Latest Nachtmystium News
Below is our complete Nachtmystium news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
The recurring issue of fans not receiving albums or merchandise ordered directly through Nachtmystium's Blake Judd apparently continues on with "The World We Left Behind" - which was to be the band's "final" album before a no-duh reversal occurred just before the album's release.
However, it appears Century Media has tired of the antics, and is stepping in to resolve the issue for fans who have been bilked out of their money. The label apparently will also no longer be working with Nachtmystium, commenting:
"Century Media Records understands that many people have not received their copies of 'The World We Left Behind' even though they pre-ordered the album directly from front-man, Blake Judd. We know that this is not only frustrating but also a let down to the fans of the band. So, we'd like to help out in this situation and deliver the fans their pre-ordered copies on the format that they ordered.
"Please e-mail us at: email@example.com with proof of your order and we will get you your copy of the album on the format(s) that you ordered them on. We just ask that this e-mail address be used for issues with 'The World We Left Behind' band direct pre-order issues only. Blake will not be reading any of the e-mails and we will not be forwarding any e-mails about other items that Blake sold through his personal pages or the Nachtmystium Facebook page.
"'The World We Left Behind' also marks the last album Nachtmystium has with Century Media Records. We wish Blake Judd the best of luck with all future endeavors, both musically and personally."
"The World We Left Behind" is the final chapter in a tumultuous and controversial history of Nachtmystium.
Today you can hear a song off the forthcoming final opus, titled "Tear You Down," in the player below thanks to Pitchfork.com. Nachtmystium's Blake Judd comments:
"Tear You Down is, by far, the most vicious track both musically and lyrically on The World We Left Behind. Musically, its influences range from traditional eastern music (the primary opening riffs scale being derived from the more traditional 'middle eastern' style of music, which I have always felt had a unique and creepy vibe to it).
"I can also cite Black Sabbath and more modern black metal bands such as Deathspell Omega and Funeral Mist as all being influential in the riffing throughout the track. Lyrically it deals with the relationship between an all-controlling addiction and its relationship with its user, but from the persepctive of the substance itself rather than the users relationship with the substance.
"It is very telling of my ongoing relationship with heroin that I struggled with for over four years and viciousness that the drug unleashes mercilessly upon its user. The song tells the story of that dark world from an angle that I feel is different than the way other songs written on the topic by other artists generally approach the subject. I feel the music herein accurately encapsulates the chaos and true darkness of that sad and lonely world." More...

