Blackguard vocalist Paul Ablaze has checked in with the following Summer Slaughter Tour recap and new album update:
"Hey everyone! Paul Ablaze here. I'm very sorry for the lack of updates, these things slip my mind sometimes . But here it is finally (better late than never i suppose) a little something to let you all know what's gone down and what's in the works!
"Summer Slaughter Re-cap (i started writing this a while ago)
"This years summer slaughter has come and gone. Beers were drunk, blood was shed, vomit covered jeans, didn't see anyone cry but who knows? Point is no one came out the other end of this beast unchanged in some way, and we are without a doubt stronger than we've ever been as a band because of it.
This being only our second full north american tour we had everything to prove to both the fans and our peers, and i believe we won the respect of both along the way. I had said early on in the tour how amazed i was on how social everyone was and how much we as a tour came together and pulled for one another. I truly believe that the only reason this tour finished when it was suppose to and not 4 weeks earlier was because of the strength in character everyone displayed and how devoid everyone was of any kind of "ego" or "rock star" mentality.
"There are certain memories that surly stick out amongst the never ending (sometimes fuzzy) memories of good times that happened over the past month and a half. a few note worthy ones include: More...
Canadian extreme metal outfit Kataklsym will perform a series of shows in the provinces of Ontario, Québec and New Brunswick this Fall with Blackguard and Unfallen. Although Kataklysm plans a Canadian tour next year, which will cover the other provinces as well as the cities that were skipped this year, this will be the only opportunity to see the band live in these territories.
Front man Maurizio Iacono comments:
"The touring campaign for Prevail is slowly winding down and we have a few more things lined up, like a two part Canadian tour! One which will start in October doing secondaries in Quebec and heading out in eastern Canada as well. Next year in the spring we plan on doing a full scale Canadian tour which we haven't gone out west once for Prevail so we don't want to forget any of our fans.
"We also have a headliner stint for KATAKLYSM in Europe for January 2010 planned which will be the final tours for the Prevail album. In the meanwhile we are getting ready to hit the road with our other band called EX DEO, its our EPIC nemesis band based on Ancient Rome. It's been receiving rave reviews around the globe. The impact has been very strong so now were gonna bring the beast out live for the fall. After some rehearsals and video taping this week, I can say that EX DEO will surely turn some heads...or cut them right off! Heeheh"

"Well we have arrived in Frankfurt, Germany yesterday for our European tour and checked in at our hotel. We met up with the guys in DEATH ANGEL at the bar in the lobby and hit it off quick with the guys. We have a common love of the glam rock and heavy metal so I think this will be a very cool tour indeed for the next few weeks with some cool parties.
"KEEP OF KALESSIN are good friends of ours and it’s always a blast touring with them. We are currently on our way to Hellfest and then Spain and Portugal. We’ve never played any of the Open Airs we will do on this run and we are looking forward to it. More...

The last thing on the agenda regarding KATAKLYSM will be a full European headliner in January 2010 to wrap things up until the next album.
"So after these tours are done our focus will immediately change to our new band EX DEO, which will be released by Nuclear Blast Records in June. The hype behind ‘Romulus’ is gaining massive momentum and this is such a big project! We need get things ready with the live aspect of things and to rehearse and be prepared for Paganfest Europe. Having said that we decided to decline all tour offers coming for KATAKLYSM for the rest of the year. We might also bring this epic band to the States but were not sure yet, since it has to be the right tour.
"We’re going to announce some cool news regarding EX DEO next week. So if you want to watch KATAKLYSM in the states one last time before the next album drops (not before 2011), this would be the tour to come visit us and party like we usually do. A big thank you to the fans for making ‘Prevail’ a very succesfull album worldwide. Now I must gather my legions and take back the throne of metal! The scene needs a kick in the ass back to rebellion and Rome is coming!"

KATAKLYSM is kicking off their North American trek as direct support to England's grindcore legends Napalm Death on the upcoming "Campaign for Musical Destruction" tour, which kicked off on April 10.
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

EX DEO’s Maurizio Iacono checks in with the following update:
"I’m now back home after quite a long journey to Canada (to record the rest of my vocals for EX DEO) and Belgium with Kataklysm for some good beers and a good time (headlining the Maximum Metal & Hardcore Festival). It was killer! Meeting up with old friends is always fun times.
"From there I flew to Belgrade, Serbia where I filmed the video for the title track 'Romulus.' The set up was extremely pro. Stanimir 'Staca' Lukic and Ivan did such an amazing job and paid attention to every single detail. To recreate Rome and the story of Romulus and Remus was a big challenge, but I think we nailed it and the ideas behind it are incredible. Expect an epic feel, like the movie '300' for the texture... A big thank you to all the film crew and the actors!
"I’m also glad to say the album is complete! J-f, Steph , Max, Francois and Jo did a fantastic job. I can’t thank you enough for the dedication for a project so close to my heart (it’s a part of us all now!). The sound is in your face, huge and with so much feeling it will grab you instantly.
"This is some of the best material we have ever written as a band and a completely different outlook and feel then what we have done before. Expect anthem after anthem!"
Here is the tracklisting for "Romulus:" More...

KATAKLSYM frontman Maurizio Iacono is currently in the studio working with his new band, EX DEO, on their debut album titled Romulus. Iacono offered the following progress report on the recording process:
"Well the sun is shining today; I have completed the vocals for EX DEO's Debut album Romulus! I needed to capture the emotions of the songs that J-F Dagenais (KATAKLYSM) and company put together and I feel I succeeded. Jonathan Leduc from BLACKGUARD has done an incredible job on the symphony parts for this album! Songs like the ‘LEGIO XIII’ (the 13th Legion) are so epic you feel you’re literally in Rome on the battlegrounds! Francois Mongrain from MARTYR is almost done tracking the bass lines. I can’t say enough about this man’s talent on bass! We are now just waiting on a few special guests on the album to send in their contributions and we will be ready to mix this beast of an album!
"In the meantime, we will take a few days off as we are heading to Belgium for an exclusive show with KATAKLYSM. Right after that I will go to Belgrade to film the video for the title track "Romulus." The idea of the clip is to recreate the story of Romulus and the Epic times of ancient Rome. We promise a breath taking video! Next week I’ll have another blog with pics from the video shoot!"
