Background
Shaaman was formed in 2000 following the departure of 3 members from well-known brazilian power/prog metal act Angra. Singer Andre Matos, bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori set out to form a new band, more akin to their new musical inspirations. Guitarist Hugo Mariutti was initially recruited for helping with song-writing duties, before eventually becoming a full-time member.
Combining powerful melodies, traditional metal and progressive elements, Shaaman has released 2 albums + a live album to date.

Former Angra Vocalist Passes Away
Brazilian power metal veterans Angra has confirmed reports that original vocalist André Matos has passed away at the age of 47. A statement from the band (loosely translated) reads as follows:
"Dear fans and friends: in respect of the passing of the co-founder of angra, Andre Matos, we decided to cancel today's It wouldn't make sense to go on stage to play while we cry for the loss of our journey companion, whom we owe much of our Andre's legacy is confused with angra's, and so we're going to go up to the stage of temple music today, but only to honor him and remember his importance in the history of each of us, who lives the heavy metal Daily. On this day, our instruments are quiet in mourning.

Matos formed Angra in 1991 while attending Santa Marcelina Music College with guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and André Linhares. Two years later, the band released their first album, "Angels Cry" and with Matos on vocals, the band then released "Holy Land" in 1996 and "Fireworks" in 1998, before Matos, along with bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori, left in 2001.
The trio would form the band Shaman, who would change their name to Shaaman due to legal issues after their first album but received commercial success owing to the song, "Fairy Tale" featuring in the soap opera "Beijo do Vampiro" ("Vampire Kiss.") Matos then went on to launch a solo career, which at one time featured future Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande and released three studio album, "Time To Be Free" in 2007, "Mentalize" in 2009 and "The Turn Of The Lights" in 2012. Henceforth In Pre-Production For Second Album
Brazilian progressive metal band HENCEFORTH, which features former SHAAMAN members Hugo (guitar) and Luis Mariutti (bass; also ex-ANGRA and presently a member of ex-SHAAMAN/ANGRA singer André Matos' backing band), is currently in pre-production for its second album. The follow-up to the group's self-titled debut is expected to be released sometime in 2008.
Issued in 2005, "Henceforth" is available in the U.S. for the first time via the Melodic Revolution web site. The CD features a guest appearance by Matos in the track "I.Q.U.".

Shaman Announce New Album Title
SHAMAN (formerly SHAAMAN), the revamped Brazilian band featuring drummer Ricardo Confessori alongside guitarist Leo Mancini, vocalist Thiago Bianchi and bassist Fernando Quesada, has set "Immortal" as the title of its new album, due later in the year. A song from the upcoming CD, entitled "One Life", can be streamed at this location.
SHAAMAN (as the band was known prior to its split) released its sophomore album, "Reason", in May 2005 via AFM Records. The 10-song follow-up to 2002's "Ritual" was mixed and mastered at Heaven's Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth, who previously worked with such acts as KAMELOT, EDGUY, RHAPSODY and FREEDOM CALL. A DVD, entitled "RituAlive", came out in 2003.
Former SHAAMAN frontman André Matos (also ex-ANGRA) will release his debut solo album later in the year.
