The masters of high-pitch heavy metal, Helstar made a rare appearance in Austin, Texas. I last saw the Houston band play about eight years ago. This time they came through with another veteran act, Omen. There is about seventy years of experience between the two bands. Neither of the acts have garnered the popularity of similar bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but their fans have remained steadfast. Old fans and new fans alike were on hand to witness both bands showcase new material, while dishing out the classics. More...

Omen's "Hammer Damage" album is set to arrive on CD format via Pure Steel Records on May 27th, 2016. The first edition comes with a special colored grey tray and the pre-order phase will start on May 13th. Pure Steel comments:
"With the signing of U.S. metal legend Omen an old dream of ours has come true. For us, at Pure Steel Records, classic albums like 'Battle Cry' and 'Warning of Danger' are historical contributions to the metal world. With a striking release entitled 'Hammer Damage,' the first studio album since 'Eternal Black Dawn' (2003), Omen is back in the saddle and means serious business. The new album was mixed by Kenny Powell and mastered by QuSound Studio/Michael Kusch.
"When listening to epic and catchy power hymns such as 'Hammer Damage' (the incisive title track) or the hard pounding 'Cry Havoc' or the masculine pathos 'Hellas,' fans of the Californian quartet will completely go crazy. Already active in Omen between 1998 and 2009, Kevin Goocher (also Phantom X), with his raspy voice, will often remind you of the late J.D. Kimball, while guitarist Kenny Powell, also part of the 2016 lineup, has obviously not lost any of the striking guitar skills he displayed during Omen’s glorious early days.
"With 'Hammer Damage,' Omen clearly show that they are ready to reclaim their throne as masters of unadulterated U.S. metal." More...

Pure Steel Records has issued the following announcement about the "Hammer Damage" album from Omen being postponed:
"We regret to inform you that the new Omen album 'Hammer Damage' release is postponed again. The hurricane damage to Kenny Powell's house was larger than first thought, so problems in the completion of mixing and mastering could not be avoided. We were hoping to finally being able to realize a release at the specified date - it was not to be."
Guitarist Kenny Powell adds: "First off I hate to be an excuse maker, but I have had a huge problem with the studio, I have been putting off a new roof on my house until the record was finished, after several days of heavy rain, the studio was flooded and the roof collapsed in. It took me several days to patch things up and clean up all of the equipment, thankfully nothing was damaged."
The "Hammer Damage" track listing is as follows:
1. Hammer Damage
2. Knights of the Cross
3. Era of Crisis
4. Epitaph for a Warrior
5. The Canyon
Omen guitarist Kenny Powell has posted the following update online, in which he announces the departure of vocalist George Call and his replacement in Matt Story. You can read the statement below:
"I loved George singing for Omen. I have great respect for him. However, I made a commitment to Omen and myself three years ago to try and do the final three Omen records equal to the first three. I was 53 at the time, I am now 56 and want to accomplish every thing possible before my skills start to diminish. At this rate I will get my first social security check before I finish a new Omen record. It is simply not acceptable for me to wait any longer. . . At this point in time I must put Omen above anything else.
"The new record is finally moving forward, and the great thing for me is that it is going to be even better than I thought possible. Matt Story is doing the vocals. He was the person that I wanted all along, [but] it was not possible because of other commitments. He has a great voice and has time to do the Omen CD now. He has been here every time I have asked and busted his ass to three and four in the morning without a single complaint.
"I honestly feel that 'Hammer Damage' will shock the metal world.
"Look for the new CD by early spring, and then we can start touring again. I think Greece should be the first stop!"

Pittsburgh melodic metal band ICARUS WITCH has announced a change in their lead vocalist. In a statement from the band's official site they explained the situation:
"We are excited to announce yet another massive shift in our ranks as we welcome new vocalist Christopher Shaner to the ICARUS WITCH circle and part ways amicably with original vocalist, Matthew Bizilia. Matthew's contributions to the band have been immeasurable over the past six years. While this was a serious decision for both parties, professional differences of opinion led to the change. Bizilia is a phenomenal talent who will always be a part of the Witch family as we wish him much success on his future ventures."
Incoming vocalist and Erie, Pennsylvania native Shaner is a long time friend and collaborator of guitarist Quinn Lukas. Before Quinn moved to Pittsburgh to join ICARUS WITCH in 2006, he had worked on various musical projects with the singer. Much like the recent acquisition of second guitarist Ed Skero, the choice to add Christopher to the band was based on a combination of what he brings to the lineup personally, musically and professionally. His powerful vocal range, sense of harmony and intense work ethic are a perfect fit for the next phase of this band. Writing for the follow-up to Draw Down The Moon has already commenced with the new recruits and it promises to be the band's most diverse, melodic and epic release ever. More...

Omen founder/guitarist, Kenny Powell, has released the following statement:
"Original Omen bass player Jody Henry was severely injured in a fall last week and is suffering from a fractured skull. While he is doing much better than anyone expected, he still faces a long and costly rehab.Unfortunately, he has no health insurance like the rest of us (MUSICIANS} and a fund has been set up on www.myspace.com/helpjody where interested parties can contribute to helping with his medical and personal bills. Jody and myself had already been discussing doing some future projects at the time of his accident. Hopefully he will have a complete recovery and there will be new music in the near future from the original Omen songwriters. Thanks in advance to everyone that can provide financial or moral support. Kenny Powell"
OMEN guitarist, Kenny Powell, is scheduled to appear at the "Up The Hammers" warm up show/party on Friday, April 20th, at the Underworld in Athens, Greece.

Omen founder/guitarist, Kenny Powell, has issued the following statement to Omen fans regarding the Full Metal Festival:
"Omen would like to apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused to the fans trying to attend the Full Metal Fest in Mexico City, Mexico on Saturday, March 3rd.
We arrived at the airport in Dallas, Friday March 2nd, only to be informed that our tickets were reserved but no yet paid for. We spent the majority of the day waiting at the airport because we were told that our reserved tickets would in fact be paid for and that we would catch a later flight. We made every attempt possible to make the show and by early evening we were told that the entire festival was cancelled.
Omen never wishes to let our fans down and do everything in our power to ensure that every concert is 100% legitimate. We had no reason to believe otherwise, regarding the Full Metal Fest in Mexico. We were sincerely
looking forward to playing Mexico for the first time and we're looking for another promoter in hopes of having a concert there in the near future. Sincerely, Kenny Powell.”