Nachtmystium has officially come to an end and is gearing up to release final album "The World We Left Behind" on June 10th, 2014. The band has now issued the following update about other projects:
"Although Nachtmystium is no more, Blake Judd is continuing his musical voyage via his long-time side project and now main band, Hate Meditation.
"For those of you who are not familiar with Hate Meditation but are Nachtmystium fans, Hate Meditation was originally started in 2003 by Judd as a side project from Nachtmystium. The 2003 three song demo 'Condemned to Death' was recorded and released in very small numbers on cassette and distributed within the black metal underground. The project then lie dormant for nearly ten years.
"In 2012, Judd revived the project and recorded the bands debut album 'Scars,' which was released on Indie Recordings, Norway. 'Scars' is a piece of ugly, filthy black metal that pays homage to the early 90's Scandinavian sound heavily. Below you will find a video via youtube of the albums opening track 'The Deceiver and the Believer.' Have a listen and add the Hate Meditation facebook page to your 'likes' to keep up on the project.
"Musically, Hate Meditation's future recordings will pick up where Nachtmystium left off. The first live assaults are being planned for summer 2014 in the United States and their are plans to hopefully be in Europe in early 2015." More...
Nachtmystium recently wrapped up work on "The World We Left Behind," which the group has stated will be its final album, due for release via Century Media on June 10th, 2014. The band has also now checked in with the following update about releasing a compilation:
"Nachtmystium has confirmed another new release that is being compiled and designed at the current time. We are pleased to announce that our longtime friends at the Australian label Katzenjammer Records will be releasing a compilation of all the cover songs Nachtmystium recorded during their 14 year span of existence that will be simply called 'Under Cover.'
"The compilation will include cover versions of songs by Burzum (including the recently recorded version of 'Det Som Engang Var' that Nachtmystium recorded during the sessions for the yet-to-be-released 'The World We Left Behind' LP sessions. This cover will be totally exclusive to this release!) Joy Division, Motorhead, Ildjarn, Earth, Darkthrone, Judas Iscariot, Goatsnake, Death In June and GG Allin! More...
Nachtmystium will be returning to Belle City Sound in Racine, WI early next month to put the finishing touches on what the band is billing as its final full-length album, "The World We Left Behind," which is scheduled for release on Century Media Records worldwide in late spring, 2014. Nachtmystium comments:
"The album was recorded in July and August, 2013, but the band was not completely satisfied with the end result and has decided to revisit the recording and add some additional guitar tracks, synths, etc.
"Upon completion of this session, the album will be mastered and then immediately submitted to Century Media for release. More news and another track premier will come at the end of this pending session.
"Stay tuned for more news. In the meantime, see earlier posts on our Facebook profile here to check out a rough mix of the song 'Voyager,' the first track the band has released online from the new and final Nachtmystium album."
This final album will follow previous full-length "Silencing Machine" (reviewed here).
According to the Cook County sheriff website, Nachtmystium vocalist/guitarist Blake Judd has been arrested on theft charges.
MetalInsider.net has now reported Judd will remain in jail until early November, which means Nachtmystium is likely to miss the band's scheduled appearance at the Metal Insider CMJ Showcase on October 16th.
The Brooklyn showcase will still feature the bands Vattnet Viskar, Ramming Speed, Byzantine, and Black Anvil. More...
This year's edition of the German Summer Breeze festival will take place from August 15th - 17th, 2013. The organizers of the festival have now issued the following announcement about two bands dropping off the bill and being replaced by other groups:
"Unfortunately we have to inform you that Emmure and Nachtmystium have cancelled their appearance at Summer Breeze 2013. Our apologies to all those who were looking forward to seeing them. We will not rest until we can book the bands again for Summer Breeze in the years to come. The good news: We have already managed to find a replacement.
"Family reunion at Summer Breeze: Freddy Cricien, half brother of Agnostic Front singer and hardcore legend Roger Miret, will appear in Dinkelsbühl with his brutal troop Madball. The New York hardcore stalwarts are bringing loads of stage action and the heaviest of hardcore, so all you divers and moshpit enthusiasts out there better get ready! In top form – only recently they headlined the successful Rebellion Tour 2013 – Cricien and company will (hopefully!) deliver a selection of their discography's best songs. Although Madball always kill, no matter what they play! D'accord?!
"People like to call them avantgarde black metal, but the Mainz band isn't really comfortable with that label. Whatever you want to call them though, fact is Nocte Abdcuta will present their brand new album 'Umbriel (Das Schweigen zwischen den Sternen)' live at Summer Breeze 2013. All disciples of gloom can look forward to an uncompromising experimental show with a dense armosphere and a whole load of melancholy, but (hopefully) also an excursion into the German's brutal past. However, no matter which songs get played, no one will crawl back into their tents disappointed after the Nocte Abducta show in Dinkelsbühl."
Corrections House describes itself as "experimental/spoken word/acoustic + end times collaboration" and is the new collective featuring Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium) and Bruce Lamont (Yakuza). The group today confirms a string a rare live shows.
The 19-date trek will commence on January 21st, 2013 in Brooklyn, New York and wind its way through much of the of the East Coast before concluding in Denver, Colorado.
Special solo sets by Parker, Lamont, Kelly and Williams will be performed prior to closing each night as Correctiosn House. Dates are available below. More...

- And their jewel: The open air stage on the pool deck. The biggest festival stage to sail the Oceans.
"You can also get all your memorabilia signed at the Meet & Greet sessions. Be part of their infamous Metal Karaoke and many other special activities with the Artists. And last, but not least: Don't forget that they have bars on board that never close! What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done."

"A full U.S. tour WILL be happening sometime between January and April, 2013. Sorry to any of you hoping to catch us on this run. We will be doing a thorough US tour early in 2013, so look for us coming to your city soon...And anyone out in the areas we're playing in a week or so, we look forward to seeing you at the shows!"

The Chicago-based black metal outfit Nachtmystium has released 6th full-length album, "Silencing Machine," today in North America.
To give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Silencing Machine, Nachtmystium has now launched the fourth of five in-studio videos featuring exclusive footage and interviews with the band. Part 4 spotlights synths/electronics specialist and producer Sanford Parker, and it can be viewed below.
The Chicago-based black metal outfit Nachtmystium is gearing up to release "Silencing Machine" next week on July 30th in Europe and July 31st in North America. Over the past few years, the group has been heralded for a unique brand of psychedelic, Pink Floydian black metal. But as a band that's always on the move, Nachtmystium is ready to bring this new effort back to the more traditional black metal sound found on break-through album, "Instinct: Decay" (2006).
Recorded at Engine Studios with the band's own synths/electronics specialist Sanford Parker (YOB, PELICAN) handling producer duties, Silencing Machine is, as front-man/lead guitarist Blake Judd puts it, "A fuckin' black metal record."
