Shane Blay To Remain With Oh, Sleeper

"To put to rest the rumors that I'm leaving Oh Sleeper I tell you this: Micah and I started this band 8 years ago and have stayed with it through the thick and thin. That is still the case. Its tattoo'd on my chest for crying out loud. As long as Oh Sleeper is a band, I'll be in it."

As I Lay Dying Issues Band Update

Update: despite appearing to come from the other band members, this statement was apparently written by Tim Lambesis with no input from the other members of As I Lay Dying. Check out Nick Hipa's response over here.

With Tim Lambesis likely to be incarcerated for serious time in a murder-for-hire plot to kill his ex-wife, the future of As I Lay Dying seemed bleak.

As I Lay Dying has now checked in with the following update about the band's status and the members working on new projects:

"There have been a lot of questions from fans over the past year and we'll hopefully be able to provide more answers over time. However, this update is only to address things related to AILD's future.

"Originally, we said we'd update fans as soon as we knew more. We apologize for not sticking to that. It seemed best to wait until definitive news came in with a specific timeline. However, in light of speculation on other sites, an official update from As I Lay Dying seems to be the best way to clarify some things.

"A good starting point is to clarify some things that have often been falsely reported. Tim was not a Christian at the time of his arrest, nor was As I Lay Dying a Christian band in 2013. It hadn't been for some time and, to the best of my knowledge, only one of the people playing in the band even claimed to be a Christian at that time. The changed view had been written about it in a handful of As I Lay Dying songs and Tim's later atheistic view had even been documented in court records. However, it doesn't make as sensational of a headline to refer to the arrest of the 'Ex-Christian Metal Sub-Genre Independent Artist' as it does the 'Grammy Nominated Top 10 Selling Christian Rockstar' of the past.

"With all that said, we don't know how each musician from the previous era of As I Lay Dying will think about these topics in the future. For example, Tim has spent much of the last year reevaluating what originally convinced him to abandon belief in God. I have gathered that after much brokenness and repentance he sees things differently, considers himself a follower of Jesus, someone submitted to the will of God, or whatever you want to call it. That's for him to talk about when he's comfortable and only time will tell if he is sincere. What is certain though is that it's impossible to face the events of last year without being changed in some way. Let's let the guys focus on future music and hopefully the headline driven press will leave this issue alone for a while given some clarification. More...

Oh, Sleeper Reveals New Album Details

Christian act Oh, Sleeper has announced the release of the band's third studio album, "Children of Fire," on September 27th via Solid State Records. The band has premiered a new song online titled “Endseekers," which can be heard in the player below.

The album was produced by Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder, Haste The Day) and mixed by Machine (Lamb of God, Chiodos). “With every record we try to push the limits of what we can do with our sound,” says guitarist James Erwin. “This record is an expansion of our sound and the best incarnation of the band to date. Also this is the most in depth we ever taken a concept record. Instead of 12 different stories that tie together around one theme, this album is one complete story where every track acts as a chapter in that story. Listeners will really have to grasp every part of the story to understand it fully.”

"Children of Fire is being established as a flag to rally under,” says vocalist Kinard. “The name, to us, represents a generation born into a time that forced them to band together, stand firm in their beliefs against modern ideology and skepticism, and prevail as a victorious few, holding true to the beliefs held deep in their hearts. Children of Fire is a title that means nothing less than unshakeable and end-seeking determination. The character represented throughout the album endures a perilous journey testing any and all weaknesses she possesses. It isn't until the end, when she has faced every fear and answered every question planted deep in her mind that she emerges a beaten, battered, and bloody, but victorious, child of fire.”

“When we started talking about this record before it was written we all kept coming back to the fact that we want this record to just be punishing,” Erwin adds. “That word 'punishing' just kept coming up, I think we've accomplished that. Also, the musicianship and vocal performances have never been stronger. Lots of techy stuff for the guitar and drum nerds. Micah and Shane both took their vocals to the next level. I think fans are gonna be blown away at what they've done vocally.” More...
