Latest Unearth News
Below is our complete Unearth news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Unearth has signed a North American record deal with eOne Music. The band plans to release a brand new LP later this year, the sixth spanning the band's 15 year tenure. Vocalist Trevor Phipps offers the state of the band and their intentions for this new release in his comments below:
"A new chapter has begun for Unearth as we have found a few new places to call home. By joining forces with eOne (North America), Century Media (Europe), Howling Bull (Japan) and 3Wise (Australia) we will have a more focused attack from some of the most well known and respected labels in the world. We know this new beginning of sorts will bring bigger and better things for Unearth and our fans and we couldn't be more excited for the future of all things Unearth. We are currently in the studio recording some of the most aggressive, anthemic and energized metal we have ever written and we look forward to unleashing it to you all when it is finished. Expect to hear more about our new album, release dates and future world wide touring plans later this summer.
"We also want to take this opportunity to thank Metal Blade Records for being our label home for almost a decade. In that time we released four LP's and a double DVD, circled the Globe playing Heavy Metal dozens of times and experienced some of the greatest moments of our collective lives. Metal Blade helped us along the path of our dream and we are eternally grateful. We start new label relationships today, but we will always consider ourselves part of the Metal Blade Records family."
With roughly 500,000 in worldwide sales, Unearth has played amphitheaters, sheds, theaters, halls and clubs with a diverse group of bands that includes Slipknot, Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, All That Remains, DevilDriver, Dimmu Borgir, Gwar and Whitechapel. They’ve appeared at prestigious festivals like Download in the UK, Germany’s With Full Force and Wacken, Belgium’s Graspop, Hellfest in France and Japan’s Loud Park.
Unearth will begin 2013 in a big way on tour alongside Whitechapel and Emmure. The "Brothers of Brutality Tour" will begin on January 8th in Knoxville, TN and wraps up February 11th in New York, NY. Unfortunately, Unearth bassist John "Slo" Maggard will not be joining the band on the tour.
Vocalist Trevor Phipps has posted the following update: "John 'Slo' Maggard will unfortunately be sitting out the Brothers of Brutality Tour (Whitechapel, Emmure, Obey the Brave, The Plot In You) this coming January/February. His absence is simply to take care of personal matters at home and is only temporary. Slo will remain a member of Unearth moving forward and is actively involved in the writing process for our next album, which we plan to record and release some time in 2013. Luckily, our long time friend Matt DeVries (Fear Factory, ex-Chimaira) will be taking over bass duties for the tour." More...

To commemorate the album, KSE will play the album in its entirety, from start to finish, as well as other more recent tracks.
The sixth annual California Metalfest will be held at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA on Saturday, November 24th. Ash Avildsen, founder of California Metalfest had this to say: "Alive or Just Breathing is one of the most important and timeless albums for this era of heavy music. KsE's special headlining set combined with the rest of the line-up is going to make for an incredible day of metal and memories. Having all these bands in the same place on one day is really exciting both as a fan and as a festival producer."

Vocalist Trevor Phipps comments on the trip: "Touring the planet playing our music is a privilege. The fact that metal has brought us around the world numerous times and now to South East Asia continues to blow our minds. To our fans in S.E. Asia, get ready because we're coming for you. See you all soon!"

This year's Summer Breeze festival will be taking place from August 16th - 18th, with full details available at the festival's website here. The organizers of Summer Breeze have now issued the following announcement about confirming new bands:
"Since the release of their amazing breakthrough album 'Inwards', Dew-Scented have been at the forefront of European thrash metal. Since then, the cool bunch led by frontman Leif Jensen have been producing fantastic albums full of unstoppable riff power and overwhelming intensity at nicely regular intervals, cementing the band's excellent reputation time and again. In 2012, Dew-Scented aim at kick-starting their career with an entirely new line-up – with the exception of band boss Leif – and the fantastic new album 'Icarus', and are gearing up to shatter the Summer Breeze Open Air into small pieces. We are stoked to welcome the indestructible machine called Dew-Scented at our festival once more. Get thrashed!
"When Agrypnie played the Summer Breeze festival in 2008 for the first and only time so far, they were booked as consolation for all those who were mourning the recent disbanding of Nocte Obducta. Four years, one studio album and one EP later, the Hessians have made a career for themselves, having now reached the same level as the aforementioned group. Their new studio album is still being recorded as we speak, but their last EP 'Asche' was already an announcement for big things to come in the realm of post black metal. Expressive, multi-faceted, melancholic, dynamic – all these attributes fit Agrypnie like a glove and are underlined by the fact that their songs don't ever become predictable or interchangable. One of the most exciting bands our scene has to offer nowadays."

Unearth's new video for "Watch It Burn" from "Darkness in the Light" is now streaming on Metalinjection.net. Vocalist Trevor Phipps elaborates on the video: "This video captures both the energy we put into every performance as well as imagery of the dark lyrical content of "Watch it Burn". He grew up playing for local bands in the Seattle/Tacoma area (Culling the Weak, Eterna Nocturna, Embalmed) as well as LA based band The Faceless. Nick first sat in behind the kit for Unearth in May of 2011 during their two show trip to Alaska. Co-headliners Unearth and Chimaira, two bastions of the breakdown, threw down a modern-metal clinic at Emo’s East in Austin, Texas. Molotov Solution, a promising newcomer to Metal Blade Records, opened the show in fitting ground-and-pound deathcore fashion. Skeletonwitch seemed the odd man out, although their searing blend of blackened thrash proved a needed diversity. The package came sealed with a black licorice-tasting inebriation courtesy of Jägermeister music. More...
