Latest Kataklysm News
Below is our complete Kataklysm news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Canadian death metallers Kataklysm have cancelled their participation in the X-Mass Festivals 2005 European tour this December. In an official press release, the band blame the cancellation on "the simple reason that the new album will not be ready in time to coincide with" the trek and "it made no sense" to do the tour. Instead, Kataklysm have confirmed that they will take part in the No Mercy Festivals 2006, to be followed by a series of dates across Europe.
With regards to the new album, Kataklysm bassist Stephane Barbe writes:
The writing process is going very well and according to plan. All the focus, the ideas, the passion and the drive are there, and that's what makes good albums, in my opinion. Expect nothing but hard work and dedication with the new one. Our fans deserve the best from us.
Kataklysm will be in pre-production mode for most of the summer and plan to begin recording in late July/August/September at an as-yet-undetermined location with producer/guitarist J-F Dagenais. The band's new album, entitled "In the Arms of Devastation," has a tentative release date of February 2006.
Kataklysm has won "Best metal group" at the Canadian Indie Music Awards. The band wishes to thank all the fans who voted for them.
Kataklysm will not be able to attend the event in Toronto at the Phoenix Theater to receive the award, as the band is currently on tour with Danzig.
Singer Maurizio Iacono offers the following tour update:
We are presently half way done with the tour and its been absolutly great. We didnt know what to expect coming into this tour as an extreme act, but so far i can truly say its the most important tour we've done in the states and its been packed every night. Response has been amazing with violent pits every night, we've been treated with nothing but respect by Danzig and there crew were having loads of fun and exposing Death Metal to a new audience and making lots of new fans. Cool to be part of the Danzig /Doyle 30 min Misfits reunion shows in Boston/NYC and Philly it was historic and the Crown went apeshit. We hope things keep going like they are and we will see you all soon ..

Canadian hyper blasters Kataklysm shot a new video for their "Serenity In Fire" track "The Resurrected." The filming took place in Los Angeles on November 6th with director Joe Lynch. In other news, the guys continue working on their upcoming DVD, "The Test Of Time," which shall be released in late 2005. The DVD will include live and behind the scenes footage of the "No More Serenity" tour as well videos, interviews and a "making of" of their next studio album. They are currently on tour with Napalm Death and Cannibal Corpse.
Cannibal Corpse lead singer George "Corpsegrinder" Fischer was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday (Nov. 16) causing him to miss the group's scheduled performance at The World in Pittsburgh last night. The band, who are currently touring North America with Napalm Death, Macabre, Kataklysm and Goatwhore, did not give specifics as to what Fischer's illness was, but a member of the Cannibal Corpse road crew announced to the crowd that Fischer was "extremely sick and has spent the day in the hospital." The band proceeded to play an instrumental set and were eventually joined by Kataklysm frontman Maurizo Iacono, who valiantly handled many Cannibal Corpse classics with the aid of the crowd.
MACABRE and KATAKLYSM have scheduled some off-dates together between their tour with CANNIBAL CORPSE, NAPALM DEATH and GOATWHORE. The Dates are:

