Double Dragon Reveals New Album Title

Adelaide’s Double Dragon has announced details of their second full length album, "The Sons of Asena," due out sometime in 2011. Also announced was the bands recruitment of two new members – bass guitarist Josh Lamort (A Red Dawn), and drummer Liam Weedall (Asphyxia, Sonic Euphoria). Guitarist Matthew "Roady" Johnston commented"

"We’re extremely excited to get back out there with the new boys and show everyone exactly what we’ve been up to for the past couple of months. Josh has been a long time friend of the band, has filled in for us several times in the past, and we couldn’t be happier to finally have him on board as a full time member. As for Liam, he’s only 19 years old, but don’t let that fool you – he’s a phenomonal musician who’s blowing everyone that sees him play away, especially us!"

The plans to enter Adelaide’s Against The Grain studios in November/December this year to record the follow up to their 2008 debut album, "Devastator." "The Sons of Asena" will feature ten tracks. Vocalist Lee Gardiner had this to say about the new album:

"We have let our collective imaginations run wild for this album. No stone has been left unturned with these songs, and this is perhaps the most exciting part – for the first time we’ve had the balls to follow our instincts and follow them through. Whether it be with the hiring of our new members, the newfound ambition we feel, or the strength of the songs themselves. As a creative person, it’s a very exciting time to be in this band."

Following the completion of the new album, the band (currently unsigned) will be looking for a release both in Australia and worldwide, with international touring also on the horizon for 2011.

Double Dragon Plays Xmas Show Unplugged

Adelaide’s Double Dragon is set to unplug this weekend, thanks to circumstances leaving only two band members available to play their previously announced show. The band commented:

"We were booked in to play a xmas show at the Cavan Hotel this Saturday, but due to unforeseen circumstances, Roady cant make the show, but as ‘they say’ … the show must go on, and seeing its Christmas and all, Davin and Lee have decided they will play the show as a 2 piece, one microphone and an acoustic guitar and re-work Double Dragon songs and perform some of their favourite songs that have influenced the band over the years. Davin and Lee have been working hard all week, practicing every night to make sure that this will be a ‘Double Dragon’ show that you will not forget.”

"The show is on the 12/12/2009 @ The Cavan Hotel, Cavan, outside in the beer garden. There is lots of metal on before hand, The Scars, Splattergasm, Officer Down + more…

“In no particular order the songs they will be playing are:

"Breathing Fire
Space They Cannot Touch ( KATE MILLER HEIDKE )
Prelude For The Damned
My Kantele ( AMORPHIS )
Black Sails Of Armageddon
Suicide Note Part 1 ( PANTERA – RIP BROTHER DIME! )
Dead But Still Killing
The Thunder Rolls ( GARTH BROOKES )
Down in a Hole ( ALICE IN CHAINS – RIP LAYNE! )
The Brother Slayer ( AMORPHIS )

"Double Dragon apologize for the fact we are not playing a set, but lets face it Adelaide has plenty of opportunity to see us most months, and we promise that Lee and Davin willl deliver the goods and give you a memorable show."

Double Dragon Comments On Slayer, Megadeth Tour

Australia’s Double Dragon have recently completed their supporting tour with Slayer and Megadeth. The band supported the metal titans in all states of Australia.

Vocalist Lee Gardiner comments: “Wow, what a crazy week, supporting 50% of the big four of Thrash metal was a dream come true to say the least. From the first show in Brisbane, to the final show in Perth on Tuesday, we had a glimpse of the machines that are Megadeth and Slayer, and what machines they are! Playing before Megadeth and Slayer was a task in its self, I know myself that if I had bought tickets I would be excited enough to unleash hell on the unsuspecting support bands, but we had fantastic reactions and support from the crowds in every city, and I would really like to thank the Australian metal public for showing their respects and heading down to the fence to bang out for us.

“The whole tour was filled with so any life long memories, watching Slayer thrash out new tracks on sound checks, Megadeth’s complete and utter professionalism and flawless performances, singing 'Hate World Wide' with Slayer in Melbourne when Tom’s voice went, watching my friend Paul Haug (Contrive) sing Dead Skin Mask perfectly in Melbourne – even throwing in the ..'the next song is about a man called Ed…' too the crowds adoration, to meeting Dave Mustaine and seeing how he goes out of his way for his fans in every city with their meet and greets etc, the whole thing personally was a celebration of metal and its supporters, and on behalf of Double Dragon we cant thank Megadeth, Slayer and the promoters enough for the experience of a lifetime.”

Following the release of their debut album, "Devastator," in Australia, the band is now hard at work recording their second album before they had out on the road again with Chimaira in 2010 for an Australian tour.

On the new material Lee states “We have definitely changed alot in our five years, even since our release of our debut album , and this time around we are really just wanting to write the best metal we can – we are not going to say its heavier than DEVASTATOR and all the usual pre-album cliché’s, but it will be more mature and more musical, obviously because we all get better at our instruments the longer we play! We also are seeking a home for our material outside of Australia, as we are now yearning to play some shows in Europe, USA and Japan, so if your that guy/girl lets talk, we are ready and waiting”

With the band currently unsigned, Double Dragon will be spending the next 6 months recording and seeking a suitable home for their new album, which promises to be “More metal than a robot’s cock, Aussie style!”

Adelaide’s Double Dragon have been confirmed as the opening band on the upcoming Slayer/Megadeth Australian Tour in October.

With a new album in the works, we really couldn’t be happier right now!”

Following the tour, the band will be hitting the studio to record the follup up to their debut album, "Devastator," released in Australia in 2008 through Truth Inc Records. Vocalist Lee Gardiner issues the following statement about their new guitarist and material:

"After touring with some of our direct influences this year, getting to know them as people, their influences, and having some of our favorite musicians getting to know our music and offer advice regarding the development of our sound AND with our new guitarist Davin bringing another dimension to the song writing process, it naturally brought a general excitement back into the band that has MADE us want to write, MADE us want to record immediately as we feel we are now armed with so many more 'weapons' so to speak in our song writing arsenal. After touring with The Haunted and witnessing how down to earth they are as people, how much integrity they bring too the stage night after night really lifted the band spirits." More...
