H.I.M., Papa Roach Team Up For Fall Tour

MTV.com reports that Finnish goth rockers (and Bam Margera's favorite band) H.I.M. will be joining forces this fall with Northern Californian alt-metal group Papa Roach for an 11-date road trip that's set to launch October 18 in Lowell, Massachusetts, with dates scheduled through October 31 in Universal City, California. The bill for the North American No Sleep Till Halloween Tour will also feature English metallers the Lostprophets and Chicago rock collective Kill Hannah.

H.I.M., who last toured the U.S. this spring, continue to spread the word about 2005's Dark Light, the band's first proper U.S. release. The LP, released last September, has sold close to 458,000 copies, and debuted at #18 on Billboard's albums chart.

The tour will also serve as a promotional vehicle for the band's forthcoming, still-untitled DVD, which is slated for November release. The DVD, which will boast a bonus CD, follows H.I.M. through haunted castles in Scotland and is chock full of never-before-seen live footage and rare on-camera interviews. More...

Wicked Wisdom Fills Final Slot For Ozzfest 2005

Chris Harris of MTV.com has issued the following report:

In one of the most unusual summer-tour pairings in recent memory, the Ozzfest Web site announced Monday night that there will be one final act added to this year's second-stage lineup: actress Jada Pinkett Smith's rock group, WICKED WISDOM.

The addition of the Christian-leaning rock-and-soul hybrid to a summer touring package that boasts ferocious metal merchants like BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, SHADOWS FALL, MUDVAYNE, IN FLAMES and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER is unexpected, to say the least.

WICKED WISDOM is an EVANESCENSE-esque act that Pinkett Smith, the band's frontperson and the wife of actor/rapper Will Smith, has said is influenced by ANI DIFRANCO, PRINCE, TORI AMOS and SEVENDUST. The group also includes a guy named Pocket on guitar, another fellow named Rio on bass, keyboardist Cameron Graves and drummer Satnam Ramgotra. This summer's Ozzfest stint will mark WICKED WISDOM's first North American tour: The group primarily performs club gigs in and around Los Angeles, although it has opened for PAPA ROACH and was the support act for BRITNEY SPEARS' 2004 European tour.

Papa Roach Can Be Lumped With Anybody Or Anything

Asked if he minds being classified with other nu-rap-rock-power-metal bands, Tobin Esperance of Papa Roach groaned to Newt Briggs of the Las Vegas Mercury: "Just don't lump us in with Linkin Park." After a few seconds, he added, "Whatever, dude. You can lump us in with anybody or anything. We've done it all, man. We've done rock, rap, metal, Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Anger Management--all that sh**. Not a lot of other bands can say that."

More Papa Roach Tour Dates Announced

Papa Roach are making like their namesake, infesting the Billboard rock charts with the title track from their fourth album, "Getting Away With Murder." So what's next for the California quartet? They're about to release a new single and hit the road on a U.S. tour.

In a move that might surprise some of their diehard fans, the Roaches are readying the power ballad "Scars" as their second single. It's a big, sweeping mixture of guitars and honesty, as Jerry Horton crunches out chords and frontman Jacoby Shaddix sings about his struggles with sobriety.

"Some of our fans hear that song and say, 'I had to give it a few listens, dude. But I love it,' " Shaddix said. "It's a P-Roach anthem. It has heart. It's just undeniable. It stems from a good night in Vegas turned bad. I ended up in the hospital with 11 staples in my head, self-mutilation. It was just a really bad night. It's about trying to help someone who really doesn't want you to help them.

Nu-Metal Rockers Past Their Best Days?

USA Today music writer Ken Barnes took part in an online chat with readers on Tuesday, where he was asked about the state of nu-metal, with the questioner suggesting Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Marilyn Manson, and Korn are still going strong. "I don't know, they all seem to be past their best days to me," Barnes countered. "Linkin Park still does well on radio and in record stores, but their tour this summer wasn't exactly a sensation. Papa Roach and Marilyn Manson seem to belong more to yesterday, and Korn, if they're lucky, may hang on to attain some sort of elder-statesman status as the Metallica of nu-metal. But I think it's more likely that they'll fade, too."
