Helloween Announces "Pumpkins United" Reunion

Here comes the sensation for all Hellowen fans: You believed in it for years and continued to ask for it – now is the time: In fall 2017, Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen will once again mount a Hellowen stage together and resurrect the band’s legendary original line-up.

Yes, it’s official: Weikath, Kiske, Hansen, Grosskopf are going to play Hellowen classics live and on a joint tour. Massive news. Awesome. But you might want to sit down again, because that’s not all of it! Under the flag Pumpkins United all pumpkin heads will step up – meaning Andi & Kiske on vocals, Kai & Weiki & Sascha on guitars, and Markus & Dani in the rhythm section.

The super tour’s first confirmed date is October 28, 2017 in Sao Paulo and takes the full Pumpkins entourage across selected cities and venues in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the US. An extremely big deal, which, including a few secret surprises, will present almost three hours of the biggest hits from three decades of Hellowen as the band will obviously insist on performing a full-speed trip through the Hellowen repertoire. "We already had an awesome time on the Hellish Rock part 1 & 2, but this time we’ll definitely double down on it" says Kai Hansen, and Markus Grosskopf adds: "There’ll for sure be songs that we haven’t played in a very long time or even ever before." Helloween Announces Lineup Reunion

This was obviously an April Fool's gag. For the full list of our 2016 jokes, head here.

German power metal pioneers Helloween have been long rumored to have a reunion of the band's "Keeper of the Seven Keys" lineup with former vocalist Michael Kiske at the helm. Today, the band confirmed a reunion is indeed in the works! However, the reunion is of the majority of the classic "Walls of Jericho" lineup, featuring Kai Hansen, Michael Weikath, Markus Grosskopf. Uli Kusch, who played with the band from 1994-2001, following the death of original drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg, will be tapped for the drums.

Guitarist/vocalist Kai Hansen explained: "Originally, Weiki intended on having Michael back, but his commitments with Avantasia would have delayed this further than he wanted the fans to wait. Gamma Ray is currently writing new material, so the time was right to give the real early Helloween fans a treat."

The lineup was originally going to go under the moniker "Gorgar," but vocalist Andi Deris was so excited about the idea that he gave his blessing to just use Helloween. Deris commented: "I was pumped for the possibility of Michael Kiske returning, but to have Kai back on vocals...I mean, how can I argue with that!"

On whether this would affect the band's current lineup, band leader Michael Weiketh stated: "Not at all. Andi and Dani will get a well deserved break from action and we will regroup by Halloween 2017 to begin work on the follow up to 'My God Given Right.'"

Helloween plans to release one album under this lineup, which is due out by February 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records. It will be followed by a summer world tour featuring songs from both the new album and "Walls of Jericho." The album will be produced, engineered and mixed by Harris Johns, who worked with the band on "Walls of Jericho." The band has also tapped "Walls of Jericho" artists Uwe & Edda Karczewski to create the new album's artwork. More...

Helloween Releases New Video

Helloween will release 15th studio album "My God-Given Right" on May 29th (EU), June 1st (UK), and June 2nd (US).

Today, Helloween premieres a new music video for "My God-Given Right" - check it out below, courtesy of Blabbermouth.net. Director Oliver Sommer (AVA Studios) comments:

"The story tells itself with the first look on the artwork: it seems to be a film still and you only have to press the play button… So the female protagonist flees - reminiscences to different (post)apocalyptic films and stories are deliberated - from an army of robotic pumpkin soldiers through an empty world. On the other side, the band performs in frightfully beautiful, rocked out ambience.

"When the tough girl realizes that she won't escape, she turns around and kills her chasers with a grenade which looks like the torch from the Statue of Liberty… it is immersed in snow on the cover artwork and in sand in the clip. Our post-apocalyptic world is a white desert, which exists in reality in Germany. The industrial disaster area, our hero is fleeing in and the band is performing in, is an incredible and giant area of the ex-steelworks (heavy metal!) Maxhütte - both locations are real wastelands…!? More...

Helloween Announces Title, Reveals Art For New LP

German metal legends Helloween have announced that the 14th studio release will be entitled "My God-Given Right." The album is set to drop on May 29th via Nuclear Blast Records. The album will be available in CD, digipak, earbook and colored vinyl editions, which can all be pre-ordered at this location.

"My God-Given Right" was recorded between October 2014 and February 2015 at the bands very own MiSueno Studio in Tenerife, with long term producer Charlie Bauerfeind (Blind Guardian, Hammerfall) handling production and recording duties.

The cover art (shown below) was created by Martin Häusler, who commented on the recent creation: “We tried to built a world of ideas, keeping the 'classical Helloween' elements, like the pumpkins on the one hand and a complete new look on the other, just like we did it the years before, working on a Helloween artwork. A first inspiration came from the album title 'My God-Given Right' and some of the song titles like ‘Swing Of A Fallen World’, ‘Lost In America’, ‘Battle´s Won’ etc. During my research I stumbled upon the Blockbuster 'Day After Tomorrow' and the idea of just leaving the world to the 'pumpkins' was born. The most challenging part of this artwork was to have both, the Limited Edition and the 11" Earbook provided with a 3D-Lenticular-cover (a full 3D cover, visible without 3D glasses). That’s the reason the entire artwork was done 'in one piece', using a 3D program…we did not want one of those 'cheap Lenticular-covers, done by converting a 2d-version', but the best possible real 3D result: So don’t get any other versions – this will be a true collector’s item!” More...

Helloween Signs With Nuclear Blast

Germany's Helloween, founded in 1984, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The band's latest studio album "Straight Out Of Hell," charted at a sensational #4, the band's highest German chart entry to date, holding this position for five weeks. Additionally Helloween made another five top ten entries in Europe and also cracked the U.S. Billboard Charts.

Now Helloween returns to its old label home Nuclear Blast, where the band previously released two albums - "The Dark Ride" (2000) and "Rabbit Don’t Come Easy" (2003) - both of which have just been re-issued with extended bonus material.

Nuclear Blast label owner Markus Staiger comments: “We are more than proud, that Helloween is part of the Nuclear Blast family again. All those years we had a friendship-like connection and ways crossed on a regular basis at concerts and festivals. Helloween to us is a matter of the heart, there’s not only the two records to mention, but an act that influenced me and many of our employees. Together there are big plans and we are looking forward to having another productive and successful cooperation.”

The band itself is equally celebratory. Vocalist Andi Deris states: “As a label, Nuclear Blast is 'Heavy Metal to the bone,' and we are really looking forward to working together with a lot of familiar faces.” More...
