Soilwork Joins Boycott of BP Products

Sweden's melodic metal outfit Soilwork have just issued a statement in regards to their decision to boycott all BP oil products while on tour throughout 2010.

The band commented by saying: "We’re outraged about BP’s obvious profit-over-safety policy leading to this terrible disaster and their extremely poor handling of the oil spill. In joining the boycott and calling all our fans to do the same, we can collectively make a statement strong enough to bring this shameless, careless corporation to its knees, and to avoid such catastrophes in the future."

Other bands and artists who have joined the boycott led by American nu-metallers Korn include Megadeth, Disturbed, Godsmack, Anthrax, Black Label Society and Rob Zombie.

Kamelot Signs with earMUSIC, New Album Details

earMUSIC, the international rock label of the Hamburg-based entertainment group Edel, has announced the signing of American/Norwegian melodic metallers Kamelot. The band's new studio album, "Poetry For The Poisoned," will be released in Europe on September 3, 2010.

"I think this album is by far our most diverse, fusing new ideas and elements along with the traditional Kamelot sound and style that we have established over the years," states Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood.

"Poetry for the Poisoned" was mostly written in the remote woods of Norway to the final songwriting sessions in a remote region of Germany. Recordings took place in the familiar Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producers Sascha Paeth and Miro. Additional tracking also took place in Tampa, Florida as well as various studios in Sweden, Greece and the U.S.

"Poetry for the Poisoned" features guest appearances by Simone Simons (Epica), Gus G. (Ozzy Osbourne, Firewind), Björn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork) and Jon Oliva (Savatage, Jon Oliva's Pain). The artwork was created by many great artists, including Seth Siro Anton, Natalie Shau and Michal Loranc.

"'Poetry for the Poisoned' is a mix of progressive elements, modern rock, dark arts and also power metal," states Youngblood. "It comes at a time where many people around the world are searching for something to grab on to spiritually, including myself. I recently lost my mother and to be honest it was very hard on me. So there are some melancholy moods reflected on this album."

Frontman Roy Khan assures that "Poetry for the Poisoned" will both please the band's existing following and expose the universe of Kamelot to a whole range of new fans. "'Poetry for the Poisoned' is our longest and toughest production so far, but when I hear the result I know it was well worth the struggle," he says.

Max Vaccaro, director of the earMUSIC label, commented: "If there is one thing that is absolutely clear with Kamelot, it's that the band has a unique vision of metal and they consider anything they do as the 'next step' to something bigger and better, constantly adamant to reach new ambitious artistic targets. We're happy about the fact that they have chosen earMUSIC as the partner to expand their audience with this new wonderful album."

"Poetry For The Poisoned" will also be available as a limited edition hard-cover digipak CD with a bonus DVD, LP and limited collector's edition featuring a bonus 45" vinyl with two rare songs only available on this strictly limited format, personally signed by the band.

Kamelot recently tapped Swedish director Owe Lingvall of Village Road Films for the video shoot and production of the song "The Great Pandemonium". The track, which was performed on the band's recently completed European tour, will appear on "Poetry For The Poisoned". Other songtitles set to appear on the effort include "House On A Hill"and "Hunters Season", the latter of which was also performed on the band's recently completed European headlining tour.

Kamelot recently inked a deal with Marquee/Avalon Records for the Japanese release of its next album. The plans for the North American release will be announced in the near future.

Soilwork Reveals Details Behind Upcoming Video

Soilwork are currently working on a music video for the song “Deliverance Is Mine” to be directed by Ivan Colic (Type O Negative) and produced by Stanimir Lucik. The track comes off their latest upcoming release "The Panic Broadcast" set for release in July.

The band commented on the concept of the video by saying:
“Our new video ‘Deliverance Is Mine’ will be the follow-up to 2003’s CGI animated masterpiece ‘Light The Torch’. We’ve always loved that clip and it’s really exciting to be able to give it a sequel! The song is about people living through others like parasites, a perfect setting for the evil scientist and his humanoid servant to continue their cruel experiments. So far the first drafts look jaw-dropping and we have no doubt that the team over at Rock The Nation will do an amazing job on ‘Deliverance Is Mine’!”

Soilwork Reveals New Album Cover Art Online

Swedish metal band SOILWORK has just unveiled the artwork for their upcoming album "The Panic Broadcast."

Björn "Speed" Strid comments, "With the artwork for this album we wanted to capture the illusion of the mind, misconceptions and the state of panic. Bartosz Nalezinski has made a perfect job realizing this idea. The cover symbolizes the emperor of the illusion with two servants to assist the misconception. The background illustrates the abstract chaos that slowly takes over. Inside the booklet you can follow the psychological journey that brings you 'The Panic Broadcast.' Check out www.myspace.com/B_Nalezinski!"

