Life Of Agony Releases New Video

Brooklyn's Life Of Agony has completed work on new album and Napalm Records debut "A Place Where There's No More Pain," which will be released April 28th, 2017. Today the first video offering for the album's title track "A Place Where There's No More Pain" has also been unleashed.

The video was directed by Leigh Brooks of Firebelly Films and was shot predominately in Hamburg, Germany with a few shots from the London show on LOA's recent European tour.

"We were looking to capture the raw energy of our live show with the new video for 'A Place Where There's No More Pain,' says bassist Alan Robert. "As a longtime LOA fan, director Leigh Brooks instantly knew exactly what we were going for. He's been a fan since the early nineties and we finally met at the Electric Ballroom gig in London last year. He shot that show and we immediately became friends. He's a super talented guy with great vision and a deep passion for this band. He and his crew got pretty banged up shooting this one (laughs). They got right in the pit with their equipment - the poor guys! Leigh was one of the very first people outside of the band to hear the new music and he was completely psyched to be involved."

Life Of Agony Confirms New Album Release Date

Reactivated Brooklyn hard rock legends Life Of Agony are hard at work on the new album and Napalm Records debut "A Place Where There's No More Pain." Today the band has confirmed an April 28th release date and have debuted the album's artwork (shown below). The track listing along with pre-order options will be made available soon.

Life of Agony's Alan Robert commented: "We're in the final stages of mixing the album with our producer and then we head into mastering sessions with Ted Jensen (Alice in Chains, Machine Head, Deftones) at Sterling Sound, NYC. This record is a monster and we're so psyched to finally share it come April. It's got such an energy to it. Raging guitar riffs, heartfelt lyrics and killer grooves. We definitely turned things up a few notches in 2017 and it feels great. And I gotta say, we've never been so focused as a band. Before we even wrote the first note, we all knew what kind of record we wanted to make. You can hear that drive and intensity in the tracks and you can feel the momentum building." More...

Alan Robert Launches Pre-Orders For Coloring Book

Coloring books for grown-ups have exploded in the U.S. since 2015, selling millions of copies and crowding bookstores and bestseller lists with black and white line art.

The majority of the titles focus on nature and abstract patterns, so it was only a matter of time until a different type of coloring book came along that would cut through the sea of mandalas. Case in point - "The Beauty of Horror: A GOREgeous Coloring Book" by Life of Agony bassist/songwriter Alan Robert and published by award-winning IDW Publishing.

This unique, horror-themed coloring book for adults is filled with 80 pages of Robert's original, hand drawn, and nightmarish illustrations. It is already in the Top 5 on Amazon's Hot New Releases List and it doesn't even hit bookstores until October 4th. The Beauty of Horror is available for pre-order at a reduced price for a limited time at Amazon or over at Barnes & Noble.

"I think the main reason why people are so excited about 'The Beauty of Horror' coloring book is that it's something different for coloring fans. Nature and peaceful, abstract patterns don't appeal to everybody. There are a ton of coloring fans out there with darker, edgier tastes, and they're hungry to find an alternative to the norm. This book speaks to them," Robert explains. "It's art therapy for the abnormal." More...

Graspop Metal Meeting: Day One

The Graspop Metal Meeting festival, held annually in the small Belgian town of Dessel, has become one of the highlights of the metal calendar, along with such festivals as Wacken Open Air and Hellfest and this year, the event proved how successful it is by celebrating it's twentieth edition. It was certainly a special way to mark the occassion, booking a number of bands who had never played the festival before but who fans had been clamouring to see. It has always traditionally catered to head bangers of all ages, bringing in bands from the early days of metal to the stars of today, as well as up and comers. Before we go any further, it should be noted that due to scheduling conflicts, some big names either will not be covered in this review, or only mentioned briefly, so don't be disappointed if your favourite band doesn't get the treatment you want, if at all. So, with all that said, just how good can a metal festival in the Flemish region be? Read on, MacDuff.

Arriving on the Thursday, the camp site seemed to be smoother than ever to get in to than previous years. Whether this is because the staff have further improved the planning of the grounds, metal heads have become friendlier over the past four years, or because I've been put on medication since my last visit, we'll never know. Anyway, the general atmosphere at Graspop was, as per usual, a very relaxed one, with people from all over the world coming to listen to and celebrate the music they love so dearly. There are some bands performing on this day too, mostly cover acts such as The Art of Pantera and Diolegacy. It's a good way to get introduced to the festival grounds, get some tokens (imagine Disney money but with skulls on,) and familiarise yourself with the stages, food stalls and the cafe, which is more of a pub with Warlock on full blast.

On to the most important thing however, the music. Kicking off the main stage, or rather, the second main stage as the festival now has two, was hard rock supergroup, The Dead Daisies. The band features a collective of solid names such as Marco Mendoza, Dizzy Reed and former Motley Crue vocalist, John Corabi. Looking at the bands on the members resume such as Guns N Roses, Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake, their good time, hard rocking sound was pretty much what one would expect. This does not, however, stop them from doing their job of getting people on their feet, putting smiles on faces and generally bringing a great vibe to the event that is so vital in making sure a festival gets off to a good start. They're not just a party act either, they've got some genuinly good songs and a number of people seemed to be a little surprised how much they enjoyed the set. Bottom line: If you want to party like it's 1985, go see the Dead Daisies. You'll be glad you did. More...

