Watain recently announced the release date of their upcoming album, "Lawless Darkness."
"The title symbolizes the unbound chaotic potential of that which is void of light", frontman E. comments. "The light that defines, the light that shapes and restricts. The light by which the forces of law and order uphold their reign. In the absence of that light lies the wellspring of WATAIN: in Lawless Darkness.
"With this album and in all of our efforts with WATAIN we aim to capture the hungry madness and glimmering purity of darkness beyond illusion, the void that holds all yet where naught is manifest, the primordial tomb into which all the vanity of man and his creation shall collapse: indeed, The Lawless Darkness!
"Lawless Darkness shall be seen as a monument erected in honour of that collapse and a dedication to all those brave souls, who have willingly dared to venture the winding paths towards it."
"Shed not thy light on me
Get thee hence, thoughts defined
Blind me not with your bright structures
For I am of the night
"Let not thy rays caress me
Judged by them I will not be
For they are the light that governs man
And I am the enemy"
In other news, WATAIN will return to the United States once again in late May as part of the annual aural offensive known as the Maryland Deathfest, appearing with Sodom, Obituary, Entombed, Possessed, Necrophobic and countless more.
And, after completing the regular portion of their set at this year's Sweden Rock Festival in on June 12th, WATAIN will return to the stage for a unique 45-minute tribute concert featuring classic Bathory songs. The event promises to be even more special as the Bathory part of WATAIN's performance will be introduced by none other than late Bathory mainman Quorthon's father and producer, Börje "Boss" Forsberg. "It feels great to have Boss participating in a part of the show, since he, in a way, is the only living link to the Bathory myth," says E. "It will still be a tribute show and nothing else, but we are, of course, honored to be able to do it with his blessing!"
The organisers of the Czech Republics Brutal Assault festival has announced two more bands for this years edition of the event. Swedish black metal kings WATAIN just completed their fourth full-length album, after two months at Necromorbus Studio.
Vocalist and mastermind E. comments, "I am now holding in my hand the final master tape of what might be the most dynamic and charged WATAIN release ever recorded. May the gods unto which it is written be pleased! We are very much looking forward to share this rich feast with our followers, whom we know have been hungering for a very long time. All I can say is that it will be worth the wait. We raise our cups unto all of you whose patience and support have been constant during the three fiery years since the release of 'Sworn to the Dark,' and look forward to set the night aflame with you again soon!"
The unveiling of WATAIN's fourth album will take place on June 7th.
Swedish metal band Ram has issued the following update about "Lightbringer," their upcoming album:
"Compared to 'Forced Entry' the 'Lightbringer' album is a step in manydirections for us. Forced Entry was a very straight forward (in RAM terms) Heavy Metal album, Lightbringer is more concept orientated and it displays an array of different themes that are noticeable in songwriting, lyrics and throughout the production.
"Including a horror mantra that features Mexican poet Adelaida Caballero performing one of her profound, surrealistic and magick poems, this album offers hard and heavy but quite unorthodox Heavy Metal songs that feature many twists and different parts, along with melancholic and very melodic pieces. E from the infamous Black Metal band Watain is featured on one track which is A Modern Heavy Black Metal track and he lays down some Sinister vocals indeed. Something as unusual as a metal horror opera, 'The Elixir' features a macabre tale in vein of Edgar Allan Poes work. Our most epic track to date and also the longest RAM song ever recorded is a song about the Battle at Suomussalmi in 1939 during the Finnish winter war."

"NECROPHOBIC is from now on a 5 piece strong legion! During 2008 the band did a number of shows as a 5 piece with Erik Danielsson (Watain) as a session member. This made Necrophobic come to think of continue on a new path and develop the live performances as the new live impression was much better." More...

BOOK OF BLACK EARTH consists of members of venerable metal underground band Teen Cthulhu, as well as drummer Joe Axler of Skarp, Splatterhouse, and Iamthethorn, among others. Having already released a self-financed demo in 2004 and a split release with underground legends Fall Of The Bastards in 2005, 2006’s "The Feast," received praise from Decibel magazine, Terrorizer magazine, and the band’s hometown newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "WATAIN's first two albums have both been hailed as monumental and groundbreaking within the underground for their undeniably magical content and fanatic intensity, yet they are also considered collectors items which to this day are still hard to come by," leader Erik states. "As WATAIN never wanted their divine art to be something restricted for collectors and rich eBay kids only, we have now chosen to reveal to all of the world our dark and fiery past. A past that came to shape one of the most terrible abominations ever to stalk the Metal scene!"

This time however, the full artillery shall be brought across the sea, in all it's terrible glory."

It is now official, WATAIN will head out on a full-scale European crusade in October - the Storm of the Antichrist tour - alongside the ancient Asian warbeast IMPIETY. This will be WATAIN's first headliner tour in Europe, following the April release of the highly acclaimed "Sworn to the Dark".
"From the vaults below the desert-temple, to the throne among the stars... Sweden's Black Metal Magicians have been burning and pillaging their way through the Black Metal scene ever since their cursed birth. Notoriously infamous for their blood-soaked, fiery live-perfomances and morbid ways, WATAIN have many times been refered to as "the new usurpers of the Black Metal throne". Their third album "Sworn to the Dark" was released in early 2007 and was welcomed worldwide as one of the most important releases of the genre in years. After having toured the world with bands like DISSECTION, CELTIC FROST and ANGELCORPSE, it is now time for WATAIN's first headliner tour in Europe. Beware... The werewolves of Satan have been unleashed!"

Celtic Frost have released the following statement in regards to an imposed curfew on their UK tour dates:
"While already on the road on the European leg of the "Monotheist" tour, we were informed of strict curfews to our co-headlining shows with Kreator in the UK. These curfews have been imposed locally and are not a stipulation by either Celtic Frost or Kreator. As a matter of fact, we oppose these curfews explicitly, and we have informed both our management and our concert agency accordingly. There is little we can do, however.
Celtic Frost and Kreator and the bands' representatives have spent months trying to assemble an appropriate and exciting touring package of four bands that cover a wide variety of contemporary metal. We loathe the fact that we are now finally back out on the road - in Celtic Frost's case, for the first time in some 17 years - and have to discover that the local booker and promoters in the UK impose curfews so unrealistically strict that it is impossible to put on the regular performances by all four bands on the bill as played everywhere else in Europe. Apparently, some of the UK venues book two events during certain nights, i.e., in this case our tour and another event. This will yield twice the profits for them in one night, but it also means that the first event, namely our tour, will have to clear the venue at an unreasonably early hour, as early as 9:30 or 10:00pm.
There appears to be no proper solution to this situation. Both headliners are categorically unwilling to cancel the performances of either our opening act or special guest, Watain and Legion Of The Damned, in order to play full headlining sets. Just like us, Watain and Legion of the Damned have travelled thousands of miles and gone through great expenses to play all of Europe. The local booker and promoters in the UK are equally unwilling to extend their ludicrous curfews, even for a mere 30 minutes. The alternative, so we are informed, would be a cancelled concert.
Having all four bands play at least a semblance of a set means that the duration of all sets will be severely restricted. In case of Celtic Frost and Kreator, this means sets of 60 minutes, in case of Watain and Legion of the Damned, sets of 20 minutes. This applies to the following shows: Glasgow, Bradford, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, and Nottingham. All bands involved believe that playing a set is better than cancelling any show. That we all are extremely frustrated, if not to say furious, about this situation is obvious."
