The latest round of additions to the continually-expanding lineup for 2014's installment of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival has been disclosed, including Massachusetts' own '90s hardcore punk act, Sam Black Church.
Confirmed as one of the main headliners of the event's third night, Saturday, April 19th, Sam Black Church's set at NEMHF 2014 will mark only the third performance since the group initially disbanded at the turn of the century, and first in Central Massachusetts since the late '90s.
Stated the band upon being asked to take part in the massive event this Spring: "It is amazing what the man we used to know as Ogre has done with the New England Metalfest! We are fucking excited to be a part of it once again!"
The organizers of the fest comment: "Formed in Boston, in June of 1988 by Jesse "Jet" Crandall (vocals), Ben Crandall (guitar), Richard G. Lewis (bass), and J.R. Roach (drums), Sam Black Church was known for their energetic live performances, playing a frenetic blend of hardcore, metal, and thrash. Over the years sharing bills with bands as diverse as Bad Brains, Clutch, Motörhead, Cro-Mags, Fear, and Helmet, they were one of the most popular hardcore bands in the Northeast United States during the 1990s. After releasing three full-lengths on Taang! Records, they left to join Wonderdrug where they remained until they retired in 2000 after releasing a total of seven albums. Since disbanding, Sam Black Church reunited for a sold-out show on September 22, 2007, at The Roxy in Boston, and played a another sold-out performance at Hometown Throwdown #16 with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at House of Blues in Boston on December 29th, 2013. A documentary of their career by Duncan Wilder Johnson entitled Leave Behind a Groove in the Earth is scheduled for release in 2014."
Also now confirmed to invade this year's festival are Oceano, Scars of Tomorrow, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, InDirections, and Julius Seizure on Thursday, April 17th, and Reflections on Friday, April 18th. The setup for Saturday, April 19th has also been lengthened with Texas In July, Obey The Brave and the aforementioned Sam Black Church performance. On October 29th at the storied War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, TN, a rather unusual tour lineup shook things up a bit. Asking Alexandria rolled in, bringing All That Remains with them, along with the veterans of Sevendust, as well as the younger For Today and Emmure. If the lineup didn’t involve Sevendust or All That Remains, it would have made more sense. All That Remains wasn’t stretching it, really, but including Sevendust with this largely metalcore bunch? I scratched my head at that choice.
It was a bizarre experience. More...

Emmure - which is easily the favorite band of all Metalunderground.com readers after Avenged Sevenfold - plans to enter the studio later this year.
The band's sixth full-length album for Victory Records will be released Spring 2014 and follows the previous "Slave To The Game" album (reviewed here). The real question of course, is whether any tracks this time around will be able to surpass the lyrical brilliance of the infamous "Drug Dealer Friend."
Emmure will be closing out 2013 by headlining the Never Say Die Tour in Europe (October 4th to 26th) and then a full U.S. tour (October 29th to November 22nd) alongside Asking Alexandria, Sevendust, All That Remains, and For Today.
Guitarist and founding member Jesse Ketive stated, “We couldn’t be happier to announce that following Never Say Die! and the Asking Alexandria Tour we will be heading into the studio to work on the new album which is aimed for a Spring release! We have been working hard in between our rigorous world touring schedule this past year and a half and we can’t wait to unveil new material. We have resigned to Victory Records and there will be a lot of new things developing for EMMURE through the end of the year. Thank you for your constant support through the years and we promise to deliver one of the best Emmure records to date. See you on tour.” More...

Ben Bruce (guitars) states: "AMERICA! We are back and have returned with our biggest line-up to date. Bigger songs, bigger bands, louder shows and more rock than the fucking Swiss Alps. We can't wait to bring this new live show to the masses. We will be playing songs spanning our entire catalog, and of course a shit-ton of new songs from our new album From Death to Destiny. We have never been more excited to headline a tour. It's an honor to be touring with such great bands and we know you are going to love all of them. We have the perfect line-up for you to mosh to, sing along to, bounce to and bang your fucking head to. We're back and we're better than ever. See you all very soon."

Jägermeister has been a proud sponsor of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival since its inception and this year is no different.
This year the festival stage is being headlined by Machine Head, a legendary JagerWorld experience, The Metal of Honor Award, the brand’s first-ever Guitar Shred-Meister competition, Celebrity Chef signings, and daily artist signings for those of legal drinking age.
Chef Chris Santos will join the 2013 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the remainder of the summer, where he will be taking part in signings at the Jägermeister booth, co-hosting the Shred-Meister competition, cooking Jägermeister-infused recipes at the official after-parties and for artists, and whipping up private meals for the headlining artists.
“I'm beyond excited to be joining the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival on behalf of Jagermeister and to spread the word about the Jägermeister 'Charred' BBQ Contest happening this summer,” states Santos. “I'll be doing signings daily and roaming the festival all day so if you see me grab me and say hello and we'll chat about Jäger or hit the pit!”
The chef's appearances are all a part of the “Charred, Earn your Place at the Pit” BBQ Competition, a search for the best grill recipes incorporating Jägermeister. The challenge, which kicked off in June, is divided into three categories: Cow, Bird, and Hog, from which Santos selects one winner per category. More...
My personal confessions are less about what I enjoy that would shred my credibility through a wood chipper and more about which bands I used to despise that I'd never talk shit about today. Namely, I used to really hate System of a Down, Iron Maiden, Behemoth and Chimaira. After only hearing a handful of songs from each, I decided that all were overrated before actually giving their discography a real chance.
Holy shit did I regret that later on after listening to Chimaira's self-titled album, Iron Maiden's “Powerslave”, “Zos Kia Cultus,” and the entirety of “Toxicity” (although I still maintain that “Chop Suey” has always been overrated and overplayed and I'm not a fan of the title track on “Resurrection”).
It's hard to look at yourself after talking shit about music that you were completely ignorant about. Eventually, I moved on to "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son,” “Resurrection,” and “Steal This Album” and realized that I was talking out my ass and sounded like one of those guys who calls eurodance “techno” but has never listened to speedcore or confuses hip-hop with R&B. This year's edition of the German Summer Breeze festival will take place from August 15th - 17th, 2013. The organizers of the festival have now issued the following announcement about two bands dropping off the bill and being replaced by other groups:
"Unfortunately we have to inform you that Emmure and Nachtmystium have cancelled their appearance at Summer Breeze 2013. Our apologies to all those who were looking forward to seeing them. We will not rest until we can book the bands again for Summer Breeze in the years to come. The good news: We have already managed to find a replacement.
"Family reunion at Summer Breeze: Freddy Cricien, half brother of Agnostic Front singer and hardcore legend Roger Miret, will appear in Dinkelsbühl with his brutal troop Madball. The New York hardcore stalwarts are bringing loads of stage action and the heaviest of hardcore, so all you divers and moshpit enthusiasts out there better get ready! In top form – only recently they headlined the successful Rebellion Tour 2013 – Cricien and company will (hopefully!) deliver a selection of their discography's best songs. Although Madball always kill, no matter what they play! D'accord?!
"People like to call them avantgarde black metal, but the Mainz band isn't really comfortable with that label. Whatever you want to call them though, fact is Nocte Abdcuta will present their brand new album 'Umbriel (Das Schweigen zwischen den Sternen)' live at Summer Breeze 2013. All disciples of gloom can look forward to an uncompromising experimental show with a dense armosphere and a whole load of melancholy, but (hopefully) also an excursion into the German's brutal past. However, no matter which songs get played, no one will crawl back into their tents disappointed after the Nocte Abducta show in Dinkelsbühl."
