Kiss Force Kittie to Change Label Name

AOL Music Blog reports: The ladies in Kittie recently decided to go the DIY route to release their music, and formed a label called Kiss of Infamy -- a tag that the lawyers for Kiss Catalog Limited insisted might confuse the (evidently easily-mystified) Kiss Army into accidentally purchasing merchandise that wouldn't directly benefit their clients. Confronted with the cease-and-desist, and the realization that Canadian dollars don't buy very much in the way of American lawyers' fees, Kittie opted to change the name of the imprint to X of Infamy.

Kittie Issues Studio Update

KITTIE drummer Mercedes Lander has issued the following update:

"As you all may have guessed we are back from [the recording studio in] New Jerssey and our new album is all finished. I must say that it sounds absolutely amazing and I think you all will be as pleased as we are with the finished album. I can't wait for you all to hear it, but that won't happen until at least March of 2007. Also be on the lookout for new updated on the track listing and album title in the near future. We will be putting up some full songs on our MySpace page hopefully soon so you guys can have a taste of whats to come with the new album. On top of that, Morgan [Lander, guitar/vocals] and I have been working with a very talented artist and are in the process of putting the finishing touches on some killer album artwork, so be on the look out for a preview of that as well.

"Thank you guys so much for all the amazing feedback we have been getting from the demo clips we put up a while back. Those songs will be on the new album, so dont fret."

Kittie To Begin Mixing New Album Today

Veteran producer Kevin Shirley (IRON MAIDEN, DREAM THEATER, H.I.M.) is scheduled to begin mixing the new KITTIE album today (Tuesday, September 5).

KITTIE entered Retromedia Studios in Red Bank, New Jersey studio in July with producer Jack Ponti (BON JOVI, DORO, SKID ROW, ALICE COOPER) to begin recording the CD — the band's first since its split with longtime home Artemis Records. Songtitles set to appear on the new CD include "Never Again", "Funeral For Yesterday", "The Change", "Breathe", "Last Goodbye", "Slow Motion" and "Flowers of Flesh and Blood". A March 2007 release through the group's own label, dubbed Kiss of Infamy Records, is expected.

KITTIE's downloadable EP, entitled "Never Again", was released in February through Rock Ridge Music. iTunes is offering an exclusive four-track version of the EP, which includes bonus track "Everything That Could Have Been".

Kittie To Release New Album On Own Label

Canadian rock act Kittie has finished recording its fourth album and intends to independently release it in March 2007 on its own record label, Kiss of Infamy. Billboard.com got the first listen to the new material at Retro Sound Studio in Red Bank, N.J., where Kittie recorded the as-yet-untitled album with producer Jack Ponti (Alice Cooper, Doro).

"I think we really just wanted to show off what we've been doing these past few years for people [who] thought we had dropped off the face of the earth," singer Morgan Lander says of the record. "We've toured a lot, we've become an amazing band, we've become really tight [and] we're a completely different beast than we were."

Lander and her sister, Mercedes (who plays drums), have continued forging ahead with the band since it settled a breach of contract suit with former label Artemis Records and parent Sheridan Square Entertainment in March 2003 and officially left the label in April 2005. This year, they have also put out a digital EP, added new members Tara McLeod (guitar) and Trish Doan (bass), and embarked on a 50-show club tour of the United States. More...

Kittie Recording New Album, Start Own Label

Kittie are currently in Retro Media Sound Studio in Red Bank, New Jersey, recording their fourth full-length release.

Industry veteran producer Jack Ponti, who has worked with Bon Jovi, Doro, Baton Rouge, and Alice Cooper, will produce the record. The album will be released on Kittie’s own label, Kiss of Infamy. Kevin Shirley, who has worked with Jimmy Page as well as Slayer, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Dream Theater, will mix the album.

“Starting our own label is an amazing feeling,” said guitarist vocalist Morgan Lander. “We have always been entrepreneurs of sorts, so this path really made sense. I cannot tell you how lucky we are that Jack chose to come out of retirement to do this album with us. He taught us a lot about recording, about how less is always more, about improving sound with different microphone placement, and the importance of focusing on one song at a time. Jack is also a master at arranging vocal harmonies, which is something we have never really experimented with.”

“This album has so many more dimensions than anything we have ever done before,” said Lander. “The harmonies are huge and lush, and the guitars are crushing and complex all at the same time. The bass is smooth and complimentary to the ridiculously fast and precise drums and allows the song to just open up. There is so much more going on now musically rather than two guitars playing the same riffs.”

Some of the song titles for the album are: “Never Again,” “Funeral For Yesterday,” “The Change,” “Breathe,” “Last Goodbye,” “Slow Motion,” and “Flowers of Flesh and Blood.”

“This album is sort of a concept album in a way,” said Lander. “All of the songs were written over a period of about a year and a half and they all revolve around dying, death, and the promise of resurrection. The subject matter is a direct result of what Mercedes and I were going through personally and professionally these past few years - dealing with life on the road, personnel changes, deceit, hopelessness and an overall feeling of "is this the end." Death of one kind or another - be it literally, figuratively, or emotionally - has been at the center of our lives these past few years. But you must have death before you have resurrection and I feel the band is in its resurrection stage - a new hope, a new light and a rebirth.”

Kittie’s yet untitled album will be released March 2007.

Kittie comes to West Virginia

I had the opportunity to check out Kittie at the Huntington Music Hall (aka Monkey Bar) on April 4th. The place was packed too, especially for a Tuesday night, about three hundred people rocking out. Unfortunately I arrived late to the show, very late. Though I did manage to catch the last five and a half songs of Kittie’s set.
