Phaze I, a new project from brothers-in-crime David & Frank Potvin (Lyzanxia) and long time friend Dirk Verbeuren (Scarve, Soilwork) signed a deal with Scarlet Records. The band just finished working on their debut album, mastered by Peter In De Betou (Rammstein, Marduk, etc.) at Tailor Made Studios and already described as the perfect mix of extremely powerful bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, At The Gates, Strapping Young Lad and, of course, Lyzanxia and Scarve. "Apocalyptic Metal" is the right definition for Phaze I's sonic holocaust. The album is expected to hit the streets on May 22nd. Frontman, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, checks in with the following Disarmonia Mundi and Soilwork updates:
"I'm in Studio Fredman right now, mixing the new Disarmonia Mundi album. Things are going good but hectic as usual..
Hopefully everything goes well and the album can be released sometime in april/may..
"Soilwork is getting ready to hit the road again after a pretty long break (probably needed). To tell you the truth, the inspiration is flowing right now and we've already pretty much completed 2 new Soilwork songs that just sounds killer. I gotta say it was unexpected to get this kind of inspiration after all that happened, or maybe that was just the reason why..? I have more faith in this band than ever..
French metallers SCARVE have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We're currently adding the last bones to the rough skeleton of what will eventually become SCARVE album #4! About eight brutally groovy and savagely fast tracks are nearly complete now, and we have another three of four on the way, so it all looks quite ravishing here in our snowed-in rehearsal space in the Northeast of beautiful France. Dirk [Verbeuren, drums; also in SOILWORK] and Guillaume [Bideau, vocals] will head to Sweden's Dug-Out Studio next week to start tracking the drums with good ole' Daniel Bergstrand [MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, STUCK MOJO] at the helm. In the meantime, sassy dude Mattias Nilsson will help Sylvain [Coudret, lead guitar], Patrick [Martin, rhythm guitar] and Loïc [Colin, bass] to fine-tune the guitar and bass sounds which we're tracking at home this time. Vocals and mixing duties will be handled by Daniel sometime in June. Until then, we'll do our best to keep you posted right here with diaries, studio pictures, videos of us naked and other fun stuff!"
SCARVE's follow-up to 2004's "Irradiant" is tentatively later this fall via Listenable Records.
SCARVE's Dirk Verbeuren recently joined SOILWORK as a full-fledged member after having laid down the drum tracks for the group's latest album, "Stabbing the Drama", and touring with the group for the past couple of years.
Soilwork frontman, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, has posted the following update on the band's official website:
"We're rehearsing right now, started off yesterday with a possible replacement for Peter. He's doing a great job and we'll see how it goes on the festivals in Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic in march, i'm sure it'll work out great... Hopefully after those festivals we can announce the new guitarist..
"Other than that, merch section is on it's way (i'm not lying this time hehe..). We'll take photos this week and post them, there's gonna be some very limited designs since it's mostly leftovers from tours, so keep your eyes open..
"Last but not least i gotta say that i'm so fucking impressed by the Soilwork tattoo section, holy shit!! There's 27 pieces in there, i don't think i've ever seen so many logo/symbol tattoos on fans of a band of Soilwork's size...
The Sledgehammer messiah army is rising!!!
As our webmistress just posted, keep the tats coming, i know there's more out there... It would be really cool to include all the tattoo pics on the next album or dvd..
"Talk to ya soon..
Peter Wichers, former guitar player for Soilwork, has chosen Samadhi to be his first solo production/engineering gig. They are scheduled to start work in early May, and hope to be done in four weeks time. Look for the Samadhi full-length soon after. To check out some sound samples, go to www.myspace.com/samadhi.
Soilwork frontman, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, has checked in with the following new years update:
"What's up folks!?
"I hope you had a blasting beginning of the new year!
I had a pretty relaxed new years eve, had to take a break from the booze..
Sweden is drowned in snow and not much to do except sitting inside watching movies.. I made a nice purchase when i found the Deep Purple dvd "California Jam 74", it fucken rocks..holy shit!