"The Panic Broadcast" is the first album to feature original guitarist, songwriter & producer Peter Wichers since his return to the band in 2008. The album is set to be released on July 2, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Soilwork Comments On New Album

Soilwork vocalist Bjorn "Speed" Strid has posted a new update online discussing the bands forthcoming new studio album and the bands recent travel problems. The message reads as follows:

"Hi all!

"So, here we are, back in Sweden after the worst travel experience we've ever had. We were supposed to fly from Greensboro to Newark and then connect there to Stockholm. We arrived at Greenboro and found out that our flight was delayed, only 30 mins though. 30 mins turned into 2 hours and we started to realize that we were gonna miss our connecting flight to Stockholm from Newark. The Continental staff told us that if we don't make it for the Stockholm flight, they would put us on a flight to Manchester, UK and then fly from there to Stockholm. When we arrive at Newark, we see our SAS flight pass by from our seats, it's like there was a huge middle finger painted on the side of it. When we get inside the airport, the staff are telling us that our Manchester flight is delayed 3 hours, which meant that we now had a total of 6 hours layover. More...

Soilwork Announces Tour with Death Angel

Swedish modern metallers Soilwork will embark on a North American headlining tour this summer with Bay Area thrash legends Death Angel. Joining them will be Quebec’s tech-death masters Augury, Roadrunner Records recording artists Mutiny Within, and pirate themed thrashers Swashbuckle.

Soilwork vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid commented: "We are stoked to tour with the most vicious thrashers from the west, famous for their gin drinking and intense live shows. Death Angel is a classic band that we've wanted to tour with for a long time. A perfect fit for the bill and surely an awesome touring companion. The summer of mosh is upon us. Don't miss out!"

Death Angel frontman Mark Osegueda added: “I can't begin to tell you how excited we are about the upcoming tour! I first heard Soilwork on a Nuclear Blast promo compilation and they stood out from the first listen. The riffs, the drumming, and Bjorn's vocal attack! Then we were fortunate enough to play with them at With Full Force Festival a few years back and they killed it live! As fate would have it, I was asked to participate in a Nuclear Blast 20 Year Anniversary compilation album called Out of the Dark, which Peter Wichers wrote the music for. I wrote the lyrics and melody for a song on that compilation called ‘My Name is Fate’! Peter actually was also the producer, so I was fortunate enough to get to work with him in the studio! What a brilliant guy and and a great musician and now that he is back in the fold Soilwork is back on top of their game. I think the musical styles and live performances of both bands will make every show on this tour a show not to be missed by any true fan of HEAVY music! So don't just hear about the aftermath, experience it for yourself!”

Augury lead singer/guitar player Patrick Loisel: “We are very proud to be part of such a great tour with Soilwork, perform alongside legends such as Death Angel (a band whom I covered in my old bands), and join our brothers in Swashbuckle again. It's quite a thrill!”

Soilwork and Death Angel have now added a special event VIP ticket for a pre-show meet-and-greet to take place one hour before doors. Each night, fans will get to meet and greet Soilwork and Death Angel for a special event that is being offered. Fans will also receive a customized poster to get signed by both bands. These special VIP tickets are on sale now at EnterTheVault.com.

Soilwork Begins Mixing New Album

Soilwork frontman, Björn "Speed" Strid, and guitarist, Peter Wichers, has checked in with the band's fifth studio update:

"So, here we are, back in Sweden after the worst travel experience we've ever had. We were supposed to fly from Greensboro to Newark and then connect there to Stockholm. We arrived at Greenboro and found out that our flight was delayed, only 30 minutes though. 30 minutes turned into 2 hours and we started to realize that we were gonna miss our connecting flight to Stockholm from Newark. The Continental staff told us that if we don't make it for the Stockholm flight, they would put us on a flight to Manchester UK and then fly from there to Stockholm.

"When we arrive at Newark, we see our SAS flight pass by from our seats. It's like there was a huge middle finger painted on the side of it. When we get inside the airport, the staff is telling us that our Manchester flight is delayed 3 hours, which meant that we now had a total of 6 hours layover. Tired and forcing ourselves to destroy the entire airport with our fists, Peter went to lie down and I went to the bar trying to take off the edge. It worked for some time, but I started to feel like I was gonna pass out. After 6 hours we finally got on the plane that we got degraded to (From SAS to Continental. And let me tell you, in case you didn't know already, Continental sucks ass!). We arrived to Manchester and there we had to wait for another 5 hours before our flight finally took us to Stockholm. After 30 hours of travelling.