Birmingham's fathers of grindcore, Napalm Death, kickoff their 36-date North American tour tonight with their headlining show in Toronto, Canada. The first eight dates the band performs with Misery Index, and the remaining dates take the band across the U.S. with Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm, and Goatwhore.
Always outspoken about politics, Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway had this to say about the elections:
If Bush gets voted in for another term, people really need to take a long, hard look at themselves. With Bush back in power, there'll be more unjustified military intervention, more shitty healthcare provisions for the poor, a country mired further in religious dogma etc. Not to mention seeing more of Jeb Bush's fat head on TV. On the other hand, the Democrats don't offer a real alternative. They're very close to the Republicans on a few issues, which is disappointing. I noted how some of the anti-war advocates in the Democratic Party were silenced quite early on. The crazy thing is that voting for the Green Party guy Ralph Nader is considered a pointless exercise, where as he is one of the only people to offer radical thinking. Based purely on his thoughts, I would probably go for Nader if I was an American.
That said, I think the whole system needs an overhaul. That whole 'vote-rig' thing by the Republicans in Florida last time was such a farce, people outside of the U.S. just could not believe that Americans would let something like that pass. I find it really amusing that the Republicans cast themselves as pillars of honesty when everything they do is steeped in corruption and self-interest. Similarly, I lived through Thatcher's ruthless conservatism in Britain, and I would not want to go through it again.
Napalm Death released their Century Media debut, "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2" on October 5.
The band's full North American tour itinerary: More...
Canadian death metal titans Kataklysm will be shooting a new video for the track "The Resurrected," taken from their latest album, "Serenity In Fire." The clip will be filmed at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles on November 6 with director Joe Lynch. The video will have a conceptual theme.
Vader have been forced to cancel the upcoming North American tour with Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Goatwhore, and Kataklysm due to an injury suffered by vocalist/guitarist, Peter Wiwczarek, while on tour. The band's manager Mariusz Kmioek has released this official statement:
We are sorry to inform everyone that during Scandinavian tour (October 2004) Peter has suffered from a minor spinal injury (vertebra-related) and will have to undergo a procedure to set things right (1 week at hospital and 2 weeks of rehabilitation). The only possible date to enter the hospital and fix it is in October, so we have decided on not going on our US tour! Our first idea was to schedule the procedure at hospital next year, but it would be big risk for Peter's health.
We'd like to apologize all people - Metal Blade USA, First Row Agency, Cannibal Corpse and their booking agency, Napalm Death and all maniacs - we are very sorry and we'd like to thank everyone for all their hard work in booking and arranging this tour! It's the first cancelled tour in our long (18 years) activity, and it's really a shock for us!
Let's keep our fingers crossed everything will turn out OK.
Canadian death metallers KATAKLYSM have finalized their European and North American tour itineraries. Confirmed dates are as follows:
"No More Serenity" European Tour 2004 w/ Graveworm, Mystic Circle, Into Eternity: More...

Kataklysm is in dispute at the moment with ex-Hypnotic honcho Tom Treumuth and Linus Ent./Warner Music Canada regarding the re-release of the 1998 album "Victims of this Fallen World," previously released on Canada's Hypnotic label.
The problem is that the album was out of print because of the defunct Hypnotic label and Kataklysm has fullfilled its contractual commitment. As a result, Kataklysm have been working the past month at completely re-recording "Victims of this Fallen World" and have made a new agreement with long time friend of the band Stephan Mellul and Skyscraper Music/Fusion 3 for a Canadian re-release and through Crash music for the United States.
Former Hypnotic owner Tom Treumuth has licensed both the "Victims of this Fallen World" and "Northern Hyperblast Live" albums to Linus Entertainment/Warner Music Canada for a September release, without rights nor the band's consent!! This is a total rip off situation and we cannot believe Warner Music is letting this happen without even Linus Ent. having documentation allowing them to release these albums. DO NOT BUY these albums, they do not have our permission and they are stealing your money and ours!!
Comments Maurizio on the "Victims..." re-release:
J-F has been working for the last 3 weeks with Stephane and former drummer Max Duhamel on the re-recording of "Victims of this Fallen World." The album has been completely revamped from A to Z , basicaly given a facelift with new guitar and bass sounds, and drums completely re-recorded by original drummer Max Duhamel... Only things left are vocals, scheduled for next week, new mix/mastering and new artwork will be finalised as well... We decided to do this because we feel that this album was a turning point for Kataklysm and the band has evolved so much since. We tought it would be fun to see how it would turn out by re-recording it with today's vision as musicians and with J-F's top notch producing skills behind it - and maybe give it some justice for what it was... And let me tell you that the results are astonishing! You'll be surprised how big it sounds already and I can't wait to lay some sick vocals on it next week. So please BOYCOTT that Linus Entertainment and Warner Music re-release, this is just about someone desperately trying to make a few extra bucks at our expense. Distro and labels - do not order it, just wait for October for this new edition re-release. It will be worth it and I'm glad I listened to J-F about doing this.
