hipster generation is a bunch of aging fossils, the Subterranean had a flier for an upcoming nu metal DJ night with a picture of Fred Durst. When your generation is old enough to get nostalgic and start looking backwards instead of to the future, they're officially as pathetic as retired hippies still pining away for the 60s. More...

Our Band of the Week is Pacto, a Spanish-speaking doom/black metal lot from Bogotá, Colombia, formed in 2007. After several years of work, they released the full-length album “El Reino De Los Hechiceros” earlier this year. We introduce and discuss the song “Senda Sin Fin” at the start, and stay tuned for the title track at our sign-off.
Then co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) recaps, with a scratchy voice, an intense weekend he spent recently in central Florida for the DeLand Rock & Metal Festival (co-sponsored by none other than MetalUnderground.com). He considers it an overall success, and wishes to say a few words on some of his favorite acts of the event, including Everthrone, Orbweaver, and Seven Kingdoms.
The festival was able to condense four hours down to one but the first day of HHFF started an hour late. I didn’t expect to see any of Evil United since they were suppose to have ended at 12:30, but my 1:15 arrival time allowed me to catch a couple of songs from the Austin-based band. Evil United may be local, but the group consists of veterans such as Jason McMaster—who was well known in the eighties as front man for Dangerous Toys and Watchtower. In addition to Evil United, he now sings in Ignitor and Broken Teeth. McMaster’s voice soared through the parking lot that comprised Midway’s stage, Evil U was the sole representative of classic heavy metal at the festival. More...

We regret to inform everyone that Norwegian black metal legends Satryicon will no longer be able to perform at this year's Housecore™ Horror Film Festival. The band explained via its official Facebook page:
"Dear U.S fans. We regret to inform that Satyricon will not perform at Knotfest in San Bernardino, CA and Horror Fest in Austin, TX in October 2014. The reasons for not being able to perform at these two festivals are both pragmatic ones and entirely different from each other.
"Satyricon will now shift its attention towards the writing of a new album, re-editing the footage from the 'Live at the Opera' live album/DVD and another project that will be announced at a later stage. It is important for the band that the U.S fans understand that you are far from forgotten and that the band look forward to come over for a full scale U.S tour as soon as it is possible. You deserve it." More...