"I've also joined a bluesband that i'm jamming with 1 or 2 times a week. I've always wanted to try out something like that, no side project just a jam you can do when you have the time.. It was a kick and a challenge to sing something different and i'm sure i can develop my voice playing around with it, singing the blues.. We're playing songs by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, Clapton etc. Before someone says it, no i will not turn myself and Soilwork into a bluesband...
Just having fun...
"Other than that, working on a replacement for Peter... I'm sure we'll make a decision soon. As you can see we've updated the tourdates with some festivals around Europe. There's a lot more to come, both festivals and tours, so stay tune!
Frontman Bjorn "Speed" Strid posted this message on the official Soilwork website on the departure of guitarist Peter Wichers and the recording of the second Disarmonia Mundi album:
"I wanna thank everybody for their strong support and their faith in the band. You guys always stay with us through thick and thin, this makes me and the band confident and eager once again to show the world that we will kick ass like never before!
On the behalf of Peter i can say that you guys gave him such a strong support and many kind words of encouragement to be able to proceed with his "new life". He will never forget those words, i can tell you that..THANK YOU!
"Right now i'm down in Italy to record the second Disarmonia Mundi album. I've just finished the vocals and will return home to Sweden tomorrow.
I've got a lot of positive response about the first Mundi album and i can assure you that the second one will not make you disappointed..
"Man, this year has been the busiest year in my life, so many months on the road with Soilwork and then recording 3 albums in between.. I think i need a break to recharge the batteries.. I wanna take the time to thank all the people for coming out to the shows and the people who hung out with us during the tours.. This year will for sure not be forgotten..
"Talk to ya soon..
RockDetector.com is publishing a two-volume book set, "Scandinavian Rock & Metal", in the first quarter of 2006. The books cover all styles of rock and metal from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. In the now-expected Rockdetector style, executive editor Garry Sharpe-Young covers each band's history in meticulous detail, including lineups, URLs and a complete discography, along with track listings, labels, catalogue numbers and chart positions. The two books will each be approximately 500 pages each, listing well over 1,200 bands covering heavy metal, death metal, black metal, melodic rock, progressive rock and beyond. Fjords, Vikings, the midnight sun and a thousand lakes — the perfect breeding ground for the most epic of heavy metal! Scandinavia has exported its rock and metal to all corners of the globe, ranging from the shred exploits of YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, the operatic pioneers NIGHTWISH, the pomptastic EUROPE, the heavyweight HAMMERFALL to the extremist forms of black and death metal in EMPEROR, MAYHEM, DIMMU BORGIR, MARDUK, DARKTHRONE and BURZUM. "Scandinavia has really been the hotbed for emerging rock talent for over a decade now," says Garry Sharpe-Young. "Once EUROPE, TNT and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN had made their mark on the international scene, Norway's floodgates opened and poured a black metal plague upon the world with BURZUM, EMPEROR, MAYHEM, DIMMU BORGIR, and DARKTHRONE. Since then, Sweden made a huge impact with acts such as HAMMERFALL, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK and KATATONIA and subsequently Finland has really raised its head and is now without question the most metal place on planet earth! All these bands, from all genre spectrums are included. Some of the band histories are positively labyrinthine when you get into the detail of who played for who under what pseudonym. This really is a true monster of a book."
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers TESTAMENT are the latest confirmed band for the MetalMania 2006 festival, set to take place March 4, 2006 at Spodek in Katowice, Poland. The festival billing is shaping up as follows (in alphabetical order):
Guitarist Peter Wichers has left Sweden's SOILWORK. His official statement on the matter reads as follows:
"I have decided to part ways with SOILWORK.
"This has been one of my hardest decisions to make, and SOILWORK has not only been my band but my second family and very good friends for almost 10 years.
"I'm just worn out from all the touring and I have reached a point in my life where touring is just not possible for me anymore. I need a break from the touring so that I can actually begin to build a more solid ground to stand on for the future. More...
DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström has posted the following tour reports on the band's official web site:
"Yes, tonight ( 12/04) we played the 32nd show of the U.S. tour here in Seattle, WA and tomorrow we'll end the tour in Vancouver where I will finally meet the drummer of my solo project NON-HUMAN LEVEL, Ryan van Poederooyen.
"OK, so we crashed into Seattle... sorry, ...no, we actually crashed in Seattle this morning. Everybody was sleeping when we suddenly woke up by the bus shaking and braking heavily. I thought it would flip over, but in the last second everything was still. All curtains of the bunks opened and a lot of surprised metalheads stuck out their heads. It turned out we had crashed into another car on the freeway right outside Seattle. It was kind of scary, but no one was seriously hurt, I think. After an hour or so, we could leave and head for downtown Seattle, which I think is a very nice city!More...
Soilwork frontman, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, checked in with the following report:
"We have 3 shows to go on this tour, the bus is getting close to stink worse than you ever can imagine, still we've had an amazing tour...We got stopped by the police on the border to California and they searched through the whole bus for drugs, i tell you: poor dogs!! I don't even think the dogs would have found a bag filled with 20 pound cocain in there.. We couldn't possibly found a better band to share the bus with Darkane though, since we come from the same little town we had a lot to talk about during the tour...
"You also might know that we got an award on the Danish Metal Awards as the best international act which of course was really cool since we were competing with acts like System of a Down and The Haunted.. So, a big hail to the people voting for Soilwork!
"Bill Ward from Black Sabbath came to watch our show in Anaheim and got his own reserved seat on the balcony. He came to the dressing room after the show and said he loved the set and praised Dirk's drumming... Thanx for coming out Bill!!
"In Anaheim we also celebrated the 100th show for the 'Stabbing the drama' album since march when the album was released.. More to come..
"Also a big hail to Meshuggah drummer Thomas Haake for joining the "Bus-diving-party" in Anaheim.. i'm surprised we didn't break the bus in half....
"Other than that, keep the Soilwork tattoo pics coming, i know there's a helluva lot more pics to be sent to our site...
Soilwork frontman, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, has checked in from Houston, TX with the following tour report:
"What's up people!?
"Sitting in a very dark and cold dressing room in Houston at the Meridian. I got very surprised when i got up this morning and felt how cold it was outside... Is it usually as cold as this in Texas?! I know it's going towards the end of november but still... Anyways, still having a lot of fucking fun on this tour, had a day off in New Orleans yesterday.. We saw all the devastation when we drove into the city, boats lying in the middle of the road, fragments of what used to be a peaceful community.. it was scary to see the terrible outcome after Katrina passed by, just 2 months earlier (as you might remember, we were in Memphis that day).. What i could also see was that the city is after all getting back on it's feet again (which of course made us very happy) so we decided to go downtown to support the nightlife and spend some money on barhopping (at least something, right!?) Had a good time down there drinking the all time classic Handgrenade and went to see some awesome livebands.. I hope they will start up the House of Blues soon again so that we can come down again and play some of that swedish metal once again..
Also a big hail to Damien Storm for hanging out with us, had a blast!!
"Other than that not much to say.. A really great tour so far, shitloads of people and great circlepits every night.. Thanks for rocking out people and keep em coming..

DARKANE are currently treading on U.S. soil for the first time, joined by FEAR FACTORY, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and SOILWORK. Guitarist Christofer Malmström posted the following update from the band's North American tour:
"Today we´re in Milwaukee, WI. Been doing four shows so far, so only 29 to go! The audience has been really great so far! I´m surprised that so many people have shown up for the opening act... something that is not taken for granted when you open up in Europe.
Two days ago we were in Chicago. The first thing we did was to take a walk in that beautiful city to the Sears Tower, the tallest building in the US. The view was fantastic! We also took a group photo with this green screen where they put the tower in the background if you buy the pic. We´ll see if we can scan it and put it up here. When returning to the House of Blues we suddenly found ourself in one of the VIP opera boxes in the balcony at a gospel concert! For five Swedes that was a really cool experience!More...
