Fear Factory At the Concord Music Hall 4/19/2016

Booking this show was an absolute nightmare and almost entirely my fault. I say almost because it it was only 0.01% other people's fault and 99.99% mine thanks to my bad habit of procrastination. I saw that Darren (Rex_84 to you readers) had already interviewed Dino a week ago and thought that I missed my shot at covering Fear Factory but already put in a request to Fear Factory's management instead of Soilwork's which led to discussion with Darren about what type of content was in his now published interview and led to me originally only getting a photo pass from Liz at Earplit PR. Of course by the time Darren, Doug, Ty and I all took the time to discuss whether or not to do a second Fear Factory interview and came to the conclusion that since Darren and Dino only discussed the history of the band through “Demanufacture,” it would be a good idea to get Burt's take on Fear Factory starting with “Obsolete.” Which we only discussed after I bought up the possibility days after I should have. Liz naturally took a vacation for from Friday through Monday and only confirmed the possibility of an interview on the day of the show and sent an e-mail to me stating that an interview was off the table after I'd already contacted the band's tour manager to confirm an interview... which was just a huge clusterfuck made worse by the tour manager being late to send the guest list to the box office when I was worried that I wouldn't even get in.

Of course after getting in, I stop at the merch table, buy a shirt and then look at the audience around me. One guy was still wearing those mallgoth JNCO raver pants that Hot Topic sold circa 2001 who I'm guessing spent the last 15 years in cryogenic suspension. Amazingly a lot of people in Star Wars shirts who frequently had chin straps that grew into full on neckbeards with one guy even wearing a full-on pleather trenchcoat. Part of me wanted to bring a college-aged Ani DeFranco fan with me just to see how fast she'd get triggered only to run into the arms of the security guy who happened to be a white dude with dreadlocks... Which might give her a full-on mental breakdown. More...

"Recording the video for 'Death In General' was absolutely spectacular. After finishing up our North American Tour at The Whisky in Hollywood, we got up at 5am the next morning and drove into the desert. Joshua Tree is truly a magical place and was the perfect setting for this song and the mystical feeling it generates. Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn was very kind to let us use his land for the shoot and he also welcomed us into his home. More...

Soilwork Posts New Song

Leading up to the August 28, 2015 release date of new album "The Ride Majestic," today Soilwork drops another song from the band's impending 10th album.

Check out “Enemies in Fidelity” via the the YouTube player provided below. Vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid comments:

“'Enemies in Fidelity' is indeed a very melodic and atmospheric beast. This was one of the first songs that I wrote for the new album and it holds a lot of surprises. The chorus almost sounds as if Simon and Garfunkel started a black metal band. That's the way we like it - playful, dark, intense and melancholic. It definitely stands out, but also gives you an overall idea of what Soilwork currently is about.

"The lyrics deal with whether you should escape or succumb to the suffering that you might experience in your life, in order to find new strength. The ambivalence. The guilt and the respect towards your own existence. Being awakened and finding satisfaction through frustration and anger, to a point where it almost becomes addictive. Enjoy!”

A preview containing snippets of all the album's tracks also recently came online and is available right here. More...

Soilwork Posts Mini-Documentary

The Sweden-based melodic metal giants from Soilwork are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming 10th studio album, "The Ride Majestic," hitting stores worldwide on August 28, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records.

In preparation of the album’s release, Soilwork has created a two-part mini-documentary inviting fans and newcomers alike to take an insider’s look at the band.

In this clip, vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid gives a one-on-one, personal account of what has shaped Soilwork. Check out part 1 below, courtesy of MetalSucks.

Strid comments: “After finishing up the album, the band was asked if we had a bunch of footage from the studio, potentially shaping up to become a making of-style documentary. Truth was, we didn't get much on tape at all in the studio. At least video. There was a lot of audio though, which you all get to hear on the 28th of August. Perhaps not all that weird, after going through some really rough times in our personal lives, while the album was recorded (once you see this mini doc, you'll understand why).

