Scale The Summit have announced they will be supporting Between the Buried and Me on a North American tour along with Cynic and The Devin Townsend Project.
Guitarist Chris Letchford commented: "We're touring with Between The Buried And Me, Cynic and Devin Townsend! We have been wanting to tour with Between The Buried And Me for years now. The second I heard news of Cynic reforming and hearing their amazing new album, I never thought a package like this would come together, very glad their back! Then there is Devin Townsend. The last time I saw Devin play was with Strapping Young Lad when I was 16, which was over 9 years ago! Never would have thought we'd tour together. This tour is not one you'll want to miss. Best tour of 2010 by far!"

The Noctis III Metal Festival in Calgary, Alta. is ready to unleash a two-day extravaganza of high-octane metal, and Canada’s first ever metal conference.
The conference impacts the city Oct. 2, with a host of internationally acclaimed guest speakers and panelists, including former Megadeth founder and bassist David Ellefson, world-renowned music journalist Martin Popoff, Paul Masvidal of Cynic, David Gold from Ontario Canada’s doom outfit Woods of Ypres and Megawatt Mayhem co-hosts JP Wood and Kevin Woron.
Some of the scheduled topics cover what it takes to get signed these days, tips on landing tours, how to get endorsements and distribution deals, how to promote your band, DIY recording, metal concert photography, and the future of metal journalism.
Following the conference is an 18+ club night showcase at one of Calgary’s premier metal venues, The Distillery, where headliners Novembers Doom, Slough Feg and Ares Kingdom will be sharing the stage with local acts Kilyakai, Norrath, Truck and Tosca, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The two-stage main festival on Oct. 3 takes place at the University of Calgary. Cynic, Suffocation, Destroyer 666 and Aura Noir are among the acts scheduled to brutalize MacEwan Hall, while just a few strides away at The Den, Edmonton’s Death Toll Rising tears things up with A Bloodshed Nightmare from Siksika Nation, and Calgary’s Sacred Ally, Akakor, HROM and Fornication.
“(It’s) another show in Canada, which tend to be great shows for us, and the promoters having a keen interest in us and what we do,” enthuses Cynic's Masvidal. “They asked us if we’d like to speak and discuss songwriting and our creative process, and I was completely open to that. I thought it’d be interesting, and just being part of a collective seems cool. One of our managers is gonna be there, the head of our label is gonna be there, so it’s kind of a team effort.”
More info on the event, including complete list of bands and guest speakers, can be found online at www.noctisvalkyries.com.
In the latest entry of his "Jumping Darkness Parade" blog for MetalSucks, DAATH guitarist Eyal Levi has revealed that he and fellow DAATH shredder Emil Werstler are working on a record with CYNIC drummer Sein Reinert, to be released on Magna Carta Records in Spring 2010. He also revealed that DAATH will return to the studio in April 2010 to begin recording their follow-up to "The Concealers." An excerpt from the blog follows:
"I’ve had music writing on my mind a lot these days. Maybe its because I have a lot on my plate. The record I’m doing with Emil from DAATH and Cynic’s Sean Reinert needs to be delivered by the first of the year. It’s going to be released in the spring of 2010. My side project wants to record an EP of still to be written material this December. And last but not least, DAATH is looking to go into the studio in April to record our next one. We’d like for it to be out by the end of Summer 2010.
"That’s a shit load of music to write in a very short period of time if you consider that we’re still touring. Some advice I get from people is 'Don’t rush.' That's good advice. None of this is going to be rushed and it will all get what it needs and wants so that it can grow into the work of art it deserves to become. I think I've figured out how to write on the road and this next tour will be the perfect situation for that. We are sharing the bus with a straightedge band. Can't be partying like usual because my health could relapse. Instead of staring into space and wishing I could party, I'll occupy my time with creative things. So I’ll be writing music on the road. And a lot of it!"

