Periphery has now released the band's new "Icarus" EP in stores everywhere. This offering features a brand new unreleased track, bonus tracks from previous album, as well as a series of remixes and video clips. A video clip of guitarists Misha Mansoor and Jake Bowen describing how the EP came together can be viewed below.
Bowen states: “We are very excited to unleash the new Icarus EP on the world. It's been a very busy year for us so far and we hope the EP will hold everyone over until we finish writing and recording our new record. In show news, we're excited to say that we've been given the great opportunity to play this year's Sonisphere Festival in the UK. Needless to say, we're very stoked to go back to the UK to play for fans old and new, and to share the stage with some of the world's greatest bands.
"We're also extremely grateful to have such strong support from all of our friends at Guitar World - make sure you check out the newest issue to see what gear we're using and read what they have to say about the 'Djent' movement. Matt Halpern, our drummer, will also be appearing and performing live on drumchannel.com with Terry Bozzio on April 29th at 4pm PST, so make sure to log on for that.
"It's crazy to see 2011 is moving so fast, but there is plenty more in store for PERIPHERY coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled and ears open! Talk soon.”
Halpern further comments: “I couldn't be more excited for this amazing opportunity to hang out and jam with one of the best drummers that has ever lived. I've followed drumchannel.com and Terry Bozzio for a long time now, and I'm humbled to be performing in the same studio as some of the greatest drummers who have ever lived. Terry, who will be hosting the broadcast, is one of the most well known, super creative and insanely well respected drummers in the world. I've sat down and traded licks with tons of amazing drummers over the years, but I gotta say, i'm REALLY looking forward to this one! Make sure you tune in to drumchannel.com, next Friday, April 29th at 4PM PST (7PM EST) for the free live performance.”
Progressive metal act Periphery has posted the following statement online, announcing it has decided to cancel its remaining dates on the Fair To Midland North American tour.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience we are causing any of our fans, but also the bands that we have been on tour with for the past couple of weeks. Please don’t be upset, we really need your support! Thank you for understanding"

Maryland based six-piece Periphery is embarking on a North American tour alongside Fair To Midland and Scale The Summit.
Guitarist Alex Bois states: “This tour couldn't have come at a better time! We are fresh off of our first UK/EU tour and hungry to return to our home crowds. We've all been HUGE fans of both bands for a while now and it will be great to finally share the road/stage with them. I think our styles compliment each other in such a way that this tour will be educational, as it is exciting. Our new Icarus Lives EP will also be released on April 19th, so we're also stoked to be showcase some tracks from it.
“We just drove over 1,400 miles to Houston to start our tour with Fair to Midland and Scale the Summit. Unfortunately, FTM and STS had to pull-out of the first four dates in Texas due to an illness but fear not, we are still playing those venues on those dates as a headliner with a go-go-gadget extendo set-list for all to enjoy. Well, all except today in Houston where we decided to find our own venue (house of creeps) and do a completely free show! Yes, our show is cheaper than Walmart or Target.
“We'll meet up with our boys in FTM and STS on Tuesday in Arizona and begin bamboozling North America. Both of these bands are amazing and were stoked to see everyone's reactions to such a tasty line-up. See you all soon.”

Matt Halpern, drummer of American progressive metal act Periphery, has posted some new drum cam footage online. The footage features Halpern performing a technical improvised jam. Matt Halpern commented on the video by saying:
"So, this one is an improvised jam I did for fun. I'm just messing around and having fun with some random groove ideas here... I've been teaching on this make-shift Mapex kit with the single kick Mapex Falcon Pedal, and I really dig the sound contrast of the drums, and the wallet on the snare makes the attack dry.
"The cymbals are all Meinl Soundcaster Customs... The one on the right is a 20" crash, and the hi-hats are 14.
"Oh [yeah], and this video is for Brandon of Impending Doom!"

Check out this location to find out all of the details on how to register to receive the track.
Mansoor checks in with his thoughts on this remix contest: "Hey guys, since all of us in Periphery are such huge electronic music fans, we came up with a fun idea. We want to do a remix contest for our song 'Icarus Lives!' just to see what all you talented folk out there could do with it. We will give you just the vocals and let you go to town on it, be it a trance, house, dubstep, electronica, glitch, drum & bass or whatever your flavor is remix. Make it as crazy or as true to the original as you want, or anything in between, we want to hear what you guys can do, but originality and creativity are always well appreciated. The best part is that the winner's song will be on our upcoming EP that is due early next year. Have at it.”