"Thinking about it made me realize, that as interesting as it might be for the fans, I believed it was time for something new. In my mind, the typical webisode format seemed watered down. I believed we had a different story to tell this time around, rather than showing off gear and making silly faces in the studio. Just a week ago, I did some brainstorming and put together somewhat of a script, where I told my part of the story and how this album came together for me personally.

"One of the main reasons, aside from that this awesome band I'm a part of, is spread out all over the world, and pretty hard to gather in matter of hours, is because that the vocal recording was extra special for me this time. I moved back to the city where it all began for me. the city where I started my first bands. I basically reconnected with the people and the scene, that all had a huge impact on me. I wanted to somehow share it with you, and tell the story of how it all lead up this new record of ours. Expect nothing close to 'The Seventh Seal' by Ingemar Bergman. However, it's a very honest story, how everything came to together for me personally, and how the hardship we all went through the latest year, shaped our new album 'The Ride Majestic.' Hope you enjoy it!” More...

Soilwork Posts Lyric Video For Album's Title Track

Swedish masters of melodic metal from Soilwork will release their forthcoming 10th studio album, "The Ride Majestic," worldwide on August 28th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records. Various pre-order bundles are available right here.

After a teaser that bafflingly came out via MySpace, Soilwork today reveals the first single from the album, “The Ride Majestic," which can be heard through the lyric video below.

Vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid discusses the meaning behind the song: “[The title track] was one of the first songs we wrote for this album. The intro sets a certain melancholic mood and after that it's all pure melodic mayhem. There’s a very epic and anthemic feel to it, which suits the album title perfectly.

"The lyrics deal with the fear of dying and the art of remaining sane while you're still alive. Not wanting to miss a thing, wanting to embrace every moment, and being able to bring it all back on your dying day, with a snap of your fingers. It's also a tribute to the ones we've lost and the comfort of hoping that they will catch us when we fall, on the other side.

"We believe that, if there is an afterlife, this song would be the soundtrack to that journey. It deals with the acceptance of life and death and possibly everything between and beyond.” More...

Soilwork Recruits New Bassist

The Sweden-based melodic death metal experts from Soilwork will release forthcoming 10th studio album, "The Ride Majestic," worldwide on August 28th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records.

As of this new album cycle, Soilwork is joined by new bassist Markus Wibom, formerly of Helsingborg hardcore group Hearts Alive. Wibom replaces longtime band member Ola Flink, who has amicably left the group to focus on other endeavors. Wibom has been a personal friend of the band for many years and has previously toured with Soilwork as a guitar tech and lighting designer. Wibom made his live debut in Stockholm on April 30th.

Soilwork vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid states, “We all sooner or later come to a crossroad in our lives, when our focus of being fueled by the past, is just as strong as our visions of the future and we have to make that incredibly hard decision. Where do I go now? Flink will forever be a symbol for Soilwork and of all we were and still are about. That being said, we all could sense that he eventually would come to the above mentioned crossroad. He understandably and respectfully chose to step down.

"So, where do WE go now? Let me introduce you to one of the finest and most stand up people I know: Markus Wibom. He's been a long-time friend and is an overall multi-instrumental amazing musician. He's been with us before, on past world tours. He's also an amazing character and I couldn't think of a better person to fill Flink's shoes, which indeed are very big… literally (Markus’ shoe size is actually even bigger, if anybody wants to know). Anyway, as much as I will miss Flink, I'm just as excited to tour the world with one of my absolute best friends. Thank you Flink, you will forever rule. Thank you, Markus, for taking this on. I know you will blow people's minds, once the world tour of The Ride Majestic commences. Please give Markus a very warm welcome everyone!”

Wibom adds, “It's a great honor and a true pleasure to play with such skilled musicians and amazing people! It's going to be awesome to share the stage with those guys after all these years on the road together, and with the new record coming up - it absolutely kills!” More...