Atlanta based quintet DAATH is about to unleash their brand-new album “The Concealers”, which will be released on April 20th (Europe) and April 21st (US). The band just filmed a video for the song “Day Of Endless Light” with director Robin Fuller (Ghost Of A Thousand, Shaped By Fate) and you can now check out some photos from the shoot at the band's myspace page.
Eyal Levi (guitars) further states:
“I hate music videos. Always have. There’s been a few exceptions over the years like the old Tool videos or White Stripes videos but for the most part they suck. Especially metal videos. How many times can we watch a group of burly dudes throwing down in a warehouse or abandoned building? With this video that was the LAST thing I wanted for us. I set out to find a team that would give us an actual work of art which could be watched and enjoyed regardless of the music. We ended up with Robin Fuller directing. We chose him because of his amazing animation skills and overall enthusiasm for the vision. The vision was to have a video shot in the style of a Frank Miller film (Sin City) and have those shots interwoven with the art and design that Jorden Haley has created for us with “The Concealers”. This will not be your typical metal video.”
In addition to that, the band has posted the brand-new track “Silenced” from the forthcoming album “The Concealers” which can be found on the band's Myspace as well.
Right on time with the album’s release, DAATH will be touring the US in April/May with Dragonforce and Cynic. Visit their MySpace page to view the full list of dates. Also, the following European festivals have been confirmed:
August 7, 2009 – Bad Berka (D) @ Party San Open Air
August 14, 2009 – Dinkelsbühl (D) @ Summer Breeze Festival
August 16, 2009 – Derby (UK) @ Bloodstock Open Air
Earlier in the year Metal Underground presented its annual “Best Of” awards and with his finger always on the pulse, deathbringer mentioned a new dominance in metal leading us into 2009. Maybe you’ve noticed the extra acoustic interludes, the blazing shred solos, the disjointed poly-rhythms or maybe you haven’t - but either way a cloud of progressive influence has undoubtedly emerged over the metal scene. Not just in our minds here at MU, but in the minds of fans Opeth, Cynic, Meshuggah, Nachtmystium and Ihsahn stood out with impressive 2008 releases. Even more excitement and interest has been generated by collaborations between Ihsahn and Opeth, and 2009 hasn’t let up with Mastodon’s progressive opus “Crack The Skye” and Obscura’s “Cosmogenesis” leading the charge.
So what magic is at work here aside from great prog-metal releases? Larger bands such as the explosive power metal act DragonForce and progressive groovers Mastodon have played a large part in the uprising of the pursuit of extreme talent for more mainstream metal fans - opening legions of otherwise clueless greenhorns to the bar of instrumental ability. Old hands such as Deicide, Cannibal Corpse and numerous thrash acts have also not been untouched by the progressive aura and have regained the thirst for pushing technical boundaries - a truly founding ideal of metal if ever there was one. Another force at play here is the power the internet has had in exposing technical freak shows like Necrophagist as well as many young tech-metal heads being introduced to metal and fostered through 90s progressive acts such as Tool or Dream Theater. Not enough for you? Let’s take a little trip back in time then. More...
Daath has announced that they will not be able to play at the House of Blues show in California on their upcoming tour with Cynic and Dragonforce. The band issued the following statement about the cancelation:
"Apparently Disney doesn’t like us very much. We don’t know why, because they wouldn’t tell us but we know they don’t. And how do we know they don’t? Because they kicked us off the April 15th Anaheim House Of Blues show. I’m not going to bother justifying ourselves in light of this. Only thing I can do is give a sincere apology to any of our fans who spent money to come and see us. We will be back in the area very soon I promise."
The band will continue on the Cynic / Dragonforce tour with their appearance April 17th in Boise, Idaho at Knitting Factory and continue for the duration of the tour.

The release date for "Traced in Air", the new album from reunited progressive metallers CYNIC originally slated for late October, had to be pushed back to November 17th (November 25th in the US), for manufacturing reasons.
Read guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal's comment: "When Season of Mist made us aware of the release date change, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to spread the word even more about this album. Sean and I are extremely proud of the new record and are looking forward to sharing it with CYNIC fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer. We're thrilled about touring with OPETH next month in Europe, and of course the US tour beginning in January is going to be on fire!"
Season of Mist has posted an MP3 of a brand new Cynic song, "Integral Birth," off the band's upcoming "Traced In Air" album. "Traced In Air" is scheduled to hit record stores on October 27th. The album contains eight songs and clocks in at around thirty five minutes long.
The special box set edition of "Traced in Air", strictly limited to 1000 copies worldwide, is available exclusively through the Season of Mist mailorder here.
The limited edition package contains:
"Traced in Air" in acrylic DVD case
USB flash drive
Cynic guitar pick
pull out large full color poster of album cover painting
exclusive stickers with Venosa artwork from the record
The book is a one of a kind translucent 20 page journal booklet (magnifying glass included), with personal notes, lyric sketches, rare photos, thoughts and dreams taken directly from CYNIC's universe, mostly consisting of Paul Masvidal's personal journals which tell the story of "Traced in Air" and his own creative process as a songwriter.
To US residents: the box should be sold on via the Century Media and Relapse mailorders, which should help you save on shipping costs.
Season of Mist bands Cynic and Atrox have been confirmed for the upcoming ProgPower Europe festival. Cynic will headline the festival on Saturday, October 4th and Norwegian experimental metallers Atrox will play on October 3rd.
Finland's Ghost Brigade has cancelled its appearance due to financial and logistical reasons, however.