"Killogy" Animated Series On The Way

"Killogy" is a high-energy, animated dark comedy from creator Alan Robert (Life Of Agony) based on his hit IDW Publishing comic series, in association with Squeeze Studio Animation and award-winning producer Rodney Barnes (The Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris).

Stars Frank Vincent (Goodfellas, The Sopranos), Marky Ramone (the Ramones), Brea Grant (Heroes, Dexter), and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein (the Misfits) battle it out in apocalyptic-Brooklyn when an ancient voodoo curse wakes the dead and floods the city with blood.

This outrageous premise and bizarre mash-up of punk rock royalty, wiseguy sarcasm, and over-the-top gore makes for one hilarious rollercoaster ride. "Killogy" is being produced and developed under Robert's Wasted Talent Entertainment banner, consisting of Robert, Chris White (V/H/S Viral) and Jeff Mazzola (Descent).

"Killogy" was nominated for Best Mini-Series (2013) and Best One-Shot (2014) at the Ghastly Awards and picked up a Horror Comic Award for Best Scene from ComicMonsters.com. Bloody Disgusting listed Killogy at #4 on their Top 10 Best Mini-Series of 2013. More...

Sunday Old School: Life Of Agony

Alternative metal is probably the loosest tag of any metal sub-genre, which is what makes it so alternative I suppose. Nevertheless, today Sunday Old School looks at Life Of Agony, an alternative metal band from Brooklyn, New York. Life Of Agony was formed in 1989 by singer Keith Caputo, guitarist Joey Z and bass player Alan Robert, who went through a number of drummers before settling with Sal Abruscato, a founding member of the gothic metal band, Type O Negative. The group slogged it out for four years before signing a record deal with Roadrunner, who were also home to Type O Negative. Through the label, the band released their debut album, "River Runs Red" in October of 1993. The album was critically praised and in time has become known as one of the finest records in the entire Roadrunner catalogue, gaining popularity through singles such as, "This Time" and "Through And Through."

A more emotional direction was employed on the group’s next studio album, "Ugly," which was released in 1995. The album was once again highly praised and was notable for featuring a cover of the Simple Minds hit, "Don’t You (Forget About Me,)" as well as a cover of Bob Marley’s, "Redemption Song" on the special edition of the album. Shortly after "Ugly’s" release, Abruscato announced that he was leaving the band and was replaced by Dan Richardson, formerly of the bands Pro-Pain and Crumbsuckers. With their new drummer in tow, Life Of Agony recorded and released their third album, "Soul Searching Sun" in 1997, but were dealt a major blow when Caputo announced his resignation from the group, claiming his heart was no longer in to the type of music Life Of Agony wrote. The band soldiered on, initially recruiting former Ugly Kid Joe vocalist Whitfield Crane, but parted company with the singer when they began working on a new album. After toying with the idea of Robert switching to vocals and guitar and bringing in Stuck Mojo bassist Corey Lowery, Life Of Agony decided to simply call it a day, feeling that the band couldn’t continue properly without Caputo. Life Of Agony Bassist To Appear On NY Ink

Vocalist/bassist Alan Robert from Life of Agony, known for his comic book series "Wire Hangers" and "Crawl to Me," has been confirmed to star in the season two premiere of TLC's show "NY Ink." Last season, the show's Wooster Street Social Club crew had such guests as Corey Taylor, Method Man and LaMarr Woodley - who all got inked in the studios and told their stories. Robert shared the following quote about being on the show:

"Wooster St. has some of the most amazing tattoo talent around, so I was thrilled to get my piece done by Megan. Her style is perfect for the ink I chose," said Robert. "Being on the show was a trip and it was interesting to see, first hand, just what goes into making a hit series like this. I give the artists a lot of credit, too. It's one thing to deliver kick-ass tattoos day in and day out... but it's another thing to try and do that with a bunch of cameras jammed in your face. No pressure, right?!"

Alan Robert's graphic novel "Crawl to Me" will be in book stores in January of 2012. More...

Life Of Agony Vocalist Now A Pre-op Transsexual

In a bizarrely unfolding story introduced at ThePRP, confirmed at Metal Insider, and expanded at Blabbermouth, Life Of Agony frontman Keith Caputo does indeed appear to have deserted the male gender and reinvented himself as a "frontwoman" - at least in spirit and appearance. Caputo cleared things up amongst a flurry of tweets: "I'm keeping my penis!"

Meanwhile, Life Of Agony is in the midst of a trio of European shows (Germany, Belgium, Netherlands). Whether or not these shows are their last, as has been heavily rumored, some interesting fan-shot footage of the band's performance in Augsburg, Germany, has surfaced - featuring Caputo in his newfound, gender-ambiguous persona.

Pit Stories: Don't Do Drugs And Stage Dive

We've been talking with bands and fans everywhere to get their mosh pit stories. Over the dozens of stories, we've share quite a few tales of stage dives gone wrong, from humorous to painful to weird, and everything in between. This week, Sal Abruscato of A Pale Horse Named Death (ex-Life Of Agony) shares a more serious stage dive story:

Yeah I got a story, it was 1994 and Life Of Agony was playing at L'Amours in Brooklyn. It was a sold out show and was intense. This poor kid under the influence of drugs decided to stage dive head first, he smashed his head on the floor hemorrhaging by the time the ambulance came. Sadly he died later that evening at a very young age. Point of my story is you should not stage dive because it can be your last time.

A Pale Horse Named Death just released their new album, "And Hell Will Follow Me" on June 14th via SPV/Steamhammer.

Be sure to check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.
