German melodic power metal act PowerWorld has announced that the band's third LP will be entitled "Cybersteria." The album was produced by Ilker Ersin at his MusikundWeb studios in Hirschaid near Bamberg, Germany, and mastered by Tommy Newton (Victory/UFO). "Cybersteria" will be released in Germany on May 24th, in Europe on May 27th and in the US/Canada on June 4th through SPV/Steamhammer as CD and digital download.
"Cybersteria" is a conceptual album (a combination of "cyber" and "hysteria"). The press release reads: "What was considered as Orwellian fiction back in 1984 has become reality in 2013 - the surveillance society. In times of Facebook and Skype, true privacy seems to exist only where exposure through the media is consistently rejected."
Mastermind Ersin states: "There's almost a kind of hysteria when it comes to the Internet and digital pseudo-realities. Our new songs aren't a concept album in the narrower sense, but as usual the whole album is held together by a central theme. This time the leitmotif is emotional impoverishment which is increasingly supported by the new media. At the end of the day, social networks have the opposite effect of what they suggest: they make people grow lonely."
The instruments were recorded by Ersin, guitarist Andreas Rippelmeier, keyboardist Marco Grasshoff, drummer Guido Gallus and the band's new vocalist Michael Bormann (ex-Jaded Heart). Bormann stepped in on short notice for David Reece, after his split with the band. More...
German melodic metal band Powerworld posted a video studio report on the recordings for the followup to the 2010 release "Human Parasite." The vocal recordings with new vocalist David Reece, who replaced the late Andrew "Mac" McDermott, have been completed and the album is tentatively targeted for a March 2013 release through SPV Records.
Check out the report here:
German metal band Powerworld has enlisted American vocalist David Reece (Accept, Bangalore Choir) to replace Andrew "Mac" McDermott, who recorded the vocal parts on the band's second album "Human Parasite" in 2010 and passed away in August 2011.
Rumors that interim shouter Michael Bormann would sing on the upcoming album have proved unfounded. Bassist Ilker Ersincomments : "It's true that we briefly toyed with the idea, but for various reasons we decided not to follow it up." Ersin is all the more happy about his new colleague, David Reece: "It's an amazing experience for me to be working with an American instead of a European musician for the first time in my career, especially since David is an experienced vocalist. The first songs he recorded for Powerworld have confirmed my expectations."
Reece, who succeeded Udo Dirkschneider on the Accept album "Eat The Heat" in 1989, went on to tour with Accept and then founded Bangalore Choir before releasing his solo debut "Universal Language" three years ago. Reece comments: "Powerworld sounds more progressive and intense than the stuff I recently worked on. I feel that my voice suits their material perfectly, and I'll work hard on delivering my optimum performance. I'm glad to be back home, because being married to a German woman, Germany is my favorite country in Europe."
The new album will be called "Virtuality" and has been scheduled for release in spring 2013. According to Ersin, it's not a concept album but a recording which "reflects the madness in the virtual and also in the real world." Stylistically, Virtuality is a mix of modern metal with progressive influences and classic hard rock. Reece states: "We can hardly wait to introduce the new material to our fans and go on stage with them as soon as possible, particularly since we have found our ideal record company in SPV."
German melodic metal band Powerworld will announce the band's new vocalist on Monday, October 8, 2012. The band's latest LP "Human Parasite" featured the late Andrew "Mac" McDermott (Threshold) who passed away last August.
A short video was posted by the band, which hints at some news about the new album. Check it out here:
Andrew 'Mac' McDermott, the former lead singer of British heavy metal outfit Threshold, passed away yesterday in England. A condolence page has been set up for the vocalist, which you can visit by clicking here. McDermott has reportedly been suffering from "serious health problems" for a while, which resulted in him leaving the band Powerworld in June. The cause of death is presently unknown.
McDermott was best known for his tenure as the vocalist for Threshold, a position he held from 1998's, "Clone" album to 2007's, "Dead Reckoning." He also spent time with German metal band Sargent Fury in the early 90's and most recently was part of the band Swamp Freaks.
Powerworld has issued the following announcement about recruiting Michael Bormann as the band's new vocalist:
"The band played on the last tour with Axel Rudi Pell with Michael Bormann on vocals due to singer Mac's serious health problems. Michael had only six days to prepare himself and because the tour was imminent, he had no opportunity to rehearse with the band.
"The tour went extremely well, and Michael did one good job after another. Every evening he sang Mac's vocals as though they were his own, and rescued the first tour for Powerworld. Subsequently we put all activities on hold to give Mac the time that he needed to make a good recovery. Ilker and Barish played on the tour with Michael Bormann Band during this time.
"Unfortunately, Mac did not recover from his illness, and has left the band by his own request.
Now that we know that Michael is one of the best singers in Germany and have also gained a new friend, it was logical to ask him whether he could imagine a future with PW. We proudly present our new singer: Welcome Michael Bormann."

Please welcome Mr. Andrew McDermott: 'Mac' is the Ex-Singer of the german band Sargant Fury and the Ex-Singer of the UK-Progband Threshold. He is a man with a lot of experience. Our songs got exactly the power and spirit what they need. We want to finish the work on the album as fast as possible to play on the festivals this year."
