Kamelot To Unveil New Vocalist This Summer

Kamelot Germany has posted a new interview online with Thomas Youngblood, in which he discusses the band's turbulent last year and plans to unveil a new vocalist during Summer festival season. Excerpts from the interview follow:

Kamelot Germany: Last year was a turbulent year for Kamelot, but also very exciting with three very successful tours in Europe, South America and North America. What where your personal most memorable tour moments of 2011?

Thomas Youngblood: There were so many, some of my favorites were Santiago Chile, first show of the touring season. SOLD OUT shows like Amsterdam, New York, Montreal and Oslo, with the Kamelot Nation in full force, Salt Lake City, Utah, where we never played before and the crowd was soooo loud. There were so many amazing nights last year, all of them were really special. The touring was really a great kick for us to get back to the studio and come back asap.

KG: Writing the new album is already underway, with a planned release date for September 2012. How is it going so far?

TY: Going great, we have around 6-7 songs ready for preproduction. Oliver and I will do another songwriting session soon, we are still looking at locations. Maybe Thailand or Norway. Cold or Hot, which one to choose? Following that we will be in Germany for a few months with Sascha working on the album, along with Miro, Olaf and the usual crew there that has been with us since Karma. Special guests are being discussed now, it will be a blast, I’m looking forward to it!

KG: The deadline for submissions to become the new singer of Kamelot is by the end of January. How is the audition process going and when do you plan to announce the new singer?

TY: Auditions are going great, I think we have around 800 emails and submissions. We will not announce the new singer until later when the album is nearly finished being recorded. Unless of course it gets leaked, which these days is not too difficult. The new “Official” singer will be debuted at the Summer Festivals.

Kamelot Gearing Up To Record New Album

Kamelot has checked in with the following announcement about gearing up to enter the studio and continuing to search for a new vocalist:

"Hi Kamelotians! The band is busy working on new songs and continuing to review audition videos for the singer position. We are getting real close to making a choice, there are some amazingly talented singers out there. We are taking our time on this, the vocals for the new album will be done last, like always. So there is no rush to make the decision now.

"Kamelot will return to Gate Studios/Germany starting in January with Sascha Paeth producing. The production is expected to be several months long and will include special guests, orchestra arrangements and much more. This album will be the follow up to ‘Poetry for the Poisoned’. The new songs are really coming along great, lots of variation, melody and energy.

Kamelot Guitarist: "We Needed Jon to Play Zodiac"

Mark Morton of the Examiner posted a new interview with guitarist Thomas Youngblood of Kamelot prior to embarking on the "Pandemonium Over North America" tour with Alestorm, Blackguard and The Agonist this week.

Youngblood talked about recruiting the Mountain King Jon Oliva to play the part of "Zodiac:"

"Well, it was all very coincidental. We basically had everyone we had talked about having on the record finish their parts. And we were working on “The Zodiac,” and one of the lines struck me as something that Jon would sing. And I then felt that we needed someone to portray this character of the Zodiac Killer.

"Jon has this signature, evil-sounding voice that is just amazing and instantly recognizable. So I decided to contact Jon to see if he would be interested in doing it. As well, Casey had played some parts on his latest album. So everything happened really fast; he said he’d love to do it, and within a couple of weeks, everything was finished and worked out great!"

Youngblood was asked about the struggles to break into the American scene (despite being a largely American act):

"I mean, six years ago, nobody who sounds like us would have ever been able to tour the States. It’s not quite where we want it to be, but it’s still growing here. I think it’s more of an awareness thing than anything; the country is just so geographically big that it’s really hard to market a band without the mass-marketing that bands like Linkin Park used to get. Whereas, in Europe, you can get centralized marketing for Germany, or Holland, or wherever. I think that’s been the main issue with any band that is like Kamelot." More...

Kamelot Guitarist Comments On Forthcoming Album

Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood recently offered the following update about the next Kamelot full length album:

"There's gonna be some new twists and turns, of course, with the vocals and stuff like that. I think what we're gonna do is kind of go back a little bit to what we did with 'The Black Halo' and 'Ghost Opera', but then, of course, add new elements, more theatrical things. We've got about two songs already written, and after the U.S. tour in September, we're gonna be full force into writing the new album."
