Despite practicing and writing together the last two months, WARBRINGER has official announced that Carlos Cruz (Hexen) is their new drummer. The delay in announcement was out of respect to their old drummer and Carlos' former band mates and there was no question about Carlos' playing, songwriting or personality as the band ironically offered Carlos the spot in 2008.
"After years of putting forth nothing but blood, sweat, and tears into my tireless ambitions for playing music, I have finally found an outlet where no more time is wasted. It was flattering to have been approached by Warbringer the first time they made a personnel change in 2008, but this time around it couldn't have felt more like perfect timing," states Carlos. "They're a collective group of humble, open-minded, down-to-earth guys who share the same fanaticism for music as I do and are the tightest musicians I have ever played with. I've never felt so welcomed and inspired to move forward. Even past members of the band have congratulated me and it feels very much like family, not just another band. From some recent serious downfalls in my personal life came this beautiful opportunity and I couldn't be happier. We'll be seeing all YOU Warbringers out on the road soon!"
Carlos will be making his live debut in Mexico City on March 5th at the Eyescream Festival alongside Asesino, Anvil, Toxic Holocaust and Abigail Williams. WARBRINGER plan to record their third album in April with more live shows in May and June.
See what I did there? Clever stuff, eh? Anyway, Death Angel is out doing a club tour across North America to support their newest studio full length, “Relentless Retribution,” supported by Lazarus A.D., Bonded by Blood, Early Man and Hexen. They stopped by Chicago on February 9, and already had a couple strikes against them before they even took the stage. But more on that later. Lazarus A.D. was supposed to be second on the bill but had van problems and didn’t make it to Chicago; an obvious bummer all around for obvious reasons, and it especially sucked for your correspondent, since I love me some Lazarus A.D. Hexen and Early Man were also replaced by a couple local Chicago bands. Enough preamble, let’s talk about what actually happened. More...
California thrash metal act Warbringer has been announced as the headline act at this year's "Thrashgiving" charity event. The benefit concert to feed the needy is set to take place on Saturday, November 20 at Cheyenne Saloon in Las Vegas, Nevada. Support on the bill will come from Hatchet, Hexen, Vektor, Malus Rex and Control the Chaos.
Event organizers commented by saying:
"Two years ago we debuted the concept of Thrashgiving bringing together out-of-state and local artists performing thrash metal music for the benefit of the needy and we're doing it again. Even bigger and better this year in an attempt to make this an event held annually in Las Vegas. All proceeds from the show will go to the Rescue Mission and Boys Town. So attend a good show and know that your charitable ticket price will be donated to these organizations to help the less fortunate have a nice holiday.
L.A. based thrash act Hexen has inked a deal with Pulviersed Records for a new full-length album to be released in 2011. Hexen singer / bass-player Andre Hartoonian commetned:
"Metallic hails from Southern California world of heavy metal! We are excited to announce inking a deal with our new partners Pulverised Records as of October 2010. We have a lot of plans, the first order of business being entering the studio in a few short weeks. We cannot wait to unleash the album we have been working on for a long time and even though we usually don't like to over-hype, the fact that it will blow you all away is still an understatement. Another thing is going on tour January-February with our friends Bonded by Blood, Early Man, Lazarus A.D., and the outstanding... Death Angel. Check back with us on our Myspace frequently to catch all the latest news and studio footage. 2011 is going to be an extravagant year for us. We cannot wait."
Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin added: "HeXeN's mighty debut 'State Of Insurgency' CD along with some of their demo tracks were sent to the Pulverised's office sometime ago and we were jaw-dropped by HeXeN's sound, and we knew in an instant that we had to pick these guys up. I had the pleasure of meeting former Century Media Records president Marco Barbieri when he was in Singapore with Warbringer as their tour manager, whom also highly recommended HeXeN during our previous discussions a few months back. Needless to say, signing the HeXeN deal became a hell lot quicker with Marco representing the band! We are very confident that HeXeN has gathered enough demons for the upcoming new album, and the HeXeN boys definitely know their Thrash Metal inside out!"

HEXEN, the Los Angeles-based metal band that "fuses the elements of melody, heaviness, speed, and technicality within the lair of thrash," has inked a deal with OSM Records.
According to a press release, "HEXEN's influences include a very wide spectrum of sub-genres spanning from thrash to extreme/black. They have also been known to put more thought and imagination into their lyrics than your average thrash band. With subject matter expressing their cynical take on politics and inner struggles, the themes include quite strong social commentaries. While a surplus of L.A. bands are currently in futile attempts to reanimate the '80s by cloning styles and riffs of bands at the time, HEXEN incorporates all the best aspects of the art to form original music of a new and refined sound essential to their brand of metal, while retaining the hardcore spirit of thrash's originally loud, rebellious, chaotic premise." The opener was Hollywood's HEXEN and they erupted with an old school thrash metal intensity that the Los Angeles scene has been lacking amid all the other glam revival acts that are crowding The Sunset Strip again with their shitty music. The band consists of Andre Hartoonian on bass/vocals, Vahe Yaymayan on lead/rhythm guitars, Ronny Dorian on lead/rhythm guitars and Greg Maksudyan working over the drums with a monsterous double bass drum attack. The band simply rampaged through their offerings such as 'The Serpent' and 'Bedlam Walls' with a literal Megadeth workman-like speed. They had the pits absolutely going off larger than I've seen any band be able to do at this venue this year. It was a very cool sight to see and they are definitely a must see for any fan of this sub-genre and I'm real excited to see what's to come from them.
The moment came for Glendale's mighty ORCUS to take the stage for this Halloween Holocaust. It was roughly 9:35PM when they did make their appearance dressed in dark clothing and wearing black and white Kabuki makeup that was designed as an homage to the black metal legend's IMMORTAL and DIMMU BORGIR. And with the opening strains from keyboardist, Andrew De Lange, they began their set with the cut 'Embers Of Their Lost Domain' from their debut EP 'Birth' and it was a perfect choice. The crowd around me seemed to come to life as if a new black metal God stood before them in lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist John Paul Fernandes, who looked to be more in his element than I've seen him before as the pit in front of him at center stage started to swirl with an immediate raging fervor. The drumming from Chris Moore was absolutely on mark and crushing as always but seemed to have an extra charge of energy behind each smashing kill-stroke to his drumkit. The band next dropped a big surprise on all with two new killer tracks that will be on their next album. They were 'Deus est Mortus' and 'The Immolation' and let me just say that the crowd seemed to really enjoy all of the fresh dynamics to be heard in both along with the purely ominous-sounding lead guitar and bass work from Hayg Terzian and Karo Torosyan. The pits seemed to be as strong here and the vibe the band was giving off with its unbridled energy really seemed to be what kept everyone so involved. The band closed their set with 'Sorgens Kammer II', which is a cover from Dimmu Borgir's new album, the remake of Stormblast. And what a song to bring it all to a close. I couldn't help but notice that the young metalers standing around me were checking to see if their faces had actually been ripped off. I even heard one of the survivors of this wicked progressive black metal onslaught they'd just witnessed say, "Man, these dudes are ready to play Ozzfest!"