"Now that we're here in Fascination Street studio in Örebro, Sweden, there are no limitations to the joy we feel about this album. We started mixing the first song today: 'The Thrill,' it sounds absolutely majestic!!! Jens Bogren, the mixing engineer, also has a big smile on his face and is doing a fantastic job! If you look outside, Sweden is still covered in snow, absolutely insane. We will start to mix the second song tomorrow, can't wait, gonna be hard to fall asleep... talk to you in a few days!"

Soilwork Recording Vocals for New Album

Soilwork frontman, Björn "Speed" Strid, has checked in with his fourth studio update.

"We are currently recording vox and, as usual, it’s long days with small breaks. We’re talking 12 hours of singing, every day. It’s funny when you analyze it, screaming for 12 hours a day (except when our insane booking agent John Finberg calls and wants to make fun of my mustache). It’s crazy... Anyways, I feel it’s sounding absolutely fantastic this time around, even though you tend to lose your temper every now and then. No bloody knuckles this time though, just walls falling over in the vocal booth and a lot of cursing in Swedish.

"It’s only me, Peter [Wichers] and Sylvain [Coudret] left in the house. Flink and Sven [Karlsson] left a week ago and it’s feeling kind of empty in this insanely big house. There’s a good spirit though. It’s starting to get nice and warm outside and Peter’s wife and little son Leo are spreading a lot of joy in the house, too. Leo is sleeping on the bed while I’m screaming my eyes out. Unbelievable.

"Me and Peter have discussed the album a lot and we really feel that it’s a schizophrenic masterpiece. There’s a lot of surprises and trippy parts and sometimes so full-on that it leaves you absolutely breathless. It is the most intense Soilwork album so far, without a doubt. My fave songs right now are 'The Thrill,' 'The Akuma Afterglow,' 'Epitome' and 'Let This River Flow.'

"It’s been very draining for me going through all the lyrics. Very heavy stuff and it’s like the last two years are flashing by.

"We have four more days to go and then we’re off to Sweden to mix this monster. Jens Bogren is waiting in the city of Örebro and he is just excited as us to get this album done. We’ll talk to you soon."

Soilwork's new studio album, "The Panic Broadcast," will be released on June 25th through Nuclear Blast Records.

Soilwork Frontman Checks In with Studio Update

Soilwork frontman, Björn 'Speed' Strid, has checked in with the following studio blog:

"It has been an intense start on this recording, we grabbed the songs by the balls and we are currently recording rhythm guitars. The sound is absolutely amazing, more ‘meat’ than ever before, we have slightly more distortion but deadly precision. As you have figured, Dirk has already hammered in the drums and I gotta say it’s definitely his best performance ever. Absolutely jaw dropping! I’ve been very focused on finishing the lyrics, really have a lot to tell and channel this time. It’s turned out to be very personal but very relieving to bring out what’s been stuck in my head for two years, which has been probably been the two hardest years in my life. To drop a few song titles: 'The Thrill,' 'Late for the Kill, Early for the Slaughter,' 'The Akuma Afterglow,' 'Let this River Flow,' 'Where Angels Fear to Tread,' '2 Lives Worth of Reckoning'... Ladies and gents, it’s gonna be intense. More...

Soilwork Reveals New Album Title

Vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid of Swedish melodic death metal band Soilwork has issued the following update discussing their new album:

"After a long but intense absence, I'm back giving you a little report on what's going on in the Soilwork camp. We have just wrapped up the last songs on the new record and i have a constant smile on my face. The title of the new album will be 'THE PANIC BROADCAST.' I'm so stoked to record this new album and i feel it's gonna be quite a challenge for everybody in the band. So how's it sounding?"

"Here's my personal take: I feel it's bigger than life to use an old cliché, but seriously, if any of you for some reason have missed some of that intricate riffing that made Soilwork unique, won't have to wait very long. I feel this record is very playful and we're not cutting down on anything, no 'is this too much information' -consideration, no 'less is more,' just pure musical joy with no boundaries, THAT'S to me what it's all about. Obviously there's gonna be some surprises like always but giving every member of this band the freedom to go apeshit, will make this record a heavy and naturally catchy one. More solos? -Check, Insane riffing?-Check, Melodic vocals?-Check, Screamy vocals?-Check, Progressive keyboards?-Check, Best metal drummer in the world?-Check, will Flink dance while recording his bass tracks, like they were nothing?-Check. Drums will be recorded in Asheville NC, starting this Saturday. Keep your eyes open for an online studio report, join us and watch every step of the new album taking form! 'THE PANIC BROADCAST' IS UPON US!"
