Great Falls Gets A Dose Of Evil Disco

It isn’t often that a town like Great Falls gets a big name band playing anything even remotely close to metal, with country and contemporary being the dominant musical genres in the area. The metal fans of Montana arrived in force on May 11th at the Civic Center Mansfeld Convention building to show their support of the scene and let Static-X know that Great Falls can be just as valid a tour stop as any bigger city. Playing alongside the kings of “evil disco” were Skumlove, My Evolution, and the newly formed Seventh Void, which features two Type O Negative members.

All of the various news outlets, from the band’s MySpace pages to the record label press releases, stated that the show started at 8:00 PM. Inexplicably they decided to start up a half an hour early so unfortunately openers Skumlove only got a fraction of the crowd to play for. Despite the setback they still played their blend of rock, industrial, and punk with gusto. For those who couldn’t be there, or happened to show up as their set was ending, Skumlove has premiered the new song "Anti-American Idol" exclusively on the Metalunderground MySpace music player. The 2009 line-up for the nationally renowned festival centrally located in the heart of the country will be highlighted by performances from some of rock’s biggest artists including Mötley Crüe, Slipknot, Alice In Chains, Avenged Sevenfold and Korn.

“We try to listen to our fans and they've been saying for years that we should play at Rock On The Range,” said Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe.

“We're really excited to play one of America's great rock festivals,” SLIPKNOT’s Corey Taylor says, “Being asked to headline Rock on the Range is an absolute pleasure! Columbus, Ohio has always been very good to us. The line-up looks great; the shows look fantastic. And I personally think it will be an absolute blast for everyone. See you in May!”

Presented by Right Arm Entertainment, AEG LIVE and Crew Stadium, the two-day, multi-stage music and lifestyle event will feature a potent line-up of more than 35 bands. This marks the third outing for the annual event, which drew 30,000 people in its inaugural year in 2007 and more than 55,000 people in 2008. Event features this year include the addition of a third stage, the Jägermeister Music Stage, on-stage fan platforms--for contest winners--and an expanded vendor village.

The Megadeth Equation of Album Updates

American thrash/heavy metal band Megadeth have given some equations based on the amount of work completed for their new upcoming album:

"12/12, 3/12, 3/12, 3/12 0/12, 0/12, 0/12, 0/12, 0/12, 0/12

"Droogies!

"The above formula is based off of some fractions and the amount of work to be done still. See if you can stick with me on the way.

"Shawn is indeed done and back in Atlanta, 12/12.

"We are working on rhythms; I had three, as well as Chris that was finished, and James got two finished. I have nine left, as well as Chris and James has 10 (I was told to use the digits when writing after the number nine).

"The vocals, solos, BGVs, Keyboards, effects, mixes and mastering are still left to do.

"We will keep you posted, but I doubt we are going to have this done in time.

"It wasn't for lack of trying, my lovely Droogs. We have all sat around and been ready and waiting for our turn at the recording process only to have Murphy's Law interrupt us: with an interview, a photo shoot, a mix of a live DVD, some recording on the Static-X record, doing work on the private stuff that Andy has backed up around his neck (hehehe) and various other chat room or fan club interviews. I get there every morning and wait, Andy has been a good sport about all of the parts and working while we are getting everything lining up, James has been there a lot of the times and has been working on archive stuff, Chris has been down almost daily now going over songs with me, and we are just getting fired up!!!

"I have to hop off of the computer because it is needed by someone.

"What a great freaking day... stay metal, or die trying!!!

"MSGD!

Static-X Issues New Album Update

Electro-Industrial metal band Static-X has issued the following update about "Cult Of Static," their upcoming album:

Happy New Year everyone! I am excited to announce our new CD, entitled "Cult of Static", will be released on March 17th. I started writing a year ago in January 2008 after coming home from the long tour for "Cannibal." The past year has been quite a blur; between writing and recording the new cd and releasing the "Cannibal Killers Live" dvd I've kept very busy.

I know you are all going to love this new record. It has everything you have come to expect from Static-X... and more. This is the most epic record we've ever made, it has the most crushing guitar tone I've ever had, and we even got Dave Mustaine of Megadeth to play a guitar solo on a new version of the song "Lunatic." Tony, Koichi, Nick, and myself put everything we had into recording this cd.

I can hardly believe it's been a decade since the release of our first CD, "Wisconsin Death Trip," and we're still going strong thanks to all of you! The title "Cult of Static" is meant to be a big thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the years. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming world tour. Check back here for details.

Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine Checks In

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has posted the following update online:

"We had a good day yesterday at the studio. And Shawn Drover pulled in around 2PM if memory serves me well. I was working most of the day on listening to stuff for the demos, and went over the R.I.P. demos again, the Trent Reznor mixes of 'Symphony Of Destruction' (which are genius in my book - great job Trent . . . even tho you'll never see this), and found four more really good songs I taped. I know this sounds wacky to have all of these riffs around, but that is the way some musicians work. Hell, I checked my messages on the studio answering machine, and I heard a sleepy dood that sounds like me singing a guitar riff into the phone in the middle of the night.

"I really do that

"Today Wayne from STATIC-X is coming down to Vic's Garage (the name will make sense if you ever record here), and we should have a fun day, er well, night, since he is getting here at the time I usually go back home. Ha! We had a great tour with Static-X in Oz for Gigantour down there last time, and I am honoured to be able to try my hand at this with Wayne and Koichi. More...
