Vikings Set Sail For North American Paganfest
To begin with, Korpiklaani was not present for this leg of the Paganfest tour, and it’s nothing short of a tragedy that North Americans had to miss out on the Forest Clan for this event.
Eluveitie was also not in attendance, supposedly because they didn’t file the proper paperwork with the Canadian customs in a timely fashion, so Gwynbleidd was on hand to fill in as an opener at the Medley in Montreal, Quebec. These New Yorkers weren’t quite as folksy as their Scandinavian counterparts, yet they offered a melancholic, progressive metal – slow, dark material, somewhat similar to High On Fire, and they set the stage quite nicely for Tyr.
Tyr looked the same as ever, long-haired and bare-chested, and they treated the crowd to a song from their newest album, “Land”. Fans were pleased to see “Hail to the Hammer” and the Faroese “Ramund Hin Unge” get some play, as well as “Wings of Time”. Unfortunately, their set was cut mercilessly short after a few songs, and they were replaced by Turisas. It is safe to say, even among the crazy Ensiferum fans, that Turisas stole the show that night. They swept up the crowd into the palm of their head and collectively placed it in their pocket. More...
Korpiklaani Speaks On The Paganfest Tour
Korpiklaani have posted the following message via their official website:
"After this great Paganfest tour we like to thank all fans who filled the venues with their enthusiasm. It was heartwarming to see how many of you showed up to see us all!
This tour was a great enjoyment for us, being together with all these cool friends from all these brilliant bands was an absolute highlight. We had a great time and lot of fun together. So thanks to all bands, also the local supporting bands, technicians, organization and of course to you... the audience!
We wish the other Paganfest bands very happy touring in the USA!" More...

Tyr Confirms New Release Date For Album
Tyr has confirmed the new release dates of their upcoming album, "Land," which also will be available as a digipak that includes a bonus DVD, "Live At Wacken." The release will drop on the following dates:
May 28 – FIN
May 30 – GAS, Benelux, FRA, ITA, SWE
June 02 – EU
June 10 – USA / CAN
"A distinctive trademark that sets TÝR appart from most other bands of the "Viking Metal" genre is the autheticism of their music: "Traditional music dating back to the Vikings, that is not preserved anywhere else in the world, not even in Iceland, is passed on in an oral tradition here and it is still alive and well. That is what we build our music on and draw great inspiration from" explains Heri Joensen, singer and guitarist of TYR
Almost every song on "Land" is based on Faroese or Norwegian lore, and is revetted in the garb of the Folk Metal genre. Its approach unmistakenly creates a very true Viking Metal.
Traditional Faroese lyrics mark tracks such as "Gátu Ríma", "Fípan Fagra" and "Lokka Táttur", and "Gandkvæði Tróndar", which is a poem by J.H.O. Djurhuus about the Faroese chieftain Tróndur, who fought against the dying of the old beliefs and for the independence of the Faroes. "Sinklars Vísa" is a Norwegian traditional song based on the true story of Scottish mercenaries killed when trying to disturbe the peace in Norway.
While most lyrics contain traditional stories about the Norse pantheon and the Viking age, some topics are more earthbound: "Ocean" explores the reasons why Scandinavians sailed westwards to the Faroes, a question that to this day remains unanswered by historians and archeologists alike. And "Valkyrjan" tackles the unheroic side of war, reflecting on the feelings of futility men face on the battlefield.
Musically "Land" guards the essence of that most sacred to TÝR: Heroic Viking Metal, highly influenced by Scandinavian traditionals and combined with contemporary metal.
Land hits the streets on 30 May and will be available as regular jewel case edition and a limited edition deluxe digipack including a bonus DVD of the very memorable gig at Wacken Open Air.
